  1. Well with every other categorie it seems very amusement park based. Europa I imagine is coming down to good operations, good ride offerings and good extras. So comes together for best all round experience. So while I imagine theming played a part in the decision I doubt it was the main reason because like mentioned there are parks with far better theming.
  2. They are more amusement park awards rather than theme park. The theming there may be incredible but to me I'd prefer just a decent ride.
  3. The train does not have power nor does it have its own brakes. Once the ride has left the lift hill there is no stopping it until the next brake run. The momentum of the train is massive. They weigh close to 10 tons each and when travelling at a high velocity colliding with an 80kg person will give a small overall change to the velocity of the train. So while the train will slow down it will slow down very little and likely have no impact on the train completing the circuit.
  4. Europa has just won best park from the golden ticket awards again.
  5. In person the size is underwhelming. Then again I've always had a negative view on the project. I'm just not a dark ride person. Most likely as I haven't been on a proper one.
  6. Just some rough working (may have gone wrong) stealth only uses approximately 3.5kwh per launch. So say it launches 40 an hour which would be pushing it with 2 trains so it's looking at around 1000kwh per day. The saving energy thing doesn't save that much. An average house uses 6500kwh per year. Stealth is definitely a maximum in the park so there saving the environment thing with one train is basically worthless on the other rides. Stealth would have an impact but swarm...
  7. It seems Thorpe have gone back to my favourite excuse again. "We are sorry you felt this way, but to conserve energy and aid the environment we reduce cars when there is low demand"
  8. When I went the lack of themeing did nothing to my overall experience. They keep the place clean and entertaining. The cattle pens have tv with games and music to keep you from getting bored. They have so many coasters that queues are of a reasonable length even at the peak of summer. Its not like six flags where its tacky and full of sponsors and run poorly, its a nice place to be which is run well. This new ride will fit in nicely to their line up and I can't wait to ride it.
  9. So Cedar point did there official announcement today. Confirmed everything we already knew. Only new news is the trains are floorless 8 seats across with swarm style restraints.
  10. I think the reason it's doing badly is because no one knows about it. I have seen no advertisement at all. When I've asked people about they didn't know of its existence. The London dungeons doesn't need anywhere near as much advertisement as shrek because everyone knows about it. I think this simpley comes down to people not knowing it's there. There is other factors like a dead IP and other stuff already mentioned but I think the main one is people not knowing it's existence.
  11. Altair is the newest Colossus clone which has lapbar trains with no straps.
  12. At summer nights they close off rows as it is ride procedure (something to do with stalling I think). It is not an issue with the trains. Of course the ride would be far better with new trains and a lick of paint but I don't see it happening. They still continue to pour money into samurai to keep it working. I don't see that culture changing any time soon. I reckon they will pour money into those trains for many many more years to come.
  13. Maverick wasn't rough. The quick changes in directions did sometimes mean you hit the restraints if you weren't prepared for the change. However they have recently changed the restraints on Maverick so that it is padded so I cant really comment on that issue any more.
  14. No the mist was off for a few hours. from about 3 onwards as far as I was aware. Last rode it at about 5:15 so it could have come back on after that.
  15. Giving it back to them would require merlin to store bank details. Something no company really wants to be doing. The logistics behind returning the money would be stupid and not worth the time.
  16. Consult all of section 11 which states that they can charge for this with no breach. Whilst normally these situations are too vague and they would never hold up in court fright nights is given as a specific example and so they are completely covered.
  17. Section 11.5 allows them to charge for fright nights for all types of passes. Along side this there is also section 11.1 which allows to charge a booking fee for anything they want. Saying that what they are doing is wrong. Yes it is only a pound but the point still stands.
  18. That £36 million waste of money in Brighton is called the i360 and has no relation to Merlin Entertainments. That is the only thing on earth I hate more than RnR so as a precaution I'd avoid mentioning it before I go off in a mega rant.
  19. Doubt its wc16 related. Could be airs new name or something completly unrelated. Unless it confirms thorpes space themed glamping.
  20. Those silver things are the same thing that support the curved inside wall. I think that they will just be supporting a wall for the upper level.
  21. Went today as my last time before I move to Wales with some come back for £10 voucher and I have to say it was a nice end to my era at Thorpe. Operations were good. Slammer slow as usual but not an issue. Everything else was getting through the crowds well.
  22. Swarm had a restraint issue so one had to be removed.
  23. I don't think there is any ride system in place at the moment in time. Currently it's all the building and the inner walls.
  24. So not a simulator. Some kind of tracked thing. It's obvious when you see it in person because of where the inner walls are.
  25. It does seem to have excessive bracing. That could just be there to maximise the space inside. To reduce the number of support pillars inside you get that sort of beam structure.
