  1. I think it will be hard to break away from RCT. Might take a while before I buy any version of TPS..
  2. I don't think I said, thanks all for a great time/laugh last Saturday (especially to Peaj who helped in persuading me to go) It was alot of fun, as was meeting alot of awesome peeps. While I can't make the Chessington meet, I hope to be able to attend one later in the year. Over and out..

    Legoland

They better have a darn good facade for Burger Kitchen. I have always admired LEGOLAND for their strong, quality investments, even under Merlin but recent changes are starting to change my mind. Shame.. Looks like the Pirate Falls will now be called Pirate Falls Treasure Quest according to the website

    Park Map

I think it will take them some time to reestablish a firm brand but I think they could pull it off with a bit of work. Only, I am not quite sure what target audience they are going for now? Something along the lines of Alton? Maybe aimed a little less on children?

    Drop it like it's hot.

Like many, this was my first inverter and I believe, first B&M. First time riding, it was the most intense and exciting sensation I had ever experienced . Not that hard when all I had to compare it too was a wildmouse and the Dragon Coaster at LEGOLAND. Nicely written and well summarized.
  6. How very bizzare! I have been researching this building all this week to the point where I was even in the process of starting a thread on here; guess it has been done for me now I had previously visited January 2012 and while enjoyed my stay, felt it seemed somewhat..depressing (A huge white room with a few arcade machines). Last Thursday I visited again to find the entire central part, gutted. Literally elevators had been ripped up, rubble everywhere. I thought it was going through a massive overhaul at the time (or result of structural collapse) but when I got home I found out about the hotel. I believe there is 8-10 floors though only three have been used in recent years. Wish I could see inside these areas now. As a side note, its previous owner was Nick Leslau; owner of Thorpe Park and other Merlin attractions.
  7. I am just praying that steel perimeter isn't going to support a backflash. Can't stand those things unless they are at circus/fairgrounds. So cheap looking!
  8. As a frequent visitor to the site, this is sad news. It was one of the only links I had with AI and was a great little source for information. I too hope things work out for you Hurri!
  9. Does Chessington actually have any power over these changes/alternations, or is it down to the big boys at Merlin and Merlin Magic Making? I find it tragic that people are starting to expect this poor quality work as "the norm" nowadays. Lack of creativity, knowledge or just pure laziness in my opinion.
  10. My first was the Scenic Railway at Dreamland Margate. My second was the Dragon coaster at LEGOLAND, followed by the Jungle Coaster. My first ride at an adult theme park (ie: Thorpe or Alton) was Stealth.
  11. I will be there. (I am still waiting on a few uni interviews though nothing is booked for the 22nd and I would like to think it wouldn't be a Saturday anyway).

    Legoland

It was only a matter of time before they brought in the Burger Kitchen. Disappointed it is replacing the Crossed Ribs eatery though as that was a gooden'. On another note, I wonder why they are so keen to rebrand Pirate's Landing after only a few seasons.
  13. Regardless of what cycles Merlin may use when investing in their resort parks, I truly don't think Thorpe need a new coaster for 2015. I believe there is a need for some kind of new attraction, (whether it be thrill or family), and obviously superior to Storm Surge or SAW Alive but a coaster just isn't it (in my opinion of course ).
  14. Can't bear the cringe anymore... Stop?
  15. So long as nothing vitally important comes up, I believe I should be able to make it for either of those dates. I am looking forward to having my first meet this year.
  16. Thanks Peaj! I appreciate the support and encouragement. I have been tempted to go to one of the meets for ages now but feel I am finally ready to give it a go this year. Hopefully I can make it to the Thorpe Park one in March!
  17. I find it disappointing that a company as big and financially funded as Merlin lack that little ambition to really go all out on a new attraction. I know Chessington isn't the easiest landscape to work with due to height restrictions etc but in the case of refreshing an old attraction, I don't see why the rocks can't return. If Pleasure Beach can take the time to replace the giant Valhalla facade, Merlin sure as hell can do the same with RMT. Maybe I am jumping to conclusions, but from what I hear, I am not expecting much.
  18. I have visited Chessington twice in the last few years and have had an excellent day both times. Unfortunately it frustrates me to hell when they have so much potential but clearly lack the ability to get crap done. Of course I know much of it is beyond their control, and the fact they are reinvesting money in old rides is great. I just wish they had a bit more structure to their plans. Really know where they are going and what their long term vision for the site is.
  19. A strong, recognizable brand though one that has undoubtedly passed its heyday. Merlin have clearly done the sums, the research and IPs do seem to be popular (as much as I despise them), however in the long term, I don't see this as a particularly enticing offer. Flipping the coin however, surely reopening the 4d theatre can't be a bad thing?

