My First Year at University

First off, I understand that the Blogs feature was introduced with the intention of Trip Reports going here, but I'm still going to continue these sorts of blog entries here and in my other blog from time-to-time (if that's okay of course!) Anyways, as most will know - or have worked out - I'm a university student, and I've just finished my first year (woo!). I decided just to do a quick entry just going through what it's been like, the ups and the downs and such, and just give a small insi

The Official Thorpe Park Opening Meet 2013

Right I've finished my project at work so FINALLY I can give you PART 1 of 5 of the trip report. Kudos To Phill to keep it going whilst I have been busy! There was too much choice regarding photos this time around to narrow it down to 50, which made it very difficult to choose the best one's for the TPM Adventurers story! So I hope we got a few of the best. Sorry for those I may not have included but I have tried my best. So let us begin - what will we find out in the first part of the open m

The Official TPM London Trip 2013

Hello all, here is my picture story of what happened on the lovely day in London - It was a briliant day and here it is in pictures Part 1 of 5 At the beginning of the day, the group has these wonderful glasses on ready for the London Eye Experience (Talk about first impressions) As the experience with the seagulls has finished Mark9 looks like he has some serious doubts coming onto the London eye! Dan9 thought it would be a good idea to scare Turtle. Because of this Mer thought sh

Smile. Always. 16/06/13

Yesterday (16/06/13) was my annual trip to the wonderful place that is Alton Towers. The past few weeks I had been quite worried in hearing that Smiler had kept breaking down, stalling and so on. Luckily, we not only got one chance to smile, but we got two! The park yesterday was fairly quiet with queues ranging from 10-40 minutes for the main coasters with Smiler being between 80 and 120 minutes all day. Everything was working except Oblivion and Enterprise. We had lovely weather all day, not

New Pass, New Year!

Today I went to Thorpe for the afternoon mainly to get my new pass for my trip to Towers on Sunday but also to explore what the park has to offer for kids as they try to shift their target market to include families. New pass, check. Drinks capsule, check. And away we go! Flying Fish is always a good start for your family adventure. Storm Surge is always good for families, and well liked. Why I don't know but the customer is always right. Look! Another family coaster and it seems pop

It's like a fairytale or something... In Bruges - Day 3 - Bagatelle

Day 3 – Parc Bagatelle A very early morning led to the 2 hour drive across half of two separate countries towards the seaside of France towards Bagatelle. This is rather a small park, but recently nabbed a Vekoma Invertigo last year, and was once infamous for having a scary as hell Lion show which is now gone. We arrived at the park to be greeted by a long queue, as out of the 4 cashier desks they had 1 open. And the queue barely moved due to large groups and numerous vouchers. This annoyed

It's like a fairytale or something... In Bruges - Day 2 - Bellewaerde

Day 2 – Bellewaerde Park Time for coasters! And with a brand new one it was time to head along to Belle, via several country roads and an awful diversion, we eventually arrived at the destination (N.B. There is an easier route to take to get to the park we discovered on our way back, blergh)… Formerly a safari park, this place certainly shares similarities with both Chessington and Flamingoland, but let’s not set our hopes too low, and go and ride the first coaster of the day (in order t

It's like a fairytale or something... In Bruges - Day 1 - Bruges

Day 1 – Bruges An early Friday morning greeted us as my car was packed and we set off for the Channel Tunnel, before long however we had reached Calais and the drive to Bruges through 20 million sets of road-works began. About 2 hours after our arrival in Calais, we had arrived at our hotel, on the outskirts of the ‘Old Town’ of Bruges. A quick note about the hotel, it is pretty fab… Not in the way of being amazing, it’s just extremely nice, with great people running it who are very helpful an

My TPM TPMM- 25/05/13

Before we start the fun, the boring stuff must be dealt with. Firstly, I don't own any of these photos, they are all from other people who attended. Secondly, this report is an account of my day so the photos are of me, therefore, if you don't like looking at my lovely face stop reading now It was a sunny morning as a day of fun at Thorpe was to be had! The day started with a lovely climb up Volcano Inferno. But at the top I was shocked to hear that this may be better than Nemesis! So

Smiles and snake pits - 05/06/13

Disclaimer: New ride spoilers and large amounts of hype-generation ahead. On Wednesday myself, Tommy and Turtle ventured to Alton Towers attempting to experience Marmalisation for ourselves. After sadly missing the Moo-norail, we got the Splash monorail to the entrance where there was no major knowledge as to whether The Smiler would be open. For context, on the previous day it had stalled during testing and been closed all day along with the rest of X-Sector due to crane needs... SMILE ALW

Only Teardrops in Denmark - Day 6 - Djurs Sommerland

Day 6 - Djurs Sommerland After a long rainy drive to Aarhus the day after was nice and sunny for our next venture into the middle of nowhere for a theme park. Djurs seemed to be a 'true' theme park in comparison to the parks so far, so I was intrigued to see how they would go with it. We arrived into the rather empty car park and ventured to the gates. The park opened, and we ventured to the nearest coaster, and a highly rated one to boot, that of Piraten. Apparently the worst Mega-

Only Teardrops in Denmark - Day 7 - Legoland Billund

Day 7 – Legoland Billund Now here was an interesting one, the Merlin park of the group, a park that is usually a burden to visit in the UK, how would the original fare? Would it be smothered in adverts? Would it be full of low throughput rides? Would we hate it for being part of a massive corporate entity? Answers are found and more… After once again navigating the emptiness of Denmark and a surprise car park appearing out of nowhere (next door to Billund’s own airport) we had arrived and awai

Only Teardrops in Denmark - Day 8 - Farup Sommerland

Day 8 – Farup Sommerland And so the final day, we packed up and departed Aarhus northwards. We eventually arrived after more venturing through country roads and paid upon arrival in the car (which took us all by surprise, fortunately we were prepared for this) and ended up in the car park, which strangely sits in the middle of the park, allowing for some good views of the two main coasters. Our first destination was Lynet, the Gerstlauer launched, to which I was excited for because Anu

Only Teardrops in Denmark - Day 3 - Bon Bon Land

Day 3 – Bon Bon Land A park that is relatively infamous and well known from a certain American coaster site, Bon Bon Land is essentially famous for being silly. With farting dogs, defecating seagulls and various other creatures doing random stuff; it’s a park I’ve been interested to visit to see what the hype is all about. So we hopped into the Nissan of Narcissism and directed by Cassandra the Sat-Nav and were taken off the motorway into the middle of nowhere, a theme certainly to be followed

Only Teardrops in Denmark - Day 4a - Carlsberg Brewery

Day 4a – Carlsberg Brewery Today was a day split between culture (or as cultured as you can get when visiting a Brewery) and coasters. As Bakken didn’t open until 2pm (closing at 11pm), during my research of things to do in Copenhagen I came across the Carlsberg Brewery Tour, and needless to say it didn’t take much convincing of people to partake in the 70DKK tour. In order to get there however, we had to brave the local transport. As we right by the train station this was simple, and we walke

Only Teardrops in Denmark - Day 4b - Bakken

Day 4b – Bakken After a morning of alcohol we returned to the car and ventured off to Bakken, the world’s oldest amusement park. Set within an old hunting ground the woodland setting is quite nice, although the layout of the car park is little to be desired. We went in, purchased our wristbands and found a place to eat whilst we waited for Tornado to open at 2. It did, and we were ready to experience the World’s first (and only) Intamin Spinning Coaster. Tornado is a very fast spinning
