  2. legoland still seems to be ever so popular year on year, even with these cheap rethemes... I would say once they finish with the small rethemes they could actually get a new ride, but with how long in between, I doubt we'll see anything new - they hardly seem to have the space to expand without removing an existing ride which is unlikely. Merlin are reactive, and not proactive... they will wait for visitors to drop dramatically before adding something to do something about it, not keep customers happy and coming back to new rides which may increase their guests.
  3. cheers, I mean I guessed that as that's what they done last year - but surely to the general public this would look as if they were closed? :/ great to see thorpe working on their great opening times from last year, for even better ones... thorpe are really setting an example for alton towers here.
  4. Those fright night preview days are oddly done, nice to see its more than one day even if it is after the first weekend... And does that mean those days are closed to public?
  5. never been before, or even on a meet for that matter - I work every weekend, but pretty sure I could get sunday 23rd off work if it was then (the other 2 dates are fully booked off at work). so once the date is decided I may consider going (somewhere I've never been probably outweighs the 3 and a half hour drive from bristol), and try and get the day off work if so. I'll vote 23rd, just in case it is then, and I'll try and get it off work to go.

  7. considering they're making this retheme out to be quite a big thing... and surely 14million is quite alot for what's going on around the park - I should hope we see something decent done with the ride.

  11. it's nice to see them putting these great ideas out there, and asking for opinions, whether they're actually taking any notice of them or not? in terms of the entrance system for the crash pads - was weird seeing people leave and enter through the small annual pass and crash pad entrance, with all their luggage struggling to squeeze past people queueing to get in the park... do we know how close in the future we are expecting to see a new entrance, as I guess they could get away with it for another season or so.
  12. I prefer the boardwalk idea as it seems to have a theme within itself, and would fit... I just can't see the other idea working.

  14. I don't know what thorpe done with the flying fish... but flying fish is an old ride, and when the brought it back under the name flying fish it had a new train - as the runaway train layout is the same as flying fish.
  15. I call Alton Towers Resort, just alton towers, in fact I would never use the word resort - what's the point!? I even call Thorpe Park just Thorpe a lot of the time.
  16. I think it will keep the name detonator, just be called 'Angry Birds Detonator'... with the angry birds on top the ride, and some pigs dotted around the station area.
  17. With the runaway train being rethemed, do you reckon we'll see new trains, like the ones used on flying fish at thorpe park (different theme obviously), but in terms of individual lapbars... as I found it a lot more comfortable and had more leg space on the new style train.
  18. I'm sure quite a substantial amount of that investment would be licensing rights though?
  19. after last years season though... in all fairness with all the events (summer nights, and MOS etc.) it had, thorpe as in the park itself is probably the most resort like - although it does require some other aspects outside the park, and a proper hotel, although with the new style crash pad staying for possibly up to 8 years, it is sort of a relatively permanent fixture adding resort to the name - so that's why they renamed the new crash pads to include hotel to make it sound good and fit in.

  21. It was another family we went with, not in my family but she was crying because she wasn't tall enough to do all the big rides when her a brother a year older was... Guessing this must be an extreme case aha
  22. I question how everyone views detonator as this really scary thrill ride, when at most I find it enjoyable for the short while it lasts... I went with a family who had a 9 year old just under 1.4m, who loved detonator and said it was her favourite ride... I mean are people forgetting that children this young can still be tall enough, and not all kids are scared of bigger rides? So angry birds fitting in with a flat that has a smaller height restriction of 1.3m isn't that bad of an idea really... I know they haven't specifically chosen this ride, only because it's in the area of angry birds land and for it to fit in has to have some sort of retheme. And saying trying to appeal to younger audiences when they don't have enough rides to... Without cebeebies land, Alton towers don't have a lot really, and chessington doesn't have loads and loads of rides for that age group, so at least there's more than before, as families with teenagers and younger children would go and find hardly anything for the younger children, but would now in my opinion be sufficient for all to enjoy.
  23. there's only so much we can expect of chessington, and well this is chessington, we know what they're like... although I'm sure they didn't initially plan for the runaway train to be closed all season - and then guessing they aquired more funding to change the retheme and hotel etc. which either didn't leave enough money, or more likely time to retheme dragon falls - at least we can be happy that it'll be open for the season again? as for creaky cafe, like benin said regardless of whether it's chessington or not, I don't think it's fair to expect it to be open in time for the season, although I think it's not too much to expect to open at some point in the season... do we know if the scorpion express, hotel and new zoo area (forgot what it's called) will be open for the opening of the season, or is it going to be a later addition like Cebeebies and Angry Birds land!
  24. hopefully with slammer & samurai actually open, along with better reliability parkwide which I'm guessing was seen improved in 2013, as well as 2 new attractions... will hopefully have a positive effect on queue times. anything new, or reopening... giving a larger amount of attractions can only be seen as a good thing regardless of whether it appeals to you or not.
  25. Storm surge from what I remember was not marketed at families whatsoever... I'm sure the advert was young adult orientated. I don't think they put that in because of families, but because it's a ride they could get hold of cheap, and a fun one which they thought would appeal to the target audience at the time. X retheme however was clearly done for the family market, which was the focus of changer after the 2012 season in my opinion. It's understandable that solely marketing for a teenage / young adult audience who are probably the age group with the least money, wasn't a good move for thorpe, and it's a good idea to still have attractions for the younger audience while mainly focusing on the thrill side to it (as legoland is young children, chessington is family based for all ages, thorpe is mainly thrill seekers, and alton towers features a bit of everything), I just hope they don't go too much the other way and forget about the thrill seeker market as they have done for this year (and questionably last year), leaves me pessimistic about what we'll see next year; and hope thorpe realise what they're doing - this year will either be really good for them in terms of attracting a lot of the younger market which may not normally go, but see angry birds land and want to go, or put off a lot of thrill seekers going with nothing new for them really for the past 2 years and have a bad year, or I guess could be somewhere between - I hope it's a bad year for them to make them realise they're pushing their thrill capital slogan and audience away. In all fairness we went to fright nights who had a family with children 9, 10 & 14, and the 10 year old was just 1.4m so would have liked to gone on everything if they had the time, so when you say thrill seekers, if they liked rides, children who are still pretty young can still have the full experience of thorpe park!
