  1. Half those delays aren't even delays though.

Epcot didn't have any? Soarin was ready but had to wait for the Shanghai one to open first as they had the rights to show the new film first. Frozen never had a set date but did meet internal targets.

Hulk was originally planned for August, Uni wanted to try and push it forwards to meet the Kong opening. And Kong only missed its soft opening target, but as no date had been publicly set it wasn't really delayed. It opened in Summer.

Plopsaland only said Heidi would open on July 1st like once, all year the marketing has said summer. And for all those delayed things, think of all the ones that opened really early. Potter in California softing for a few months before grand opening. Shanghai Disney softing a month before main opening. Galactica opening in March, not April. Pulsar opened a month before planned, Lost Gravity opened with the park. Delays happen everywhere. We had a new changing room fitted at work, went 2 weeks over schedule. Maybe this year just seems worse because they're all big names we know off?

But yeah, AI build mostly in house so the odds of it opening this year are who knows. Like said above, Time Machine was 2 years late. Plus, they can just say they were sticking to their statement about not investing if parking wasn't sorted ;)

  2. The Milenium falcon attraction is going to be like you driving one type thing so you'd see others flying around. And they're building a standard dark ride with animatronics etc too. VR is a gimmick, far too computer game like and just loses the magic of dark rides. Add in the fact everyone will be using it at home for things in 5 or so years it's just not going too be special. VR should not be the future of dark rides. They're just like really fancy personal simulators.

But the public seem to lap it up so bye bye the dark rides we all wish we could get, as VR will be it for now.

I was under the impression that Thorpe were planning on revealing Platform 15 at ScareCON (in late May), but decided against it because of Ghost Train and wanting to keep the focus on that?  So it wasn't necessarily the marketing campaign that was delayed, just the reveal to (scare) geeks.

It was going to be revealed at ScareCON yeah, and yeah the focus was still put on Ghost Train, but that was because it was delayed. The announcement would have created marketing. Remember, the BBC were at ScareCON and Thorpe would have pushed the 15th year thing when they announced it so something would have come about. And even if it was for the geeks, all those FB pages would have posted about it and it would just get about.

  4. What's brilliant is how this whole campaign is also about 2 months behind schedule thanks to the delays of Ghost Train. Halloween events are essentially Thorpe's only event now so I expect it to be hugely marketed. Sad we didn't get to play a game and have Platform15 teased to us :( it's always good fun trying to work out what we're getting.

Annual pass reservation tickets are also available now! £1 for premiums but I assume that is still just the to guarantee type thing so if they do hit capacity. You could take the risk. £5 for standard pass holders atm.

Also, with the park being closed more in the week between the FN dates, could this be the year we finally see more on park theming? They'll have more time with less people about in the mid weeks.

Nice hi res concept art finally

    pegase_express_map.jpg

Good length ride as well. SO as we know, it's a gerst family launch backward forward thing like Firechaser.

    03.jpg

    Trains look like this.

    02.jpg

    Backwards launch room?

    01.jpg

And station. And I have no doubt with how well themed Discobelix and Oziris are that this will follow suit and add something to this area of the park.

  6. I think it is just the queue line they're really working on now. The lagoon is ready, splash effects added back in. Walls are down on the bridge. New nets up under the (I hope) blue temp ones. Entrance feature in place with signs, lockers, testing empty. Staff sighted in uniform. I don't know how much testing a new ride needs, but I still haven't heard anything about softs, cast member previews etc other than August. If it doesn't open while you're there, just admire it's gorgeousness ;)

  7. I still don't get why it seems so complicated as well? Or maybe I just didn't grasp your post cianjs!

3 trains. Load onto Victorian carriage, shift out of shell left. Stop. VR sequence, move further left to the station where you get out for the live sequence. Get back on the other side of the train, headsets back on, move out the way you came in, just a different track. Stop, wait for motion platform, get on that, tilt a little bit, then shift back into Victorian carriage horizontally. Train unloads, loads, moves on and the sliding track moves back to pick up the next one for the motion platform. If it's more complex than that then I don't understand why. And if that seems like a complex thing, then Simworx really weren't the best company for this at all. And the fact remains, as cool as the ride system might be, it doesn't come through as amazing on ride.

