I found Cheetah Hunt's restraints perfectly fine, even compared to a lap bar I found they gave perfectly sufficient freedom. I don't think it and Verbolten are really that comparable, but this does look cool. I don't get why they didn't just go with Intamin anyway for the actual coaster though tbh.

Busch Gardens there DEPISE Intamin for whatever reason... Hence why their new drop tower (that does everything Intamin do) isn't one... Reputation proceeds them perhaps but they just point blank refuse to work with them... And considering how often their shoulder restraints attempt to behead me (iSpeed being the latest) I never am excited for Intamins like that...In other news, the Golden Tickets have been announced, like they ever change in 90% of the categories...http://goldenticketawards.com/award_winners.html

Well Europa Park is now #3 best park in the world! And Pleasure Beach the best in Britain. As usual, totally US-focussed.

Warner Bros. Movie World Australia is set to get a new S&S El Loco next year, under the name of 'Green Lantern'... S&S have gone all out on this one though, as it's going to have LAP BARS ONLY! Also it will have 8-person cars, similar to that of the original style Eurofighter cars. Well this was unexpected...

We have great news to share today. At a press conference happening right now at Walt Disney Imagineering, Bob Iger and Tom Staggs just announced a long-term creative partnership with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and Fox Filmed Entertainment to bring the fantasy world of AVATAR to life at Disney Parks. And it’ll all begin at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort.Posted ImageJames and his producing partner Jon Landau and their team at Lightstorm Entertainment will serve as creative consultants on the project and will work side-by-side with our Walt Disney Imagineers as we dream up experiences that will take our guests deep into worlds of AVATAR like never before. There are also two sequels to the record setting first film in the works, which will offer more fascinating stories, characters and locations to explore in the AVATAR universe. Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort is planned as the site of the first AVATAR-themed land with construction expected to begin by 2013.We believe Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a great fit for this project because it was created to give guests the opportunity to experience the worlds of animals and nature – real and mythical – in new ways. Disney’s Animal Kingdom also celebrates adventure, living in harmony with nature and environmental stewardship – themes that are deeply rooted in the story of AVATAR.The design phase on the Disney’s Animal Kingdom project has just begun so stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for more details.Got questions about the announcement? If so, Tom Staggs will be answering them in a special Q&A blog post later today. Just submit your name, city where you’re from and your question to questionsfortom@disney.com and then check the Disney Parks Blog later to see some of the answers.

Why the need to use that meme yet again? It's really not that crazy; DAK hasn't received any investment for longer than any of the other parks. This could turn out great, we could be looking at any number and scale of new attractions which could really bring the park up to scratch and beyond just a few hours trip. We don't know anything yet. But we mustn't be optimistic must we

Not much to go on so far on Avatar: the area but it does fit into Animal Kingdom well. It was my second favourite park out there as well so I'm chuffed that some time in the future it will have a major franchise thrown it. I'm intrigued as to why they didn't use something like Poccahontas which runs along similar lines as Avatar but maybe they just needed something more recent to compete with Harry Potter.Woo

Why not invest into Animal Kingdom with anything other than that piece of over-rated tripe though?Potterland envy is what it is, but how a fake world fits into the rather realistic theming of the park (even DINOLAND is realistic) I don't get... I dislike this a lot... At least the other non-Disney IPs (Star Tours/Indy/Aerosmith) suit their parks and areas...This though... URGH... I'll use that meme if I want to because it's quite frankly a stupid idea... Where's Beastly Kingdom when you need it?

Dead is where Beastly Kingdom is. Has been for 15 years and nothing will change that now. Strangely enough, when Disney kick out a load of Imagineers and they go flooding to Universal who just happen to be designing a new park, some ideas... Migrate. Not that anyone ever did build an inverted dragon coaster set in a burnt out castle.

