I'm gonna throw in another curveball and say I really didn't enjoy this ride. I don't understand where all the space went, where all the money went (other than the headsets), or how it's supposedly groundbreaking  I get that it's a combination of things that haven't come together before, but none of them are particularly special

An absolute groundbreaking (albeit invisible) ride system. Simworx have really pushed the boat out here (they're the true stars of the attraction) and the genius lies in the fact you have no idea how complicated it is.

This will always be an attraction that divides opinions - and it's a shame the real complex stuff is hidden.

Why can't they just open the ride now they're letting a select handful of people on? How much testing and tweaking do they need to do? I appreciate they don't want to rush things but at the same time, they must be getting to a point now where they're just nitpicking.

Staff training. And actor training with small audiences.

  3. If you're an annual pass holder it's worth getting the one for the year.

However, you get the pass and when you want your ride photo you offer them the card and they scan it. You then get the (terrible) app and put the pass code in and all your photos will appear there. Or you go to the website and put the code in and you view the photos that way.

People seem to assume the reason this is delayed is because of some unfortunate fate that was totally out of their control. It isn't, it's just standard project mismanagement and flaws in design, like all the other recent projects. It's sad because a lot of people would have worked very hard indeed on this attraction, who will probably be highly stressed at this point, and yet again it has been mismanaged.

How do you know this? Have Thorpe park given the reason?

We don't know the scenario... it could be an external H&S visit that's delayed it, it could be Derren's decided to re-write or re-craft a certain scene, it could be they wanted to add a new element last minute, it could be they've had to re-cast and re-rehearse, it could be the costumes were delayed...

Every single choice affects all other departments.  If a ride movement choice is made, that affects the show control software, which affects the actors' choices, which affects the throughput, which affects operations, etc etc.

Coming from the theatre industry - I know how this works - as this is not a ride, it's a theatrical experience and is certainly being treated as one.   This isn't just a case of a ride moving in a building.

Interestingly, this article on the Financial Times says that Ghost Train cost £13m...  https://next.ft.com/content/c1eac800-12e5-11e6-839f-2922947098f0

Since we've had the "largest investment ever made" talk for ages, I'd assume this is a mistake and the number was either misheard (£30m) or a typo (£23m?)

Can you copy and paste the article, please?  It's subscription based...

A look at the press release on Thorpe's website reveals that the reasoning for choosing 1871 as the year is because Derren was born in 1971, and by rolling back 100 years, they reached a a Victorian year.

    Also...

The use of the word "seems" is very striking to me.  Obviously we know there's more to this than meets the eye, and that grand illusion plays a part.  However, the photos from yesterday do make it seem very bare inside.  So, wild speculation suggests that we will board the train in an abandoned warehouse, have some different dimension VR stuff happen, then leave the train in the same physical area, but completely new surroundings?  Would be a very awesome affect if so!

Yes. Would be an awesome effect, too! :)

    Very excited about this!
