  1. These things are true, but if Chessington aren't opening more because of the weather there are plenty of duplicates (whole of wild asia, tugboat, elephants) that show it can be done. BPPB also open full scale complex rides in harsh conditions. Although I think Chessington are just not opening more because they don't want the risk of staffing it all up only to be snowed off and making a big loss. As I said yesterday, I'm rarely on the side of the moron and yes, it is clear to me with my average common sense what a 'zoo day' would be. But the shear volume of people getting disappointed surely means communication to the masses from the park is falling down somewhere?
  2. That might be the case, but if as many people as have been don't grasp this the park are obviously doing a bad job of telling people what they are going to get. I can't really have an opinion as I haven't been, but is it absolutely explicit before entrance that HPH and BubbleWorks is all you are getting with the zoo? I could easily believe it isn't. Also, Adventure Island had every single ride they have open yesterday in the snow.
  3. Took a little trip into Southend yesterday and was pleased to find the whole of this little park was open, busy, and miraculously able to operate in the freezing cold weather too! I only had time for a couple of rides, but they were both firsts for me: - A rollercoaster in the snow! OK, only a small flurry but still a first for me. It was Rage, of course, which I thought was noticeably less smooth than last year. Whether that was due to the weather or actual ageing I won't know until the summer, but the whole structure visibly moves more than I remember as each car passes through. Still love it though. - Time Machine! It is fantastic, even faster than it looks in those vids and such an unusual feeling, especially as it turns you into the floor facing position. Even though it rises up the forces is puts on you feel absolutely constant rather than the peaks and troughs of g's you usually feel on lifting spinning rides. By the end I couldn't feel my feet and was quite light headed, needing a few minutes on a bench to recover and be able to walk properly. For Mrs pluk this was all a bit too much and she vowed never to get on it again, but these extreme things are what I crave. It is amazing that AI have come up with this from concept to realisation and they should be applauded for it. I will return for more. Also noticed some small works going on behind the whip, which looked like it might be the relocation of the strange tracked boat ride which used to go under the pier, and some big works where they have removed the massive wooden boat that has stood by the pier for as long as I can remember and I think used to house a waxworks walk-through type thing. This has opened up a rather huge plot of land for such a small park, I wonder what it is going to be used for?
  4. Some people thrive on the attention and drama of it all. I don't get it, I'd rather be dull and happy, but each to their own.

I'd say no, not based on the movement of the car (which leaving the station does look a little launch like), but based on the middle of the track looking very much like a chain to me. The rest of the track is black in the centre, the track coming out of the station and up the non vertical lift hill has silver stripes, like a chain could look if you draw it.

    The Smiler

Looks a lot like a chain lift on the non vertical lift hill. But is that last sequence showing some sort of acceleration? Not too sure where in the ride that is, but towards the vertical lift hill I think? Also, the point of the game seems to be to 'achieve' the inversions, this has to be the rides main point then? Listed to 'buy' are 'indoor heartline', 'inverted drop', 'batwingx2' and 'camelback to inline'.

Well, yes. It would be at least 12 if they want that record, as 11 is opening soon. If they go for thirteen they're really going to regret the naming of their last SW!

    The Smiler

Pretty sure this will be a few more inversions to nudge beyond that record, as has been rumoured from the off. Along with the launch, fingers crossed.
  9. Says the guy who asks a question on here every 5 minutes coz he hasn't read the website... (jk, don't get upset ) I kind of understand it, people thinking open is open or closed is closed and not expecting something in between. As much as I'm rarely on the side of morons Chessington obviously need to make the deal a bit clearer if that many people are mistaken.
  10. In static - the ride, how is this possible?!! I like the idea of zoo days with a few rides thrown in, but don't think it includes quite enough to work properly at the moment, to be entirely worthwhile. Especially when it comes to half term. Not sure what exactly should be added to the line up, but defiantly should be what works geographically and obviously with maintenance schedules. RMT and jumbos seem like obvious ones to me, along with seastorm.

With entirely unrestricted free movement between them. You can't compel someone to go there and stay there! Also, Scotland and Wales will be surprised to find they are islands.

Hey you three friends, you stay in here sleeping on top of each other, I'm going about 2ft away on the other side of that thin slightly opaque screen for a dump. Enjoy. It's still a no from me.

I think when Alton Towers likes it it might be legit and not a bored fan boy. Until then, nah.

A somewhat clearer version. Lapbars ahoy!
  17. Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you are saying here, maybe I'm being a bit thick? The list is a top 10 of currently operating rides listed by their drop in order of steepness, not a list of previous record holders. Those that did not hold the record at time of opening have an N/A, those that that did have dates it held the record for. If, for example,The Smiler had a drop of 120 degrees it would slip into the second spot with an N/A, having never held the record. Saw never held the record. Not that it is a real record in my book anyway. The first coaster with a vertical loop took every angle record!!!
  18. I agree with pretty much all of your say here, but That N/A there shows it never was a record breaker for that drop, even though I'm quite sure at the time Thorpe did try and make the claim. In fact I think that is how Mingo came up with 'Mumbo Jumbo', as a dig at others claiming world records when theirs actually was one.
  19. Never a truer word spoken. That half arsed attempt at an animatronic is an embarrassment, would genuinely be better to spend that time in complete darkness with just the voice. I don't understand how something so poor can get signed off as acceptable in the first place. I enjoy the ride itself and think it probably gets a bit too much stick from enthusiasts, but a lot of the theming from concept to execution is simply not good enough.
  20. I don't want to sound just negative on everything, but that image looks a right old mess to me on the right, I don't really get what it is trying to tell me. Does look though to be a sign of how this will actually work. If the image is based in reality the actual chassis and shell of the train is going to be spun round so the back two rows of the train will actually face the wrong way rather than just the seats. Which will look odd.
  21. Did they do this on the occasion they screwed it all up? If not it seems like a good simple solution to ensure they don't get uncontrollably mobbed again. Should be a great day for all you lucky AP holders who don't love their Mums. EDIT Really? It would have taken literally two clicks from the link Marc gave to find

  23. The story goes CPS insisted PC Peach complete a statement for an upcoming court case and despite being told numerous times that PC Peach was in fact PD Peach they were adamant they needed a statement...

    The Crash Pad

They have done a good job of making it fit in with the existing bridge, I'll give them that. But... The entrance and bridge have been derided for years for being inadequate, drab and hardly a fitting gateway to a magical place, which I think I'm right in saying Thorpe have made no secret of their desire to improve and upgrade at some time. Then instead of using this is a opportunity to actually carry out those improvements they 'theme' more stuff to the same horrid and outdated scheme. Hilarious.
