I have never said or made it my opinion that I hate the smiler, I hate the way people reacted to my comments, I expressed an opinion on what I felt as did others and when we express our opinions were nit picked at by the same couple of users which I actually found to be rather liker bullying to be honest, yes people have the right to there opinion, it doesn't mean you have to be an ass and smart mouth and pick away at everything they've said just because you don't agree but that's there problem. I am actually really excited for the smiler as I've loved the theme, design and advertising so actually I wasn't hating, I was hated on and then I hated that I was hated on ;P Anyways end of discussion, the matter of discussion here should be The Smiler...

I must say I purchased Bo Bruce's record today as I loved her on the voice (she should have won) the album is stunningly beautiful and serene and the songs have beautiful raw composition and soulful meaning and use of lyrics and tone makes it something I really could endlessly listen to!
-
I had exactly the same reaction from exactly the same people when I also previously expressed my opinion that 14 inversions isn't really that bigger deal and not a great worlds first as like others have said anyone can easily come along and beat it, just ignore them, as they say haters gon hate

I'm not being spoilt, what I'm saying is surely they should plan it as they usually do so that the new ride is open for the majority of the season like the UK parks usually do when they have a big roller coaster, they should really have been prepared incase of delays and got on with the work, they've had the closed season and far into the open season now, usually this is all completed relatively close to the start of open season, perhaps there trying a new tactic and trying to open rides like in america :S
-
I do still really find it quite laughable that this ride is taking so dam long to finish still, were getting towards halfway through the season and the ride is still not open. People are adamant that the worlds first is the number of inversions but I'm still holding out for a special element in the indoors section that is the worlds first because frankly it's the only excuse I would accept that the new technology has delayed the ride opening otherwise I find it laughable.

Like pluk said I can't really imagine myself wanting a ride picture from X, it wouldn't be great A) because it's dark so there would be no pre warning signs and despite flash this could affect the quality of the picture, it's still not a good ride even after refurbishment well at least not a key ride that really warrants a picture, imagine your at home showing whoever the picture, "and this ones from X, what's that? A roller coaster in the dark with some lights, oh right, would you really want memories of X? (Don't get me wrong I find the ride good enough as a time eater but it's not something I'd purposefully ride and think it great and C) do you really think a picture from X would be worth the money?

Those were the staff I saw playing golf/bowling with the bottles and litter as they were so bored, I totally agree, a useless waste of time, everyone could tell the ride is closed anyway, and it looked very bad to all the customers passing by.

Went yesterday and found it rather a shambles to be honest! X was closed for further refurbishment- (Yes I know it's a good thing but when added to the list of growing attractions it was annoying) Nemesis Inferno broke in the morning and there was talk of a possible fire as they closed the ride due to smelling smoke apparently Colossus broke down for several hours with people stuck on the lift hill for a long time Slammer broke down Samurai broke down Stealth down time Purchased fast track for Colossus then it broke down, went to guest services and the guy was very kind and gave us two fast track passes for our whole group for 2 rides, we got to use it several times as the staff didn't tear it which was great as with the mounting closed rides the queues were crazy! I brought a refill beaker and half the sodding station were closed, told I could use it in any resturante and half the places told me no! Were having a laugh on tea cups and taking pictures as it's a slow ride staff member told us of for using camera which seemed petty and complained about people for going under the chains and not wandering through the whole queue again petty No pictures right side of swarm No picture on rumba as loaded to quickly Gangs of staff around Nemesis Inferno when closed chatting and playing golf with bottles and litter ¬.¬ Very funny and enthusiastic ride announcer for Lost City Flats Colossus needs a repaint Rumba desperately needs some theming and something done Storm surge is still a leaking eye sore... THE SWARM backwards was actually really amazing and intense, it made it much scarier as you didn't know what was coming and actually worked really well with the theming elements RIDE COUNT: Saw the ride x2 The Swarm x1 Brave it backwards x1 Slammer x1 Stealth x1 Rumba Rapids x2 Rush x2 Tea cups x1 Loggers leap x1 Colossus x1 Quantum x2

Yesterday was just awful when me and my friends visited, X was closed for refurbishment, Nemesis Inferno closed first thing, Colossus broke down later on, slammer closed, samurai broke down, no right side pictures on swarm, no picture on rumba as loading to quickly! There were gangs of staff hanging around outside the closed rides doing nothing but kicking around bottles/playing bowling/ golf!
-
I spoke to a staff member outside of Nemesis Inferno and asked why X was closed and if it would open, he told me that they were adding portraits, whatever that means? I know what you mean about the paint, there was lots of wooden boards and crates around, so possibly a good sign.

