You’ll not get many chances to be riding rides at Thorpe at midnight!

CHERTSEY, Friday 13 April 2018: THORPE PARK Resort has announced that for the first time in its 38-year history, it will open its gates at midnight on Tuesday 24th April 2018 for 1,000 lucky fans to experience its new attraction The Walking Dead: The Ride for free.

All that visitors will need to do to qualify for the unique experience is to come to the Surrey based theme park dressed as a zombie and be prepared to act in a zombie-like manner in the queue line. Visitors must be in the queue by 11pm on 23rd April.

Tickets for Midfright will be available via Eventbrite from 23rd April at 10am and will be limited to 1,000.

As the UK’s first and only multi-sensory and multi-part rollercoaster, The Walking Dead: The Rideinvites thrill seekers to flee The Walking Dead in a relentless and terrifying ride for survival.

It is also the world’s first rollercoaster themed around the global TV phenomenon of the same name and comes complete with state of the art special effects, a replica of the iconic watch tower, and will be the ultimate test of riders’ mettle.

THORPE PARK Resort’s Divisional Director Dominic Jones said, “We’re really excited to announce for the first time in our history that we will be creating a midfright experience for our valued guests centred around our new attraction The Walking Dead: The Ride. We can’t wait to see all of the gruesome outfits that our fans wear to qualify for this unprecedented opportunity.”

The Walking Dead: The Ride is at the centre ofTHORPE PARK Resort’s Year of The Walking Dead unmissable series of events. 2018 also sees guests able to purchase Thorpe Park Annual Passes, through the website, at £49 for multiple visits.

To be fair we don’t know the reason for removing the beams. It could be that the wood needed to be re-treated to stop it rotting and with the weather it wasn’t done in time so removed as a safety thing. You have to bear In mind everything costs the park. Why would you remove it if you didn’t need to.

Look st the old Canada creek railroad. The barriers are still in place. It’s never going to be used but it costs too much to remove them from the ground.

Sometimes everyone is a little quick to judge and say Merlin or Thorpe are bad, ruining everything. Maybe there are operational reasons for stuff like this. Business isn’t so simple and why would you do something if you didn’t need to.

This exactly - they didn’t remove it for the fun of it - replacing it will be a much tougher job than removing it - it’s better to open like that and fix when possible than close it to fix.

  3. Whilst I can see it’s possible if absolutely everything went against you, you’d have to be incredibly unlucky to manage just 2 rides in a full day at towers, even with the staggered opening of the coasters.

As for the comment of “the man” man who paid full price to get in, that means he has a season pass and can return all season for what will no doubt be a more successful trip!

  4. Fire has been used this year - the explosion plays when the fire should go off - you don’t really notice it though as the fire effect is so loud it’s self!

Not seen the water effects used other than the jets which come out of the side of the helecopter.

  5. Ride availablilty wasn’t great yesterday - which is a shame as they seem to have the worse luck especially when it comes to their annual pass events (remember the 2 ghost train events where it failed to open?!)

Fingers crosses Walking Dead isn’t down too long - especially over the final week of half term!

  6. I always thought (maybe wrong but guessing!) the launch track was made up of 2 tracks, the place your heads back (or ready to go looking good back in the day!) then the 3 2 1, it sounds like they’ve just put the 3 2 1 bit on which plays as the first one should play, causing it all to be miss timed etc.

Of course that could all be wrong but just a guess!

Edit: Seems like it’s been fixed now :)

  7. I guess this is the spoilers thread - so the story is you need to use the transit system

to escape in the cafeteria which is the exit area, this whole area has been opened up and themed to what would be Thorpes cafeteria, when you get off the train and enter the area it triggers sound effects / lights simulating some sort of car crash into the building there.

I really was trying to see the good in BPB but I take back anythig positive I said the other day, they closed TWO HOURS earlier than the advertised time today!

An absoloute disgrace to paying guests, and as season pass holders nothing is given to rectify the situation.  We'd planned around the advertised 7pm closing time so visited the Tower attractions in the morning, only to head up to BPB for the afternoon to find it closing at 5pm.

It was raining lightly but otherwise the weather was fine, The Big One and Flying Machines were operating so high winds clearly weren't an issue.  The park was quiet but when you advertise an "earliest ride closing time" and sell wristbands/allow people to plan their visits around these times, you can't then go and cut two hours out of people's day.

In addition their "word's best dark ride" is still in a horrible state and broken, didn't get a single bit of fire yesterday.

    And they demolished Wild Mouse.

    Sod them.

I’ve noticed you’ve had this problem with them a lot - it’s certainly not great customer service and closing 2 hours earlier than advertised is bad, there’s no real other way round it.

Have you ever complained to the park direct to see if the shed anymore light onto why? I suspect it’s just when they feel it’s too quiet to stay open later but they really should do things the other way round, advertising an earlier close time and then extending if needed.

So aside from Wicker Man, Alton Towers was absolutely dire on Sunday.

    • Wicker Man didn't open until 12 noon, broke down again after two trains, so we didn't get on until 12:30 despite having arrived at 8:30 in the morning to be there for the "ERT"
    • Ride testing on Wicker didn't start until gone 9:30am

The vast majority of new rides have teething problems - unfortunately that’s the way it is. If testing only started at 9:30 it would have been because Work was being done to it up till then, not to spite guests.

I do think possibly in situations like this though towers should look to open a coaster due to open later to help make up for the loss.

They need to change their policy and get Thirteen and Rita open at 10. There is no fall back whatsoever and like today, to have Oblivion as the only major rollercoaster open, is damaging their brand.

Towers have snow today - Causing the majority of rides to be unavailable.
