Whoops. Turns out the area will be called 'Exotic World'. Along with Tiki Waka and Tiki Trail, which will also go other the park's boat ride, the façades for the arena (still-disused) and Challenge of Tutankhamon will get makeovers to fit in with the area. There's also going to be a new juice and cocktail bar, and new music by IMA score, the second time the park have worked with them, after Pulsar. In other news, there's no news regarding the 2021 mega coaster - any layouts shown are just to give a rough indication of what is expected, and no manufacturer has been confirmed. But it is still going to happen.. Also, the Coccinelle kiddie coaster, which was removed to make way for Tiki Waka and meant to go next to the park's woodie this year, is apparently now going to be put in storage until that area is rethemed in 2021. So one cred in, one cred out. Unacceptable.
JoshC.
A nice overview of Tiki Waka, featuring a completed lift hill... Image from Wonder World's Facebook I'm also under the impression that the layout will differ slightly to the video linked a while back, but that's not confirmed.. JoshC.
Another nice overview, also showing the Tiki Trail, from Walactu's Facebook...
JoshC.
Tiki Waka's circuit was completed at the beginning of the month, but the Tiki Trail still is not. Testing still hasn't begun as a result and the area isn't near completion yet, so the opening of Exotic World (which was meant to be this week) has been delayed, with no new date set yet. Mega-Lite
It would appear it's all the rage these days for new attractions to open late, this will be no different.
JoshC. JoshC.
Just as one coaster finishes (more theming and effects have been added to the area since that POV), there's some rumours of the 2021 coaster... Exact source I'm not sure about, but this is supposedly what the station for the mega coaster will look like. If true, Walibi really are hitting the sweet spot with theming! Matt 236
That concept looks fab. Almost looks like something from Efteling or Phantasialand.
JoshC.
Walibi Belgium took a trip to Switzerland and took some drugs with Intamin... Coming in 2021. Note that, sadly, the new Intamin at Asterix will be 51m tall, so this will only be the highest coaster in the Benelux. Burn. Again, another mental-looking coaster from Intamin; that final third looks insane. Anddddd, just as a reminder of what's coming up in Walibi Belgium over the next few years: 2019: Popcorn Revenge - 3D shooting erratic dark ride 2019: Junior coaster 2020: Splash battle and Gerstlauer sky fly / sky roller 2021: Intamin coaster and re-introduction of their kiddie cred, along with a retheme of the Vampire / Werewolf area Damn Walibi, damn. Benin
Alternative video: It's weird, between the first drop and the final set of airtime hills it looks a bit, eh?
Matt 236
Some of those elements seem strange yet interesting, but the airtime hills and turns towards the end look fantastic. Still looks a great coaster though, to say the least.
JoshC.
Bringing it back to 2019, courtesy of Fan Club Walibi... More details of the new land for next year, which is being called 'Karma World'. The plan is for all areas to be rethemed by 2022 and will follow the '_____ world' naming. Not a fan of that idea as it can sound tiresome, but heyho. They seem to have strayed away from the original Bollywood theme a bit, which makes sense given Popcorn Revenge, so it'll be interesting to see how the whole area feels. Construction update from this week... On top of this, there is another rethemed area coming - Fun World, which I believe will be the kids area near Psyke Underground. This will also get a brand new kiddie coaster for 2019. This is all part of the park's €100m 5 year investment strategy, which started this year. It originally stated that the park's entrance would be revamped for 2019 too but I haven't heard anything on that yet. But watch this space... JoshC.
To celebrate world popcorn day, Walibi are doing a bit of advertising for Popcorn Revenge in Belgian shopping centres... Loving the terrible punny names. I don't think the scenes in the ride will be inspired by those particular IPs (I believe it's more generic). In saying that, who wouldn't love to shoot popcorn in a Walking Dead universe?
JoshC.
4 post solo conversation ahead... The new kiddie coaster has a name... And also a look at the layout and theme... This is of course also opening this year, with a retheme of the kids area 'Playland' to 'Fun World'. On top of, of course, Karma World and Popcorn Revenge... Benin
More substantial than the old Tivoli; always good to have a slightly less embarrassing +1 Shame I'm just not invested in the Popcorn Revenge ride, shall potentially hold off visiting until the Intamin turns up... JoshC.