And a bit more non info from the bloghttp://disneyparks.d...t-disney-parks/Hmmm, not an Avatar fan myself, thought it was dumb pretentious crap (Unobtainium? F**k off, and if I can correctly guess the end of a film about an hour before it happens then I don't think anyone has tried hard enough really).I think it's a massive bad move. Avatar may have been a big film, but it is not like Star Wars/Tours, Indie, Harry Potter etc in that they have gone on for ages and people have grown up with them so really care about the characters. Anyone even name an Avatar character? Or remotely give a crap about what happens to any of them? Probably not. Will be interesting to see where they go with it though (or if they run out of money and change heir minds). Just a shame Disney doesn't have the confidence in anything they are producing at the moment to create major park experiences which open to coincide with the release of the picture, rather than a few years after even the inevitably less successful sequels have been released (this, cars).

Some sad news today for the coaster industry today. Ron Toomer, one of the more prominent people in the company Arrow Dynamics, passed away last night after a 4-month battle with cancer, at the age of 81. :D>Source<

The amusement industry lost one of its brightest stars today with the passing Ronald V. Toomer who died peacefully in his sleep at 12:15 p.m. following a four-month battle with cancer. He was 81.Born in Pasadena, Calif. on May 31, 1930, Ron spent his early life in the Golden State before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952. After 13 months in Germany, he returned home to continue his education. As a graduate of the University of Nevada-Reno (1961, B.S.), he worked for the Hercules Powder Company as a mechanical engineer on the nozzle section of the second stage Minuteman solid rocket motor. For Thermatest Laboratories Inc., he served as a mechanical engineer responsible for research and testing of high temperature materials for use in the aerospace industry including the design, development and manufacturing of the heat shield sensors for the NASA Apollo space program.Privately, Ron enjoyed working with wood. He hand carved waterfowl and enjoyed assembling wooden car kits. He was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, picture puzzles, cooking and gardening. In his younger years, he most enjoyed the days when he could hike and camp in the High Sierras and visit the nation’s National Parks.Publicly, though, Ron is perhaps most well known for his work in the amusement industry with Arrow Development (aka Arrow Dynamics) and the creation of a vast number of attractions, particularly the modern steel roller coaster. While his first assignment with Arrow was water issues at Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean, the Runaway Mine Train at Six Flags Over Texas was his first roller coaster project. Working alongside Carl Bacon, he helped produce a coaster that paved the way with an amazing collection of coaster and ride projects. All total, Toomer would be credited with 93 steel roller coasters. He assisted with countless other non-coaster rides, including the initial layout for the hillside setting of the Six Flags Magic Mountain log flume. Prior to his death, he admitted that when it comes to professional achievements, he was most proud of his contribution to the development of the first practical upside-down coaster elements (The Corkscrew) and his induction into the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Hall of Fame in the year 2000.Ron is survived by his wife, Betty of 54 years, four children and their spouses: Gregory and Christie Toomer of Darien, Ga.; Carol and Jeffrey Thornton of Bedford, Texas; Gary and Alana Mitchell of Keller, Texas; Christopher and Kristi Toomer of Parker, Colo. and nine grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Martin United Methodist Church in Bedford, Texas. Flowers or cards may be sent to the church at: 2621 Bedford Road, Bedford, Texas 76021.

Here's a list of some of his more known creations:
  • Vampire-Chessington
  • The Big One-Pleasure Beach Blackpool
  • Desperado at Buffalo Bill's Resort&Casino
  • Corkscrew-Cedar Point
  • The Big Bad Wolf-Busch Gardens Williamsburg
  • The Lochness Monster-Busch Gardens Williamsburg
  • Magnum XL 200-Cedar Point (this is the coaster that broke the 200ft height, a big accolade for Arrow Dynamics)
  • Gemini-Cedar Point
  • Ragin' Cajun-Pontchartrain Beach (relocated to Great Escape&Splashwater Kingdom)
  • Cedar Creek Mine ride-Cedar Point
  • And of course many more…
A random fact... but Ron rarely tried out any of his coasters, due to him having a motion sickness problem since a young age.R.I.P Ron :( , the coaster industry wouldn't be the same as it is today without you. :)Posted Image
