  1. Oh I'm not sure about that, Swarms shipping container is a good rival and I think saws is quite poor although does sort of fit in with the theme.
  2. It does have a very high running cost though and will need constant investment to stay a major attraction. While throughput will increase and hopefully the reliability there is no getting around the fact that the headsets, pcs and animation will need replacing every few years. Fortunately for Thorpe the ride seems to be popular and is pulling people through the gates even when the ride itself isn't open. The fundamental question is if it will continue to pull in guests.
  3. Went to the park all of last week. Wonderful rides, very nice looking and the absolute worst operations ive seen. Oh and all the food was pretty poor. Overall I can't say I'm a fan of the park. As for Ferrari land I don't really get it, Baco offers a good launch and Huracan offers a good drop tower so the entire new investment seems odd to me but will no doubt be popular.
  4. That is something that really should have been looked at before building it. Any person who knows about PCs could have told them heat was going to be an issue and it is very disappointing to hear it was over looked. To me it seems like they consulted HTC about he VIVE but didn't think to listen to a PC expert on the thing that runs the VIVE. The damage the heat would have done to the CPU will now be irreversible and the life span of those PCs is now considerably less because cooling was ignored.
  5. The blue pegs are used in surveying. Often during a levelling task to find the height of the terrain. They can be used for marking however normally metal pegs are used for that. I assume that they are finalising measurements for Mack. Having watched a video I am pretty sure the pegs are for a levelling task.
  6. Well Gaming PCs which would be running the Vive often suffer heat issues and the choice to heat the trains cant be helping that. Often server farms are kept very cool and I doubt that each train is being kept at the right temperature. Which would mean each PC would really need water cooling which is expensive and I'm not sure if they would have splashed out the cash on 180 pcs to have decent water cooling.
  7. When it broke down whilst on it the ride host we were talking to was mentioning how it struggles with heat. I know ride hosts are not a reliable source but that is where I got that from.
  8. I know the ride struggles with heat which seems like a bit of a problem but I would have thought that the ride would be able to open without all 3 trains working. Which makes me think that the issue is a rather complex one.
  9. The whole thing is a mish mash of different story lines. Derren goes on about fear, then a floating Victorian train, then a modern train journey with fracking going wrong, then evacuating a train to get run over by a train to then be chased by a monster. Followed by getting back on a modern train to be thrown by a cgi demon to then be told by Derren it's only just beginning. None of it flows, it's all rushed and Derren's involvement seems non existent. No one agrees on the price and to be honest I really don't see this lasting long at all. The actors, the trains, the high number of staff operating, the effects, the rapidly ageing VR. It's either spend a lot to keep it going or let it demise as ridership decreases.

The inside section of sw8 is tiny and on the updated plans was made smaller. I suspect that the inside will contain nothing but maintenance and the station. The under pass of the station seems to be purely for space constraint reasons.
  11. When talking to the ride host yesterday he told us it cost Merlin just under £40m. Not the most reliable source but that's what I was basing that post on.
  12. I can see why people would like it and as you said dark rides do take that risk just unfortunate I had 2 shocking runs.
  13. As it was my first time on it that breakdown ruined it. It spoiled the whole thing and now I don't value the attraction at all. From my view it's £40m down the drain.
  14. Having gone to Thorpe today as part of a network camp I finally rode dbgt, much earlier than expected to be honest. Unfortunately first time the ride stopped at the beginning of the first vr sequence. So the ride skipped the first vr and we were rushed to the actor bit with no introduction to what was going on at all. The ending then looked shocking, some ps1 games have better graphics. Anyway we were then offered to ride again which we did. Unfortunately this time the actors didn't care. They didn't touch anyone and the whole thing was very disappointing. I can't give it more than 3/10 just because the way I experienced it. I wouldn't queue more than 20 minutes for it which is disappointing as it had so much potential.

I think we will just see an minor improvement on Loggers and that will be it. The delays of DBGT will have cost Thorpe money and so there will be less to go around for next year. Maybe there will be a retheme to the whole old town but it wouldn't surprise me if we just saw Loggers reopen and advertised as a new experience.
  16. They may not have footers in the water because of the lake bed is unsuitable soil I believe. 13 is a gimmick with a meh coaster attached. The ride is poor. As for the next coaster I expect it to be family style ride. However very much hoping for a multilaunch or even an RMC by loggers.
  17. The way it's worded does not breach any advertising standard agency regulations. The bubbleworks is closing and will never be the same again. It's like terror of the towers and guardians of the galaxy. Same ride system different theme. Seeing as theme is the majority of a dark ride it seems fine to me to say that the ride is going and is the last chance to see the as it is. That being said I agee Merlin are neglecting the park and don't see the worth the park once had. The retheme is not one I would have had at the top of the list as they need a throughput monster first but it did need doing.
  18. As expected Mean Streak is closing on September 16th with no further news of what's happening afterwards. Most likely getting the RMC treatment but I guess it could just be getting a reprofile and a small update.
  19. I meant it as in they believe the money spent will make money in the boosted gate figures. It's less risky than a brand new ride but will likely result in the same financial benefit.
  20. They are replacing it because they see money is to be made from it. They don't care how confident the designer is, all they see is potential money. Past investments from Merlin are hit and miss and hopefully this will be a hit, but if the past is to go by its a 50:50 chance.
  21. Woodies are cheap to initially build. So a good choice for a park who wants a new big attraction but with put spending the money.
  22. In thorpes defence they did buy VR headsets rather than some outdated mobile phones. Although both are not up to it.
  23. Well vr is never going to be an issue as a whole. Servers and headsets won't all go wrong at once. It may have seats closed off individually or in blocks but never the full train. My issue with the VR is its a bottomless pit of money to keep it working. Just like the rest of the ride. In my opinion it's a bottomless pit which Merlin will have to keep pouring money into or it will close.
  24. A flyer is much heavier than an invert. The trains weight doesn't just have the restraints and seats but also the mechanism to stay in the fly position. I do believe the weight difference is so much that a flyers track has to be a larger gauge so it can deal with the weight. Also for rider comfort on a invert you are forced into the seat whereas a flyer you would be forced into the restraint.