It really isn't a very big thing in my opinion I don't see why such a fuss is made about it because it's something that's so easilly beatable and it's nothing special/unique in my eyes like say Th13teens vertical drop or being different type/make of roller coaster or a new inversion (correct me if I'm wrong), but it's something that's so easily beatable, it may be a title held for a few more years but there were will soon be other coasters come and go in the future with 15,16,17 inversions I'm sure because it's a title that isn't challenging to snatch...
-
I don't really see it as a massive first and world record, it's a record that it constantly growing and constantly being beaten year after year, decade after decade, .it's not something that has a lasting legacy because it can so easilly be beaten and will be beaten in the future, it's like anything else, technology constantly adds more, anything can always be increased, so I'm hoping there is an "element" that gives its worlds first title and not just, look at us we've got more inversions than you....
-
That's not exactly hard
-
This is looking great but I'm still saddened they choose to turn it forwards, backwards in the dark was there thing it was unique, one of there few remaining wolds first/only rides and they've taken that away from it and now what's it left with, some pretty lights and a spruce up, it's like I've waken up in a nightmare world of opposites X goes forwards and Swarm goes backwards now that really is X WTF? lol
-
Why are thorpe park so insistant on this shoddy awful style of map, the layout is all abysmal and dire and incredibly misleading, yes because the crash pads are on there own little island and the only way to get to that island is a bridge from the main bridge.... nice lodgic Thorpe....
-
What about about a flat/water ride like a Huss Delirium or a topple tower?
-
I completely agree I look at it now and think wtf was I on drugs or something? I suppose I was young a naive and now I'm synical snidey adult, or perhaps it's because after season 2 it became total garbage! I can't stand it now and when I see it I can't even remember when or why I liked it.

The price aren't to bad true but to suggest that the UK parks are better in terms of theming and atmosphere than American parks or parks elsewhere in the world to me seems silly, American parks have astounding rides that are incredibly themed and atmospheric, Jurassic Park river ride, The Mummy ride, the immersions in there halloween events are far superior to the likes of what we get at UK parks. I still feel that having the top three parks owned by the same company is disadvantageous, because whilst you say they are in competition they are not really, Chessington focuses on one half of the market whilst Thorpe focuses on the other and that just doesn't work, families want to go to theme parks but then they end up paying so much to get in when some can't/don't want to go on anything which works vice versa the olders kids and adults get fed up of the family rides at chessie and theres nothing at thorpe for families to ride anymore. It seems sad that these parks are careful to step on one anothers toes which alienates there audiences whilst Alton remains "the best" if you will because it can offer family and thrill rides unlike the other two parks whereas the other parks for me have better theming in some respects.

