I'll believe that when I see it... Even though Hansa tends to have lots of things happen on lift hills (Fluch stops halfway up to have a man shout at you for example, something not seen anywhere else)...
Believe it....
the video is german but go to 2 mins and there you go

According to sources on facebook as well as people on media day this ride has
a reverse freefall on the lift hill...
which is something that was long rumoured on smiler but never happened so could this actually be true,
a 200ft reverse freefall on a lift hill would make me poo myself to say the least...

Very sad news, BBC news has confirmed along with her lawyers that Vicky Balch has had her leg amputated below the knee. I hope she gets the best treatment possible and make as swift a recovery as she can, poor soul

That's because it is
Baron is 98ft tall with a 123ft drop
Krake is 135ft tall as is its drop.
Hope that helps
Either way this attraction is beautiful and I cant wait to see it some day

Something minor, but they have added LED lights on Blue fire, so it should look fab at night
-

Oh look here is another news story about an Alton towers breakdown that was blown out of proportion!! I knew this would become a regular thing....
-
-
Several minutes..... Major facepalm... I can just see a new Alton towers news story every week now for the rest of the season with stories 10 minute breakdowns, its actually pathetic! An insult to the actual incident which is the only one that should be shown on the news...
-
Whilst what you said here is true, they didn't change the name for quite a few years as I rode it years after the accident but it was still called Hydro!
^ And Ian, you're telling her not to "dwell on it", but you try losing half a leg. I don't think you'll want to brush it off just like you're saying.
Tbh I still call it Hydro now lol but I think the rename was more of the new company not wanting the negative aspect of the name but yeah I get what you are saying
-
It really is horrible that she's now got a completely life changing injury
I really don't think the smiler should or will get closed permanently though, hydro's still open and that killed a girl
While this is True, it is now called Drenched so they have changed its name to get rid of the original name's negative connotation, it wouldn't surprise me if they do the same with The Smiler but something more substantial that includes new themeing also. I don't think it will close, even my mum who is a stickler for Health and safety and is scared of coasters herself said it would be weird and a bit silly tearing it down as they would lose so much money, and they could just improve safety with updated trains and what not. Its dreadful to hear about this girl and I hope Merlin Pay out respectfully and give this girl 110% support and care she will most definitely needs. I prey her life will still be prosperous, and that she still can live her life to the full, poor, poor girl

I can already see journalists planning to get in tomorrow to see if they can take some snaps of smiler, if Alton Towers were wise they would start the barrier from spinball. But I'm glad they can open again. I assume that Sonic is closed for the same reason as Rattlesnake and Dragon's Fury and will be closed until they have trained all staff with new safety protocols so I assume it won't be closed for too much longer
-
Supposedly Sonic Spinball will stay closed (doesn't surprise me with Dragons Fury closed) as well and there will be no ERT tomorrow according to Alton Towers FAQ page.
-
Alton towers opens tomorrow!
Here is a statement from their facebook page:
Alton Towers Theme Park will re-open at 10am tomorrow, Monday 8th June 2015.
Due to the ongoing investigation into the incident on The Smiler last Tuesday, X-Sector will remain closed until further notice.
For more information please visit the FAQ page below
Lets hope people support the park, when they open as Merlin have handled this impeccably and I think people should support that

"The two additional rollercoaster rides taken out of service are both at Chessington - Dragon's Fury and Rattlesnake."
This has really crippled Merlin, I'm happy they are making rides a lot safer but this will cripple Chessington as now only 2 coasters out of 4 are open, hopefully they can sort this soon as Merlin will lose a lot of money from this from people wanting refund etc, I am just happy though they are doing their upmost effort to make sure these rides are safe.

Cu Chulainn POV here, I think it does look incredible! Many, many airtime moments, twisty, doesn't lose pace at all by the looks of things and a he man train, best looking woodie in the british isles thats for sure!!

Doesnt say anywhere Speed was closed yesterday, but I can understand why it was if it did.
-
Is there a possiblilty that this ride will be closed for a long time until it is deemed safe by health and safety again like Slammer(although not caused by an incident) and Hydro as I think the best thing for this ride is for it to be closed for a while at least so everyone knows its safe. That video chills me to the bone as they sound so scared, I would scared as hell if I was on there, my thoughts go out to the injured teenagers who were on that ride. I hope their recovery is speedy!
-
This must have caused major stess on that part of the track where it crashed as well. I hope they keep it closed until they 100% know what went wrong and how for it never to happen again.