Popcorn Revenge opened this weekend, and has been getting good reviews: The surrounding area isn't technically finished, with extra touches still being added. The kiddie coaster is completed and due to open this month: The park had originally planned to do up the entrance plaza this year, then their Wild West area next year (including a Mack Twist n Splash and Gerstlauer Sky Fly). The new entrance plaza didn't happen, but will now happen next year. The Wild West area is being delayed for now, and instead a new area with Pulsar, Pskye Underground (Schwarzkopf shuttle launch) and the park's log flume will be themed up; a smaller thing which wasn't meant to happen until 2022/23. JoshC.
I visited Walibi Belgium last week, and honestly, this park is turning into a right little gem.. New Stuff -Popcorn Revenge is absolutely brilliant; up there as one of my favourite dark rides. A ton of fun, great theming and really re-rideable. A bit hidden away and was very quiet despite the park being busy, which is a shame. -The recent rethemes of areas as part of their 100m Euro overhaul are great. Karma World (which has Popcorn Revenge) is great. Fun World is a nice kids area. Exotic World is beautifully themed and really added a different dimension to the park. -The Gerst bobsled in Exotic World, Tiki Waka, is really nice. Not the greatest bobsled in the world, but nicely themed and a perfect fun-for-all ride. Existing stuff -Pulsar, the Mack Supersplash that opened in 2016 (see start of thread), is brilliant. Arguably should be their icon ride right now. Sure, you get soaked at the back, but it's a REALLY fun ride, and I'd love to see more of these. -Challenge of Tutankhamun, their other shooter, is still great and doesn't feel like it's 16 years old.. -The park has a solid rapids and log flume -They have an Vekoma mine train, SLC and a Boomerang, none of which are great. I imagine they're staying for the foreseeable as they're in the park's long-term plans (and the Boomerang has been repainted), but they're okay fillers I guess. Hopefully we can see the back end of them soon-ish though. -Their Vekoma woodie, Weerwolf, is still decent. Much better than Robin Hood at Walibi Holland ever was. I've heard the park aren't considering RMCing it, but after seeing Untamed, who knows what they'll do... So yeah, Walibi Belgium have really gotten their act together. It's great to see them adding new stuff within their constraints and working on the existing park at the same time. Really would recommend people put this on their radars! As for next year, the park will continue with their refurb of the park, redoing the entrance (which isn't awful tbf, but could be better), and the currently not-really-an-area area of Pulsar, their log flume and their Schwarzkopf shuttle launch, Psyké Underground. So an update from the park's fan day... There will be no new stuff next year, wit the entrance area encountering some 'technical delays'. However, the park will celebrate their 45th anniversary and have promised lots of events and such. It's a bit of a shame that there's a delay in their mega-rejuvenation, as a new entrance area would be nice, and parts of the park (especially the Wild West area) need attention. But equally, if feels silly complaining after the past couple of years of investment, and the Intamin goodness coming in 2021..
JoshC.
Groundwork is ongoing for next year's Intamin mega (images from RTL-TVI)... There's a possibility that not all of this land will be used for the Intamin, and instead that some of it will help open up the Western World area to introduce some of the new rides that had been previously mentioned (Twist n Splash and Gerstlauer Sky Fly). The owners of the Walibi group (and also Parc Asterix and Bellewaerde) Compagnie des Alpes have said that the coronavirus outbreak will inevitably affect their future plans, but (unsurprisingly) anything where contracts had been signed will still go ahead as planned as much as possible. As such, the Intamin mega should still go ahead for 2021. Any investments in any of their parks for 2020 are still happening. There's been no word either way, but it's expected that Asterix's launch coaster will still happen in 2022.
JoshC.
If you've been missing random coaster construction updates as of late, Walibi Belgium have you covered... Images from Themeparkmagic and ameworld It's also good to see that in a time where Phantasialand are no longer building walls, other parks round the world are picking up the slack.. Matt 236
No pun intended then when you say it’s covered? It’s great to see parks still going ahead with projects despite the potential backlog in years to come.
