Mark9 Posted October 19, 2010 Report Share Posted October 19, 2010 A Halloween special for everyone, vote here on what you think of Chessington's classic Transylvanian rollercoaster.Open for it's 20th season, the Vampire has been thrilling riders since 1990 in either bat themed cars or leg danging carriages. It's seen an extensive refurb and was Tussauds real start into stunning rollercoaster designs. Through Vampire John Wardley learnt many lessons that he would incorporate into Nemesis, Oblivion, Megafobia, Air, Dragons Fury and Th13teen.Vampire's legacy is well known in enthusiast circles.. but just how good is the ride? Benin Posted October 19, 2010 Report Share Posted October 19, 2010 Vampire was my first ever coaster so holds a very soft spot in my heart...It is certainly one of the best family rides I have been on, and currently is the best Suspended Swinging coaster in the world (due to the sad demise of Big Bad Wolf and Eagle's Fortress)...The theming within the station obviously diminished (as with many things) during the refurb, but it certainly still has a great piece of atmosphere, what with the epic music (one of the best pieces Tussauds ever did) and the ramp leading down towards the organist...Whilst the ride isn't one of the best layouts or to many doesn't seem to do much at any speed, it does take you around the area and after the second lift hill has three great pieces of action, diving into the main area of Translyvania, the tunnel, and the s-bends into the brakes... It certainly encompasses everything Tussauds put into their coasters at the time, loads of places to view it from, interaction with everything, great theming... Unfortunately, the lack of theming compared to the bat car years does indeed sap something out of it, what with the purple fences and the old entrance standing there un-used, maybe one day they'll find a way of using it again and improving the look of it all...20 years old and is the more famous coaster at Chessie, and certainly has several people smiling afterwards... Cornflakes Posted October 19, 2010 Report Share Posted October 19, 2010 From a familys point of view, it's excellent, but I think it's more than that, it's something special, it was one if my first rollercoasters, but sadly ive only ridden it in it's current form, which, from what I've heard, isn't as special, but it still has a soft spot in my heart, I only rated it good on the poll, but that is only judging the ride itself, but it's just the magic feeling I get from riding it that makes it special. I think it's good practically too because thrill seekers like it and also it's a good beginner suspended coaster for anyone not big enough for the rides at Thorpe and Alton Towers AKA Nemesis and Nemesis Inferno.I will be riding it in the dark for the first time this friday, and pretty excited, to be honest.Also it beats the 2 suspended coasters I went on in the states, Flight Deck at Kings Island and Iron Dragon at Cedar Point. Posted October 19, 2010 Report Share Posted October 19, 2010 It's a great attraction - the music is great, the theming is fabulous (I get a chill seeing the organist move still!) and, for what it is, the layout is very good too.But for some reason, the cynic inside me is saying I shouldn't say it's excellent?! Jord Posted October 20, 2010 Report Share Posted October 20, 2010 This was actually the first rollercoaster I dared go on where I had to dangle my legs. And I was surprised about how much punch it could actually kick for a family coaster, so I do actually love this ride because it's just one of those rides where you didn't expect it to be as good as it was. Well I would say it was the first I had to dangle my legs because Air you lock your legs into the ride so don't really "dangle" them!
