Phill Pritchard
I am kind of divided on this one, art wise it is definitely a lot nicer to look at than Thorpe's 2010 map but it does look very busy/cluttered.

AstroDan
Ride availabilty over the weekend has been good on everything except for... guess what... Th13teen!The ride ran fine on Saturday but was barely open for much time on Sunday as it kept suffering problems in spite of intensive work from Intamin and Alton Towers over the closed season. Hopefully these problems can be ironed out. It was running three trains, however.Overall - the park was far busier than they expected on Saturday, with some queue's reaching 45 minutes at times (Th13teen's slightly more) but today was a lot quieter, I didn't see a queue longer than 30 minutes. Luke_A
The height restrictions for The Flume have now been put in line with Dragon falls' restriction (1.3M Unaccompanied), as well as Marauders Mayhem (1.2M Unaccompanied). This is obviously Mack's decision (as mentioned before). Just time until Thorpe decide to change theirs for the Teacups and Loggers Leap now. >Source<
Luke_A
Sorry for the double post... But...The Skyride has been down for what's reported for a week or two now, and it is rumoured that the cable from the Towers Street station to Forbidden Valley has reached the end of it's life, so therefore needs replacing. The gondolas are also reported to be not on the cable at the moment. This in turn means that the Skyride may be closed all season as when replacing the cable the supports have to have wooden scaffold things built round them to pull the new cable through attached to the old one. There are people on other forums saying about what other options there are for Alton Towers to do in this situation... should they close Mutiny bay for some time and the area around it?-although I think myself that this would not be a good idea as nobody really has a clear idea on how long it takes to replace the cable. If it is down all season then I wonder why they did not think over closed season "what if it becomes too weak and doesn't pass H&S tests mid-season?" They replaced the one from Forbidden Valley to Dark Forest over the 2009 closed season, so why not do the same if the other is becoming old too over the last closed season. So this is yet another season where the Skyride has major downtime. Ahh well, will just mean more walking through the park when I next visit for Scarefest. ...If they don't fix it by then. Benin
It's way too hard to predict how much wear and tear will occur to part of an attraction... It obviously passed the start of year checks, but it couldn't be predicted that it would then later become unsafe...It's exactly like any other breakdown...Closing the area wouldn't make much difference, and indeed would cause mass issues with routes to Katanga, and based on seeing how annoying it was for everyone with the Spinball/Oblivion pathway shut the other day, it's not a good idea...And come on, why did the ride have downtime the other times? Oh yeah, it caught fire... Not exactly unreliable mechanically is it?
pluk
Out of interest, what the hell does one of those cables cost? it must be a fortune, it's huge! And realistically they can't just have them laying around in the yard, even if they wanted to replace it now surely they have to have it specially made to the exact length required, which would take some time itself I would think. It's quite a specialist bit of kit.
Luke_A
Yeah Pluk, the cable must cost them loads, but this picture below shows the wooden platforms used when they changed the other one in the February half term when Th13teen was being constructed... It's not just the cost of the cable, it's the cost of getting all of these platforms sorted out and the machinery that's also involved in the whole process, I definitely don't think they are going to replace it until closed season now.(image from TowersTimes)
Fred
I've *heard* that they may not be replacing the cable - just splicing part of it. However, if this is what they end up doing or not, is yet to be seen..
Benin
Depends how pushy management will be for getting it back up and running again...Splicing will obviously be a lot more technical and complicated... Tricky to see what way they'll go with this... Be good as a quick fix...
stretchy
Eugh, just thought I'd say that all the school trips have now started at Alton -.-though now exams were over I could go on a quiet week day... all major coasters were at least an hour from 11am to closing Rita was broke like all day, the sky ride is still closed too, on the upside I got to try some smaller rides I don't usually does anyone know if ripsaw is always on a stupidly quick cycle, it just seemed pointless going on it...They seem to run a faster cycle if there is a queue. But yes I think that that is the norm nowadays. If you get a good ride opp you can occasionally get longer programs.
Fred
Ask politely for a longer one, you may well get one.On busy days, they run programme 4.. with the 4 spins. It's alright

Benin
Does the resort REALLY need a map? Not exactly Downtown Disney/Disney Village is it?Looks nice though... But feel it's a bit pointless...
AstroDan
It's not Downtown Disney, but then again - there are several attractions, and I think it'll be good for guests. It also will look nice in large size in a wall somewhere...

th13teen
I personally think, that where the extra attractions are situated, most normal guests will bypass the hotels/waterpark! I have been to alton towers over 20 times but I have only seen the hotel twice, and that was at scarefest, to do the mazes! There is no indication outside to tell you what there is, can you come in if you are general public etc. So I feel the map is a good idea, but it is a very confusing map.One way to get people to see the hotel and waterpark is to have offers around the park for the waterpark, I.e. 20% off adult entry when you buy a meal at pizza and pasta buffet etc!Yes there is a waterpark, but Alton do not make a song and dance about it, there surley can't be enough hotel guests going in it to make it worth while! Its a shame in a way they don't make you enter the car park via going up to the hotel and back down to the car park, it would give a good bit of advertsing, its a beatutiful hotel and it should be seen by the masses! Luke_A
Replacement of the Skyride cable has started...Apparently there is scaffolding over the BBQ and courtyard area, over the 1st lift of the flume, and over the haunted hollow, looks like it could be up and running by the end of the season again then! :DIn the picture below you can see how they have lowered the cable off of the support tower, probably to start the pull-through process.Images from djtruefitt at TowersTimes. Benin
Be interesting to see how long it takes for them to sort it out...I'm HOPING it'll be finished by my birthday, but I'm not holding my breath as this is quite a tricky thing to do during the open season... Mattgwise
They must be spending so much money on Skyride as of late. Almost every season it has a massive chunk of downtime.
