electricBlll
Whether or not other coasters use the vertically dropping track is down to what type of ride the park want to install. I am sure it isn't exclusive to Alton Towers, and the technology may even be developed more for use on models other than the family type. holtjammy16
I hope one day one get's built somewhere with a bigger vertical drop.I was actually quite dissapointed in th13teen, it lacks any force around the layout and certainly doesn't live up to it's advertisements as a 'phsycoaster' and what not. You'd Better not go alone
JoshC.
According to Mr Wardley, the drop height and time was suffice for it to be exciting, shocking and fun for everyone. Any longer and it would have become bland; any shorter and not worthwhile. Haven't experienced it for myself, so cannot say.
James6
Meh, I think the drop is certainly big enough. However sometimes what happens is the "fake" drop is too big and therefore the main drop is smaller than usual, making it less forceful.I still think it's an epic ride element though
park guy
Sorry to change the subject, but does anyone know why there is still scaffolding on station building, or is that part of the theming?
Benin
Sorry to change the subject, but does anyone know why there is still scaffolding on station building, or is that part of the theming? It's theming... Though not very well presented theming...The basic idea is that it's under restoration much like Hex... Unfortunately that's about as complex as the story gets... (I.e. there is no story)
park guy
Thanks. I don't like it, makes the ride look incomplete in my opninon.
Mark9
Thanks. I don't like it, makes the ride look incomplete in my opninon.I agree. When I first rode I genuinely thought they still had work to do on it. If they had worked harder on the story then maybe it wouldn't give that impression but as it stands it does look half finished. If that wasn't there it would be so much better...
AdamY
I also heard many people saying "look, it's not finished" when I went on the ride in June.
JoshC.
Not 100%, but I heard from reports of the Th13teen evening that the inside of the crypt was well themed to the restoration idea; with shovels and helmets and stuff scattered across - just that you're oblivious to it.Someone who was actually at the event should be able to confirm this though? AstroDan
I'll be honest - it was pretty much the most depressing day I had ever had at Alton Towers on opening day, this year. I got off Th13teen and was really, really dissapointed with it. However, as time has passed at least I know what to expect now. In the scheme of rollercoasters, it's an average, mildly thrilling coaster. Pegasus at Europa-Park is better on the outdoor section but at least Th13teen has it's trick.Other major family coasters though, such as Expedition Everest or Colorado Adventure are much better. Benin
Ok, having done this tonight twice at night (front and back), I've now decided that it is so made to be ridden at night in the pitch black... It makes the outdoor section a lot better and improves the atmosphere in the queue ten-fold...I was very suprised by it at night, completely different to normal daytime...The addition of actors amused, and will be covered elsewhere... Topsyturvy15
I like this ride but the scariest bit was the shock machine in the queue, who else almost jumped out of their skin because of this?
Rich
If you mean The Van de Graaff generator they are awesomeeee! Topsyturvy15
Topsyturvy15
Yeah that, was no way expecting that at the beginning, is it a real or simulated machine? Would it kill you to be in there with it?

Would it kill you to be in there with it?It's real...And yes, considering it's several hundreds of volts coursing around there, I'd imagine if you were inside the cage you would become "Deep Fried" so to speak...And it's amazing... electricBlll
It is a tesla coil. And, I agree, it is a fun little effect that leaves a lasting impression on riders in the queue! Hopefully it will last very long as well, although being quite complicated it might need a lot of maintenance now and then.
Whiteknuckle
I have to admit it made me jump. I was right by it when it went off Do the 2 in G-Force's station building at Drayton Manor still work, because I have'nt seen them go of the last few visits now. AstroDan
The two in G-Force's queue at DMP have not worked in several years now.
th13teen
I noticed the countdown happend more frequently during the fireworks meaning most people got to see the tesil coil going rather than at the begining of the season where you were not even sure if it was ever going to go. I like the tesil coil but it does not have a great impact becase the electric only goes to a tiny percentage of the wall! I think alton only have to put a few cuts in the scaffolding to make it look part of the theming plus make it look dirty! How hard it that?
Benin
^Ok what?Firstly, the coil wasn't working at the start of the season, so it was never gonna go...Second, how does it not make an impact? In that room it just makes so much noise and effort it makes everyone go "OMGWTFBBQ!"
MikeyT
From what I remember, the coil did work briefly at the start of season before it went offline for a while, in which time they made some modifications to it. Can't remember exactly what happened unfortunately... wasn't it something along the lines of it being too high a voltage?
James6
I think it was probably to strengthen the queue fences surrounding the "cage" , I remember even on opening day the closest one to it had already been knocked out. Such an epic effect though.
