Gerstlauer have been in the news. Search the name on Google and they come up in recent articles. They all say that they built new Texas giant and killed someone. They just haven't been on TV.

I know I'm normally very against a lot of Merlin's decisions and the way they run the place. However they way they are handling this is very well. Not sure why Varney agreed to have an interview with sky but he did handle it very well. The media will always exaggerate and ask difficult questions(especially when that person has no knowledge of he subject and won't accept any answer than the one they are looking for).

when I originally posted it didn't have that, it was just 4 rides closed if which 2 were at chessington.The article says:
"A Chessington spokeswoman said the two rides at the park there were safe, but staff working on them needed further training before they could be reopened."
In my opinion a wrong thing to say. This makes it sound like the stuff has not been trained enough until now to operate such rides, which I can't imagine. This will be a hard time for the staff now.

Agreed. Stupid bit on their behalf, the person who posted it claimed he was unaware of the smiler incident at the time.

They did apologise for that tweet and did delete it almost instantly.

Or instead of luck it was a rushed, poorly engineered business investment which was executed poorly and run by staff who were following insufficient protocols. Then again like you said it could just be luck.

Speed was closed yesterday however going by their twitter its opened again today.

It would seem from the H&S report that Gerstlauer have got someone over there assisting and Gerstlauer are cooperating in their investigations.

Is it not the case that the manual override for the lift hill is at the bottom of the lift where it is not possible to see the rest of the track.

I've operated Storm Surge, which has 5 cameras, only about 40% of the ride is actually visible from the cameras.
Arh ok now I know, also Ewwww storm surge.

I don't think you are allowed to operate a ride without all sections being able to be seen by the operator. I'm quite sure its a regulation they must meet before being allowed to open a ride. I would not be surprised if this comes down to miscommunication between the ride team and the engineers.

True, but saying that the trims played no part at all may not be entirely correct.

You don't know that trims didn't play a part of this. After all something made that train stall.

The daily mail do gain some credibility towards the end of the article. It's just the first half that is inaccurate rubbish which is insulting to call news.

Alton towers is closed tomorrow.
The decision has been taken that Alton Towers theme park will not open tomorrow Wednesday 3rd June following the dreadful incident on The Smiler today. All guests with pre-booked tickets, or those who arrive at the theme park, will have the choice of either having their tickets revalidated for an alternative date or a full refund.
We will be posting regular updates on the theme park closure on both our website and social media channels. -
I don't think rush was closed when skyhawk's cable's snapped. Skyhawk wasnt closed very long, it opened 2 weeks later.

Was the e-stop engaged? With all the lies spurting out from sky and the BBC I don't think we have a very clear picture of what happened.

If its a fault with the block system then Gerst need to know. After all their rides main focus is multiple trains/cars at a time with multiple blocks.

It would seem investors are not having a positive outlook on today as the Merlin share price has fallen lower than what it was on the day of the incident.