I was just wondering how everyone else feels about the current state of the theme park industry in the UK? My thoughts are that with the majority of theme parks and attractions including the top 3 theme parks in the UK there is a distinct lack of competition in the UK's theme park industry that would find in other countries say for example in Europe or America, I feel like if they were under different ownership things would be much better for theme park industry in the country as currently in honesty I am not entirely satisfied with how they have run the three parks, the key points that make me feel it would be better for the countries theme park industry if the parks were under different ownership are: 1: Lack of competition- This is the key point of mine, the parks have to work around one another, for example Thorpe and Chessington especially are wary to step on one another's toes in terms of market and appeal, Thorpe has been forced to only cater for the thrills market and Chessington being forced to stay in the family market, this means that the parks unlike other parks in other countries which cater for all are limiting there audiences which affects attendance and investment. 2- Investment- With owning the top theme parks in the UK investing in the three theme parks has to work if you would on a rota system, (granted the investments are to a high standard generally and with roller coasters expensive, it seems like Chessington is always left in the background and forced to take a back seat after the major investment of Wild Asia funding and attention just seemed to fade away, I can't help but think were the parks owned by different owners there would be more funding for investment and there wouldn't be this rota system creating quiet periods and diverting attention. The recent news of a possible Paramount Park in Kent had me ecstatic at the prospect of a different well known, top quality theme park company creating a park in the UK as I thought perhaps this would force Merlins hand to work harder for our attention from the competition. On a side note some of the investments seems lazy, whats with coasters having to always have THE infront of them, or starting with S, or having the same boring grey/black colour scheme, or using shipping containers and the same materials for every recent coaster, it makes them look like they have no new ideas and puts me of. How do you feel about the current state of UK theme park industry?
-
I can't remember where it was but there was a quote from an interview or question in this topic I believe somewhere where the park stated that they would not turn around the seats of the swarm because it would ruin the effects and theming aspects of the ride
-
I wouldn't get to excited it could be more than likely that they've just purchased one of these http://www.flatrides.com/Ride%20Index%20Pages/scorpion.html fits the clues, a scorpion ride, literally

2013: HIVE: A lying down facing the ground drop tower, themed to the remain of a public house, the aliens are gathering humans in this building, picking them up and dropping them down into... the HIVE! A worlds first ride that opens to critical acclaims just outside the entrance of the swarm island. Detonator is removed from the park. 2014: X No Way Out is rethemed this year to a computer that generates music, the computer has become out of control testing music on subjects with faster and harder beats that have caused the subjects to be subjected to such vigorous movements that they are torn apart. The ride is sponsered by ministry of sound who provide the music and with some minor promotion on televisions and logos dotted around, the queueline recieves an updated spooky theme and tv's with ads, inside the ride features neon glowing and laser light effects with blasting music. 2015: Wicca: A new indoor roller coaster opens on one of the islands thats a worlds first. The roller coaster is a Mack Launched roller coaster that is inside of a mountain/cavern themed building, the ride features a pre launch section where the witches are shown conjuring and plotting against the residents who's ancestors burnt them. The ride then launches performing a zero-g roll through a pentacle, they then travel passing an area with craved glowing words and symbols and chanting and screeching/screaming, then they perform an s-bend passing a troll and a demon, performing bunny hops through an area of skeletons, bodies and spinning demonic heads, the ride climbs and comes to a hault, two large evil witches are revealed either side rapidly and finally the third witch as the track then begins rotating whilst the platform it is on drops veritcally 30ft with thunderous effects. The track then stops in pitch black for 10 seconds footsteps are heard and zombie figures are illuminated, the ride then launches again perfoming a overbanked turn over the zombie figures, the ride then travels passing an executioner chopping of a figures head, the ride performs two air time hills passing a house set scene with a father hanging, a mother cooking someone in the oven and the daughter with a mask standing with a knife, they next pass scary stone statues, the ride then performs a spiralling helix surounding a serenade of dancing clothed skeletons and corpses the clocks strikes and the lights go out as the ride stops, the clock strikes again and the lights flash revealing a cloaked figure, then strikes again and the lights flash revealing dracule above the riders, then strikes again and the lights run red as the car travels forward and turns into the exit station. Exiting the ride they enter a pitch black room, where the witches are revealed with black running eyes and the room glows with the craved phrase, "Wicked Witches Revenge", as a tribute to the forgotten ride burnt down in the fire. Future plans (which I may add to at a later time when able) Wooden Roller coaster on another island Themed Hotel Retheme for Ranger County Couple of new family friendly rides Improvements on Rumba Rapids

Can a Coaster in the UK be the 'Next Nemesis'?
ste193 commented on JoshC.'s blog entry in The C. View
I don't think there can be a "Nemesis" If you will because rides elsewhere in the world and theme parks for that matter around the world are far superior, untill the big names like Chessington, Thorpe and Alton are all pitted against one another and are owned by seperate parties who are desperate to steal the others parks thunder, there won't be that level of competitive behaviour that sparks to parks to radically improve what they produce and make a world class/recognised ride again, Nemesis being the only one at present we have produced.
