£9.60 for a hotdog and chips is extortionate even for a theme park.

That same venue used to serve full BBQ meals for less than £8 (before discount).

You can't really blame people for taking their own food when the quality of park food has decreased and the prices increased massively, IMO.

£8 for a beer at the o2 is extortionate but I still pay it. Just find it strange that this is a Thorpe park fan forum but all everyone seems to do nowadays is moan.

Thorpe were charging £12 for a hotdog and chips when I looked in at the new place early last year, no wonder people take their own!

However you also had a 20% MAP discount....... £9.60 fair for a themepark in line with stadium /event pricing.

Next thing you know people will be demanding a Tesco on park for their £3 meal deals.

The renewal price is really good tbf. Even normal rates are good. New the passes are £179 (renewal is saving £60 / 33%) and £229 (renewal saving £70 / 30%)

Just for comparisons to other passes:

    Flamingo Land : £135 / renewal £90 (33% saving)

    Paultons Park: £140 / renewal £132 (5% saving)

    Blackpool: £150 (no renewal rate?)

Phantasialand: €195 (£162) (no renewal rate)

Europa Park: €225 (£192) (no renewal rate)

Given you get unlimited entry to 3 theme parks + Legoland, it's really not that bad.

Hopefully the lack of sale is a sign of Merlin no longer giving away passes, making them a bit more exclusive again so they can manage things a bit better when it comes to ticket sales.

But thats not the agenda of the average money saving map holder is it?

What are you having for lunch? Hot dogs in flasks.

You could have a 3-way race with Mission Ferrari in Abu Dhabi tbf

Not that it matters, because Energylandia will have built 5 coasters, 2 cheap flats and a dozen kids rides by the time any of them open

I add Brexit to this race, as that itself could be seen as a rollercoaster.

He didn't say it wasn't. He just from nowhere speculates that it won't - and talks for a good few minutes about it. Like @Ivsetti said - it's obvious Mr. Sick has friends high up at Thorpe and it's just "free" advertising for them... so my guess is that he has been told something.

I see him as personally just being brainwashed by MR Brown into predicting these things, although he does seem to have a good knack for it without any construction updates. But as he says its all speculation.

I think good crowd controlling in parks comes down to (but not limited to):

    • Major rides/attractions with decent capacity/operations
    • Sufficient support attractions such as flat rides and other attractions within close proximity
    • Balanced consistency of shows and entertainment
    • Design and layout of footpaths and locations
    • Tactical ways of moving around guests

Over the last 5-10 years we have easily seen many parks go either way when it comes to handling crowds. Some have improved their infrastructure and layouts which improved how they handle crowds, whilst others have striped back on theirs leading to them coping worse when they get busy.

You also have to play into effect guest security has become a major factor over the past 10 years.

out of interest why are Phantasialand able to invest ridiculous amounts of money but Merlin, "2nd only to Disney" not?

Merlin Parks aren't just able to invest money at will, without a business case, which is what they did in the early 2000's era.

Currently Merlin's interests are in Asia as that's where the emerging markets are.

If the British consumer, spent more money in the parks, and stopped complaining about the excellent value of the MAP looking for the cheapest options to the point of Merlin practically giving tickets away, share the fun, trade, promos etc, then perhaps they would invest more into the UK markets but currently Lego is the asset with the greatest return, hence why it will be getting a new land next year.

On the second to Disney comment, it's the truth however you have to look at the business as a whole for example the Midway clusters and Legoland parks generating millions in weekly revenue.

  8. Keeps up to the 3 year old concept art seen above but we have a trailer.

Seems as if the band / app will play a central role within the park.

I see it as an upgrade to those interactive quest experiences you can do at Disney.

Assuming the app will have upsells, merch etc this park will just be printing money.

Amity Beach is tacky and rundown, Legoland's outdoor small water area does what Amity Beach does and does it a lot better.

Amity Beach rarely opens and is entirely expendable, sure it does serve families but there is so much to be desired with Amity Beach, it is very dated and a eyesore when walking in.

Thorpe got rid of X (a much better attraction for families), I don't know why Thorpe wouldn't want to pull the trigger on the beach..

If anything its going in the other direction, thorpe have advertised for lifeguards, so your beach is going nowhere besides its part of the history of thorpe park.

Apologies if that doesn't fit your enthusiast agenda.

I think if people want to see concerts then they will go to an actual venue, not a budget setup in the middle of a theme park.

Alton and Thorpe have both played with the concert idea and it definitely has proven underwhelming so I think the park won't bother in the future. If they had a actual stage and a way of organising the events better (like Europa does) then it might actually work, but currently they don't have that dedicated arena area.

I honestly would like to see Amity Beach bulldozed for anything, I don't care if its a arena or a bouncy castle.

I honestly think anything would be better than Amity Beach at the moment, its such a worthless and stupid waste of space. A tacky outdoor waterpark in the usually very overcast southeast england. At least Storm Surge appeals to a wider range, Amity Beach and the slides appeal to kids only on hot days only (which is once every blue moon..)

It looks like a pile of crap to boot.

Why does everything Merlin do have to appeal to specific just you. The beach is a key driver of families to the park during the summer.

It doesn't help that's it's not near any train stations, so getting there isn't easy if you don't have a car, or if you want to drink at an event (which I'd imagine most would).

What a load of rubbish, there's a shuttle bus running every 10mins lol more of which could be put on depending on event demand.

Staines station is also 35 mins out of London.