It's like being on the underground with VR, but the underground moves faster and has sharp banked turns. And is probably creepier.

  8. I'm not sure if by 12 different journey's they mean just 12 different characters in the beginning section. Then 2 finales. Heck, you could almost have 6 different characters at the beginning, and the 2 different ends makes a potential for 12 different rides. The use of 12 different journey's is slightly misleading I think.

I would also assume that piece of paper you mention Dean does detail the capacity of each of the trains at the moment so the batcher knows how many to batch. I think the different endings are meant to be different throughout the train so you could be like "nah I had this :o" and all get confused about what happened.

  9. The photo points aren't causing a 2 hour queue. And we found they're actually nice as they keep the queue moving at a constant pace instead of stop starting. And when they were being too slow they'd just flood a group of 60 through the 2nd photo point. At no point were they short of people between the second photo point and bag drop.

Throughput I've heard will be in the region of 8/900 pph when fully going. I don't think the batching will get much quicker, just the group sizes a bit larger. If the second video isn't ready still and the throughput not 100% with broken headsets still an issue, should it be officially open? I know Thorpe will have wanted it open as soon as possible, but it just seems to be asking for trouble.

  10. Update time!

New locker system using park tickets instead of fingerprints (like the system used on Arthur at Europa)

A look inside the now undercover extended queue.

Big boy seats added to front and back row.

Still no sign of an opening for this even though it is testing non stop basically. It is just queue work to go. Kong also has no opening, although everywhere is being advertised as open. It is still in technicals but has been open for almost the whole day every day now so yeah. Guess that's a safe bet. The media event is now assumed to be whenever Kong's is since Uni didn't want to hold it as originally planned, which would have been a few days after the Pulse incident in which Universal lost several cast members. A good tribute single has been released, slightly off topic but yeah. Proceeds go to  Equality Florida Pulse Victims Fund, the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida, and GLAAD.

Best wished to all those affected.

Studios has a new stand out structure though.

    Cmy1nWvUsAAZfDP.jpg

Taller than the lighthouse! Plus the volcano, they're really pumping out a skyline.

Secret Life of Pets: Apparently, for this to arrive in Orlando as a ride the film has to hit a certain box office number. No idea what number that is. Hollywood's one has also gone a bit quiet even though construction has kinda started and someone from Comcast confirmed a ride was in the works. Add it to the worst kept secret list with Kong.

Sixth hotel. It's happening, on the current resort. 600 rooms located tightly between Sapphire Falls and Cabana Bay. Will be the smallest hotel (only by 50 rooms compared to Hard Rock at 650).

This proposed pedestrian circulation plan submitted (rotated to the proper geographic direction of the property) by Universal shows proposed walkways around the entire property. The red circle (added by Orlando Business Journal) shows what could be the location of the hotel just south of Sapphire Falls Resort, as well as two future water features to the south.

Red circle shows location and how the resort is going to look with VB and Sapphire Falls.

Trademark for the name "Aventura Hotel at Universal" was also found. Expect it to open summer next year along with VB. Room count on resort: Up to 7200 including this, still less than half what Comcast said it was aiming for. A lot more to come.

  11. Having spent the day here today I'm not at all surprised.

Have always loved this park, Critter Creek is a wacky but brilliant retheme and I hope they continue to retheme certain areas like this in the future.

    20160707_125520.jpg

It's bright, vibrant and just fun all round!

Lost Kingdom is an amazing expanexpansion. What they got for the money they spent is great and shows how far it can go when used wisely. The Vekoma SFC's are a great coaster for family thrills and the junior boomerangs are brill too. Some decent flats, decent animatronics and decent music playing throughout.

It's great to see how much they've grown since Peppa Pig and can't wait to see what they do next! :)

  12. That isn't happening and we are now more likely to see a GoTG ride at Epcot.

The Marvel contract reads that because Universal has used characters from the Avengers team they have the rights to them all, thus the Avengers dark ride rumour for IoA.