    Good luck with that mission..
  21. My Brighton Sands Amusement Park that has been running fairly consistently since late 2011. The park is now in its 28th season storyline wise. The park is a typical English seaside amusement park that started off small but gradually developed over time. Brighton Sands features a range of rides and rollercoasters for all ages. The Sharkbait dive machine with the Wooden Rumbler coaster in the background. The project has its own thread though these are just a few general shots.
  22. Ive never been to a meet before and would feel somewhat nervous, especially seeing as I rarely use forum features like 'chat' or know anyone here on a personal level. Having said that I feel confident enough to give it a go and would certainly be up for one or two meets next year (especially Blackpool providing Uni doesn't interfere). Being 18 in a weeks time should also help me in some respects.
  23. I visited a few weeks ago. Disappointingly I didn't think much of Air, the starshape ride which I was really looking forward too. I was hoping it might be a better version of Samurai but came of feeling slightly let down. (May have hyped myself up too much) I thought the ride selection including the danish fun house walk through and Ice Kingdom were impressive, as were the never ending alleys of stalls and games. However despite the effort that was clearly put into this event, the expesinsive prices and poor attitude of certain staff member left me leaving with a sour taste in my mouth. Nice day but I doubt I will be returning for a while.
  24. Thanks Matt. The good thing about this project is they have an enthusiastic and dedicated team behind them, all who genuinely want Dreamland to succeed. In my opinion this is much better than getting some half arsed job by some company with no real vision. Just a pity how run down the place looks. Anyway guys, here is the final installment of the Dreamland Open Day. This update focuses on the West Side of the park and its current condition. Any questions, just ask! (Apologies about picture sizes) After we walked around the stalls half a dozen times we decided to head up to the west side of the park. As part of the open day, vintage cars and motorbikes littered the site, often with people driving them around. I was less interested in this part though it all added to the experience. While not much was going on at the west side of the park (other than the vintage cars), I couldn't miss taking some close ups. This is clearly the sad remains of the Scenic Railway station. I have to say seeing it like this wasn't easy. It was actually my first rollercoaster. A host of vintage vehicles parked up on the west side. In the past this area has been home to rides likes the Big Wheel, the Wild Mouse and the Caterpillar. The remains of a gokart track can also be seen on site. The majority of this area won't be used for phase one of the Dreamland project. Instead it will act as a performance space and overflow car park. Rides will gradually be placed on the area as they become available. Parts of the historic ride collection lay in this corner of the park. This includes parts of Southport's old wooden wild mouse, River Caves boats and the remaining mechanical parts of the Cableway ride. Historic rides with menagerie cages and turret in background. The former buffet/arcade building sits alone on the west side of the park. This building dates back to pre war though now looks worn and dilapidated. Artistic shot? Old arcade signage with the original art deco supergraphics peering through from behind. This building has certainly seen better days.. Small bungalow lies near the buffet building. From what I could tell, it seems this building was converted into a toilet block sometime in its history. The striking art deco cinema fin is one of the key landmarks on Margate seafront. The building has recently undergone an urgent works notice in an attempt to prevent further decay. Other than the lower level tunnel entrance (seen here), the rest of the building isn't planned for full restoration until phase 2. Well, I believe that is everything. Hope you found it all interesting. Thanks!
