Virtual Reality on Rides

A CF one of New Revolution is up now, and features the same "story" VR-wise...

Should be noted that the VR in this video, as well as the one above, is not the same as the rider's are seeing, hence why they're out of sync.  Still, the quality seems rather poor.  And, naturally, throughputs have been badly affected, and there's reports of anything up to 8 minutes between dispatches on Dare Devil Dive...

In other news, Bobbejaanland have been trialling their VR experience on Revolution:  http://www.looopings.nl/weblog/5184/Nieuwe-virtual-reality-achtbaan-Bobbejaanland-zorgt-voor-lange-wachttijden.html

The VR coaster experience seems to be called Mount Mara, so they seem to be quite big on splitting the two experiences apart.  But with an hour long queue (which for the park is huge), 10 minutes between being given the headset to returning it, reduced capacity (though not THAT big an issue on a 60-seater train...) and battery issues, it's still got all the usual concerns.

Considering I'm yet to experience VR in person, my contribution here may be obsolete.

VR sounds an interesting element, in how it's a more modern and sleek simulator device, where you can get transported to other worlds and beyond.

However it comes across as a cheap alternative to themed experience (less expense), comes across as gimmicky and has dropped throughputs too. Air/Galactica as a result now takes twice as long as it did.

Whilst Galactica I've heard is an improvement from Air, most seems to refer more to the increased thematic elements and ride indenting than the VR itself. In a few years alone, this concept could well be dated and even obsolete again, especially with the up keep needed.

Mark is right, once parks are over the gimmick (and they're more readily available for the mass market) people will be bored of it...

Especially when the waits are ridiculous... 8 minute dispatches for an Eurofighter? The parks will realise very soon that those sorta things will be detrimental to guests...

Mount Mara is now open proper and there's some of the VR footage here; it looks surprisingly alright (better than Six Flags' efforts):

Interesting to hear that the park's director seemingly thinks of it as a long term thing too.

Mack have released an app with 360° Onride videos of both Pegasus and Alpenexpress, as well as the VR content dispalyed on both

It says 'more coming soon' suggesting they are taking 360° videos on more of their coasters.  Could mean they want to add VR to more too, but who knows at this point

For iOS, the download is here - Coastiality by Mack Media GmbH

The Danes are getting a piece of the virtual action...

Dæmonen, the B&M floorless at Tivoli Gardens, is getting the VR treatment, with a Chinese theme - letting people get chased by loads of things from Chinese mythology.

The VR is being supplied by VR Coaster (which did Europa's VR stuff).  It's optional, and will cost about £2.90 to try.
