ashleyrose-66
...Causes Daily Mail to run with an overly dramatic headline and horror stories, mostly lifted from Twitter. A power cut in the local area (not just the site) caused rides to cease at Chessington today, which led the staff to execute their well rehearsed evacuation plans. All guests were freed from rides within 30 minutes. Naturally, The Daily Fail have reported that it was almost an apocolypse and that Chessington had "no contingency plans in place". http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5795863/Chessington-World-Adventures-power-cut-leaves-parents-enraged.html It seems to me in reality, that they handled the situation very well. The power cut was outside of their control and they are offering tickets for people to return at a later date.
yeah
And of course everyone on Twitter is blaming Chessie somehow...
08newmanb
It's like a national park wildfire, all over again!
pluk
Not sure why this is being discussed 9 months after it happened? Power cuts happen, not much anyone can do about it. ?♂️ Ringo

One of the biggest comments was "have backup generators" which is silly to invest millions in loud, unenvironmentally friendly and extremely polluting diesel generators for an event that rarely occurs and isn't needed. If power is lost halfway through a ride I presume the parks have thought about something as obvious as this happening and have plans in place to get people off the rides and give them refunds if the outages lasts long enough (thinking back to the 3/4 times it happened at Thorpe last year - they need a new electricity supplier or something). I agree, like a hydro powered supply. Take this for instance... Or maybe this... Would you agree?
Stuntman707
The parks have multiple power suppliers, I guess to spread the load on the grid. The whole park isn't affected during a power cut. Making theme parks off the grid is not a viable idea and is of little benefit. SteveJ
MattyMoo
The best solution to this is to roll out on all rides the system they were trialling on Living Dead The Ride where screams are turned into energy, obviously. Simple innit. Ringo
