Tonight is the media preview event!

I also saw they've invited several 'celebrities' tonight too (in the daily mail sense) I.e. people from love island, ex on the beach, x factor, Ibiza weekender lol. Enjoy!

That queue times website put the queues at 135 minutes for the mazes a few minutes back, I'm guessing its wrong haha, its now just saying closed. P15 is missing too.

    https://queue-times.com/parks/2/queue_times

  2. Each to their own, but I am a huge Halloween fan! Always used to do trick or treating growing up, and an excuse to watch loads of Halloween/horror themed movies. Went to Thorpe park fright night when I was 14 back in 2006 and I loved it! Also going to tulleys shocktober park, and anything else that's on I can squeeze in haha. Usually go to a fancy dress party the Saturday before too, this year is no exception :D when else can you go to a bar dressed as a zombie eh.

A friend at work is from new Zealand and she says they don't celebrate it there at all, so she's excited to come to Tulleys :D. Personally this is one American import I'm happy with!

Its just a matter of taste really, some people are into sport like going to football, or Christmas, I'm into Halloween...haha.

  3. Thanks that's good to know, you don't get any discount booking all 5 either they are still £6 each so maybe we'll just book a couple to save time and get it all done. Not sure what to expect for queue times exactly (first Saturday), maybe around an hour per maze, 1.5 for big top/P15? Hmm! I remember BWP was nearly 2 hours my last trip which is why we didn't bother...

Let us know if you experience this 'wet' aspect in P15 haha.

  4. haha  early reviews/thoughts I've read from I think Thorpe park central on facebook say they were impressed with the big top and P15 :) though there was mention of a 'wet surprise' on P15 which worries me slightly....

Sorry for asking again but does anyone know if you can buy single maze fast track, I'm guessing not and its 5 mazes for £30 only? Also does maze fast track typically sell out this early into the fright night season? Was going to buy it on the day (this Saturday) depending on queues.

I wanted to know what to prioritise too for when I go on Sunday, so I asked my mates older sister who works at the park and did all the mazes apart from platform 15 on the staff night/evening. She said Big top was amazing and was easily her favourite, she also said saw was particularly intense, she said she wasn't impressed at all with cabin and there was no actors in the final room, she said Blair which was surprisingly scary and the actors were very hands on, she also said that her friend who also worked there did 2 runs on platform 1 just before sunset and 1 at night and she definitely reccomended you try both as somehow they were different? I don't know how though. Basically overall this is how I am prioritising based on what she told me:

    1-big top

    2-platform (night)

    3-saw

    4-Blair witch

    5-cabin

    6-platform (day)

good to know! if I get big top and platform (night) done at a minimum, I will be happy. I got some great scares in cabin last time, but the two newer ones (to me) are a priority. Unfortunately my friend says he won't go in saw as he found it too loud and uncomfortable, lets hope he prefers the other mazes.....haha. Otherwise if anyone's going Saturday and would like a maze buddy let me know

theming looks cool if that's legit!

The dude looks like the guy you see at the pub on his own cos he's so ALTERNATIVE...

Thorpe says he is 'the man behind their latest maze' platform 15 according to their facebook page's latest video. The actors are 'his' zombies. lol....just why is this necessary Thorpe!!! -_-

The good news is that this maze is their 'longest to date', but I suppose we kinda already knew that.

Yesterday night there were dress rehearsals for Cabin and Big Top put on for some of the staff! Have heard plenty positive things about the two, especially Big Top.

this makes me happy! hopefully any issues will be ironed out in time. Its so close now! Friday/press evening attendees please do post your opinions :) I'd love to know what you guys thought before I head in on Saturday, so if the queues are all bad I can decide what I should prioritise, and whether its worth doing platform 15 before dark, sounds like it isn't. Although I've been in Saw several times people keep saying it has improved over time so currently blair witch is at the bottom of the priorities list for me.

