How many times do we have to say of course there's going to be massive cuts during the biggest accident in Alton Towers history. How. Many. Times.
I wasn't having a dig at Alton Towers, I was just saying why they were cut instead of other departments. I couldn't care less about some entertainers wandering round the park.
-
And for those who cant be asked to read about the alpha there is useful video summing it up.
-
It would not surprise me if those jobs were all cut, as to merlin they are a waste of money as they are not needed nor do they bring in money.
-
The smiler and Colossus both suffer a lot from temperature when it comes to speed and smoothness. Ride the smiler again when its warmer and I'm sure it will be more enjoyable.
-
Well it clearly wasn't a last minute choice where engineers came in one day and decided to turn them around. Thorpe could have at least removed a fence, I know merlin were trying to put up as many fences as possible this year but taking down some cant have been too hard. Not removing it from the queue time board is an amazingly simple job and would have consisted of changing a single setting. How can a park not get something so simple right.
-
They use points in the queue line to work out the time. However at the beginning of the season the rides are not getting the throughput for the points to be correct. As they staff become more experienced they will become more accurate.

Or perhaps the world's first ride designed by (insert itv/channel 4 celebrity here)

A dark ride started out with an idea with potential to make a lot of money. A high investment log flume in the UK where rain is the main weather is just a bad idea from the start.Talking about Merlin and sense in the same sentence is slightly ironic given what's opening in a few weeks at Thorpe.
-
A decent multi launch hugging the ground a bit like maverick would make for an amazing ride and one that would benefit Alton's line up greatly. However I doubt this ride will be that. I feel this is going to be a family friendly world's first gimmick. I don't think SW8 will be a flume replacement. I feel Merlin have enough sense to know a high investment long flume would not bring a very big return.
-
Yeah because sw1 2 and 3 were all record breakers.

"I want to make another cheap dig at Thorpe, so will complain about something which I wouldn't normally complain about".
I was actually asking to know what the answer was or am I not allowed to be curious and ask questions any more. At no point was I going to complain about something which I think is a good idea. I don't just complain at merlin for the sake of it contrary to your belief.
-
I'm not sure if your being serious but if anything the loss of the more expensive fastrack sales etc will if anything lose them a bit of money.
It seems an odd move to remove something which seemed to be making them money. My only assumption was that it must make maintenance easier/cheaper or able to remove staff members.
-
If you honestly believe that a ride which is actor heavy and using experimental VR will still be a great attraction as it is in its opening year then you are far more trusting in Merlin than you should be.
I have faith that this will be a good attraction when it opens. I have very little faith it will stay that way.
-
It doesn't matter how good the ride is. It's using actors so in a few years time it will be an incomplete experience. Merlin are incapable of learning as they have proven time and time again.
I hope simworxs have an amazing ride system as that is the only thing that will keep this attraction around for more than 5 years.
-
Anyone know the reason why they have turned it back round? I'm assuming it's cheaper somehow.

Intamin Multilaunch which was originally designed as an aquatrax.
-
I take it this means we are not getting the woodie any time soon.
-
Well this is not exactly a new thing. If it was a one off then I'm sure we would all understand. However this keeps happening. Multiple rides not being ready for the start of the season. The chance of 4+ rides having a last minute fault year on year is incredibly low. Besides most parks scheduling accounts for delays like you mentioned. Something clearly isn't as good on the maintenance side as it is at other parks. Could be bad management, lack of staff, ageing neglected rides, the list goes on.
-
For the budget they had I do not care if they use tarmac. For the budget DBGT has that floor is just a joke.
-
I would have said 2020 when it is no longer viable to continue use of Galactica in the way they intend to use it this year. Its a gimmick that will quickly show its age. The animation looks of very poor quality and the technology is going to age incredibly fast. Will cost a lot to run and a lot to maintain.
-
I was referring to when 2 stations are in use. If one station is delayed the other one doesn't need to go as fast as the time before they can dispatch is longer. Think of it as a train has to leave within a time from the previous train leaving. Not the time from when the train arrived back in the station. While the overall time is the same the individual time is not. So to achieve a good throughput all you have to do is a really fast first train and a good time for trains 2 and 3.
-
Air actually has an issue of dispatching too soon (according to ride ops ive spoken to). Over the course of the day the stations become out of sync because one station is normally too fast (could also be seen as one was delayed). I'm sure you have all been on it where it slows down on the lift hill or even stops. Cleaning each headset will clearly reduce the throughput but out of all the rides to choose from they chose the best one. Its not hard to get an air train ready to dispatch in time during normal operation so hopefully on a good day the throughput wont be effected too much.

It's way better than any restaurant Merlin has to offer.
Volcano bay is a water park. Capacity isn't exactly a necessity.
Finally by no means is kong cheap. The rock work distracts you from the Forrest anyway.

Currently the game runs amazingly well. My laptop is well below the minimum requirements and its handling it at a steady 30fps.