There is nothing saying they won't spark a new deal to let Disney use certain characters. It's well known that Uni wants to stay away from using the film versions As they change so much so stick to the comic styles. Disney will probably want to use the film versions like Chris Pratt as Starlord for pulling purposes. So they might work with that.

  13. Wow. Was expecting so much from this. The preshow is good, different to those seen before in this country.

The train looked quite good even though it was clearly fake. Transition straight into an underground train makes no sense. As does the whole victorian styling but the whole ride is then set in like modern London.

It's rushed getting on the carriage so you hardly have time to admire this "illusion." You have to get the VR on fast or you'll miss beginning bits. This section was decent, video quality was good and the story started to unfold a bit.

The ' live action' scene is just shouty and predictable. Have seen the effect used much better with a lower budget.

Back on with VR. Yay. The problems arise. The quality of the video drops, it's not very scary as the effect wears off fast. Then there's a boring loop section that plays as the ride system preps your vehicle for the next section. I know they are aware of this issue and it's technical rehearsals but how this part made it to this point is laughable.

Then it ends. Urm. Very unimpressed. I knew VR would be used but not THAT much. The 5 experiences are very loosely touched. It doesn't seem to flow very well. It feels like you hardly move. There's hardly any theatrics or grand illusion. The story is an odd choice.

The ride technology may be great, stunning, spectacular. Doesn't feel that when you're on it though. Which is surely more important! Not knowing how it works 100% but it's either not that stunning or Simworx severely overcomplicated things. Disney and Uni are no doubt interested in the technology, which they'll get Dynamic to make better and make a ride that uses it to it's potential.

As for spoilers. EVERYTHING gets spoilt these days. Movies, rides. Everything. Even DB's shows do get spoilt fully by some writers even though he asks them not to. Derren asks us to keep it a secret to not ruin the fun. That's fine. This is a spoiler thread, you're either here to discuss the ride or look for spoilers for some reason in which case you're just ruining it for yourself. Not a lot you can do. Don't get the difference bbetween discussing it now or when it's properly open.

Also, I know it's in softs and will go in again when it's properly open with an open mind. But there isn't much they can do in my eyes.

The public seem to love it though. Guess that's all that matters. Oh well, more VR prominent attractions. Also feel like the vive was hardly utilised to it's potential. Shame as the potential is there, as it is with a lot of this.

  14. More information released!

    • Krakatau: The 200-foot volcano, Krakatau, will be home to the unannounced marquee attraction and three body slides at the rear of the volcano with surprise doors that drop guests down into the slide. One of the body slides, Ko'okiri Body Plunge, is a 70-degree drop that sends guests down 125-feet through the center of the volcano and through a guest pool. The other two body slides, the Kala and Ta Nui Serpentine Body Slides, are two intertwining slides where guests will race along 124 feet of twists and turns. In addition, the area will have Punga Racers, "a high-speed race through four different enclosed slides featuring manta-shaped mats."
    • Wave Village: Located at the base of Krakatau will be the Waturi Beach, a multi-directional wave pool with a sand beach and private one- or two-story cabanas. In addition, The Reef, is a leisure pool where guests get a view of those brave enough to ride the body slides.
    • River Village: The calming, lazy river-style portion of the park includes the Kopiko Wai Winding River that passes though the caves of the volcano, which features water effects and nighttime lighting; Tot Tiki Reef, a play area for toddlers with slides and a kid-size volcano; Runamukka Reef, a three-story water playground with slides and sprinklers; Honu, a multi-passenger raft ride with two giant slope walls; and Ika Moana, another multi-passenger raft ride that will glide along bubble geysers.
    • Rainforest Village: A part of the water park based on thrills like Maku, North America's first "saucer ride" that has raft riders "speeding around three saucer-shaped curves;" Puihi, another multi-passenger raft ride that will take guests into a dark area with a zero-gravity drop; Ohyah and Ohno Drop Slides, two twisting slides that will launch guests four and six feet above the water at the end; TeAwa The Fearless River, a racing torrent, whitewater rapids river where guests can hang onto inner tubes; Taniwha Tubes, four EasterIsland-inspired slides; and Puka Uli Lagoon, a relaxing pool area.