  8. Yeah I understand its dark so you don't need to spend ages on it, but I do recall looking at actor's faces and many did not look particularly scary or remotely realistic lol. I also get its uncomfortable I've worn it myself for long periods of time, but I'm just fussy so its what I'd like to see! Not saying they did a bad job but its how I'd improve it personally as its something I noticed...

  9. First weekend gets experiment 10 roamers, not bad. I'm hoping the mazes are good as this will be my friends' first time in a horror maze.

I must be in the minority in that I don't find clowns that scary tbh so I doubt I'm going to be scared in the big top but you never know! if its just largeish areas with clowns running around with chainsaws that sounds more amusing than scary. Zombies on the other hand creep me out, here's hoping they don't do that skeleton face paint on them though like in the video above, its something I could put together in a couple of minutes! Having said that, the black circle contact lenses were a nice touch.

  10.

video made by yahoo showing the train (especially around 10min 30 mark ish) and actors doing their thing. I wonder if they'll go for that makeup in the maze. Still the acting was good I thought although the first girl just sounded like she needed a strepsil...

I would've thought all 8 should be do-able but yes would definitely leave Hellements out of the lot - I'd perhaps stay away from Hayride until later in the evening, so stick to the area that has Chop Shop, The Cellar, Pandemonium and Colony, and do Colony last from those 4 as you end up in the bottom area of the "park" then when you exit it :) (it is HUGE). Couple more photos on my Facebook from the evening - you'll have a blast!

thanks for the advice! Will do that. In a group of about 10, with most of those new to mazes, so I think they could want to start small (creepy cottage?) but we'll see! Hopefully we'll fit everything in :) Are many of the mazes conga line, or only a few?

  12. Great review MattyMoo! I'm going on the 14th and am super excited :D

I have no idea how busy it will be on that date, and I wanted to ideally get on all of the haunts (with Hellements being at the bottom of the list), any others you think should have less priority? Any recommendations on the order to do them so that we can do as many of them as possible? We won't be getting there til about 7 (opens at 6.30) and can stay til the end. Thanks!

To be honest, for me personally I find it quite difficult judging the time of certain queues - I remember once queuing for Swarm and thinking "Oh it isn't too bad" and joined the queue - didn't realise that they had the flaming extended queue open which was a pain in the butt.

When I went on DBGT the second and third time the queue board did look fairly accurate but after having our pic taken and bothering the person in the shop the time just flew (and we were definitely on the ride before the stated time).  The queue does wind around a lot but you can see a lot of it standing outside.  What I did on my first go was asked the people outside when it was opening - they said they didn't know so I had a gander in the shop and asked them and they said midday so my friend and I just hung around the entrance to it from about 11.30 - and once it opened the queue was pretty big so its worth just waiting about a bit.

The bag drop was shut when I last went - thought it a bit odd at first but as long as you don't have anything bulky it doesn't really matter.  Yeah Saw does have a shop in the queue but I think ive only seen it open a couple of times.

Hope you have a great day - what I would do is have a look around DBGT to see if there is movement from staff, ask if they have a rough idea of opening (and then ask shop staff) then go to Saw and come back if you have time (which you probably will).

Argh I would hate to lose a phone on a ride although I don't take my current phone on, my tiny little old phone I used to always keep in my zip up jacket pocket - though to be fair if I lost it it was a piece of crud anyway.  I did lose a hairband on Colossus though - was a bit miffed - weird thing is I've worn hairbands/headbands (the things you use to keep yer fringe out of your eyes) on Stealth and its never come off.  Very odd!

Thanks for all the info :) defo want to make sure we do it but not queue for hours ideally so I'll do that! Not long to go then I can finally look in the spoilers thread haha

No, its obviously about Fright Nights..... why do fanboys always think everything is a clue about something

There are no monks, what you think are monks are actually actors in robes who are moving from one maze to another, hence why they do not stop to interact. They are wearing the robes so that guests do not interact with them while they move to the other maze

    Also, its Fright Nights, plural.

Edit- someone found a monk photo to which I was referring.

