The Swarm backwards makes me feel more sick than Mr Monkey's Banana Boat (which turned my face green after 7 goes in a row). It's just a gimmick that they've tacked onto a perfectly good ride, hopefully they'll revert it back to normal in a couple of seasons.

Are you talking about the 8.3 update? As far as I'm aware that doesn't affect third party chargers. Quick google search just showed people complaining about the ios 7 update blocking 3rd party chargers, but I use them fine and I'm on 8.2 atm.