And it was a typo lol I'm sure we all make them

  15. 2 hours ago, Han30 said:

Yes there are 2 different VR parts and the bit in between you do walk a little bit (don't want to type too much).  Regarding queue time boards, I've only been on DBGT 3 times - first time we were first in, second and third time we queue for about 20 mins less than it stated - but obviously this varies as with every ride - queue boards can't be 100 per cent accurate.  Yes the queue is outside but lots of it under shelter, and you have 2 photo points (if they are open) which makes things a bit more interesting (if you're easily pleased like me!) - they have the obligatory shop where you can purchase a bottle of water for a mere £50 aswell .  I love listening the the music in the queue - the music is fantastic!

Oh lord - I remember going on Space Mountain back in 2000 and was wondering where to put my bag - was shocked I had to take it on and thought I'd lose it but I was squashed in so tight it wasn't going anywhere - still find it odd though - wonder how many people have lost bags/loose change/phones etc on that ride

yeah the queue boards can be a tad unreliable! Ooh first in good job, I think that will be my plan if it is working, head there first or saw! Yay photo points :D I love good themed music so that sounds great. Doesn't saw have a similar queue line shop, so ridiculous, they know people are bored/desperate so will end up buying something...

Reason I asked about the queue is that sometimes you can look at the queue and know how long it'll be (like for saw/stealth/the swarm/anything outside) so I didn't want to look and think the queue wasn't bad but then realise there was a huge bit round the corner/inside (which was what we did in Disneyland on crush's coaster, thought that was it then bam nowhere near the front haha).

Its dark in space mountain so I suppose you don't see stuff dropping down, but my friend lost her first ever phone on Colossus back when that opened haha and you could see it in the net thing

Will see if bag drop is working on derren brown when I go but sounds unnecessary.

  16. 3 hours ago, Benin said:

A bag room on a massive dark ride that you can actually take your bags onto (I.e. Not Sub Terra) is always a daft thing... It's a slightly unhealthy obsession of Merlin's to have bag drops on everything when it causes utter chaos by the exit (hey Swarm)...

although I am very grateful for bag drops, my friend's bag was stolen on Samurai on a fright night several years ago, which really puts me off rides without them (like slammer, samurai, rush, quantum). I end up with an oh so trendy bum bag I use under my coat when there isn't a bag drop.

But agree you shouldn't need one on a maze or a stationary/barely moving ride, or even a slow ride. I was actually shocked in Disneyland on space mountain when they told you to just hold onto it instead, people were on it clinging on to their backpacks haha. But slower than that I think there's no problem.

Back to Derren Brown, when people say there are 2 sequences of VR, do you take the headset off in-between? Is there any walking around involved? I've avoided spoilers as I'm going on it for the first time next week! Is the queue completely outside, and do you feel the queue times board is accurate in general or does it over/underestimate?

Sorry for a million questions, thanks!

The same rumor circulates every single year. Its not true.

such a shame, it does still have potential with a bit of a retheme lol!! just looks so tired now.

  18. I wonder if the roaming actors will do a lot of interaction with people or just walk through, I remember the monks and the you're next ones but sometimes there were too few actors to make an impact! The monks kinda just walked past everyone staring lol which was cool too.

So excited to go next week :D not long to wait now...

Does anyone know if detonator still does the creepy music during fright night, despite now being angry birds themed?

Agree - I actually quite like Colossus (this is quite controversial but I prefer it over Inferno) BUT in all honesty I can't see them getting new trains or getting a paint job - God knows how much that would cost and if they would even want to invest in it - I'd also like to see the medusa pit looking nice and clean again but its been skanky for years!   My most recent ride on Colossus was beyond painful but then I was near the back - usually I find it much better nearer the front. Would be so much better with lap bars - no head banging!

I actually can't choose between the two, I feel nemesis inferno would be great if it went on a bit longer, always feels too short! So for that reason I'd also go for Colossus.

I also don't think they'll do anything to spruce up Colossus because it gives it that weather beaten, old look. But adding a couple of new things like the fire effect in the swarm but theming it to the lost city would be cool, like a water feature or something! Usually its just a few rain puddles on the floor lol....
