This may be blindingly obvious to someone who knows how this magic works, but I have no clue. Is it possible to grab a couple of seconds clip from a program on iplayer and save it? I'm guessing they do something to try and stop people copying stuff, but it appears on you tube anyway so there must be a way? It's only a couple of seconds I want.
  2. Isn't that what friend and family preview days are for? I'd hope they hadn't forgotten what to do in three months!
  3. Oh wow, something to look forward to next year.... http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2012/05/10/15357/the_worlds_end,_coming_in_2013

To summarise, the site owner has pissed the team off, so the team has pissed off. Site = dead quite ill?
  5. I wonder what 6 flags would pay Thorpe for ours to ship over and break for parts? They must be quite pricey bits if the ride is not in production. I hope they can fix it, it's not my favourite ride by a long shot but it's great having something quite unique so near by. I think I've asked this before and no one really knew, but these extended periods of downtime. Are they the same thing over and over, or is different parts packing up each time?
  6. People reading and commenting on the Daily Mail are to be believed about as much the people who write it. Not a lot. A lot of the comments flying about clearly stem from the poorly written, unclarified and sensationalist Mail article which the hard of understanding read as fact. Chessington should lock their page until these morons calm down.

    Oblivion

I've never understood the big secret with shutdowns. If you are waiting for a train that never arrives they tell you why (signal failure at ...., train stuck on line at ....., leaves on the line etc etc). Why shouldn't it be the same at parks? It frustrates the hell out of people not being told what's going on.
  8. If the facebook nonsense is to be believed (ie posts from morons) plenty of people did pick up on it, but didn't bother telling staff. And apparently that is now the staffs fault. Genius, It is also now reported on the BBC, somewhat more reliably and less sensationalist than the Daily Fail.
  9. No more pressure, once 'erect', than enterprise or similar. A pop of maximum pressure at the bottom and a fight with gravity evening things out at the top, overall the forces are far from unbearable. When enterprise levels before the ride ends and your are put through sustained g's it really does drain you quickly, but all the time it is upright it is fine. I'm sure it will be the same with this.

    2013 Changes

Although that theatre is quite huge, sure they could fit two of them in there running back to back. But for what that would cost I'd hope they'd do something different.

    2013 Changes

It would make sense, but as a stand alone attraction? I hope not. What's the throughput of that thing, even with the ridiculously short and nonsensical ride cycle it had/has an dungeons? Thorpe should be aiming much higher for something to compliment The Swarm.
  12. All very true, but even Dragon has seen 'damage' done to the ride aesthetically. This is what Buddha should look like.... Now he is exposed, and the lifthill behind is not exactly in keeping with the theme and beauty of its surroundings. Why they let these things happen I do not know, it must have cost about as much to tear down that large structure as it would to referb it (making the assumption that the reason behind them doing anything during the last 10 years is purely to reduce costs). It is only a matter of time before every piece of theming needs some costly maintenance and with the current thinking of the place it will all be stripped away instead. How long before Chessington looks like an inland Adventure Island?
  13. Again from AIG (this time Hurri), more Time machine construction, with opening looking imminent.... Interesting. Those seats clearly rotate and the whole thing lifts, could make an intense and strange ride sensation. Looking forward to giving it a go (at last!).
  14. Horrible that it's happened, but if your kid has just wound up in hospital fighting for their life I think the last thing you'd be doing is posting messages on a facebook page. Wouldn't take any of those posts seriously, there's some odd people about. Having walked that walk a thousand times, there are no gaps close to being big enough for a child to fall through. Either the kid was lifted somewhere they shouldn't have been and fell from there, or part of the structure has broken creating a gap that shouldn't be there. Either way, hope she recovers soon.
  15. I'm sure they know what they're doing so I'm probably wrong, but surely they'd be much more popular if they knocked them out as email files for literally a quid or two. No overheads of disks (or staff if machines are used) so each sale is pure profit once the equipment is paid for. I'd imagine the uptake would be huge, who misses a quid or two? I know I'd but them regularly to laugh at when I got home. They could still sell 'premium' physical dvd's too, with a documentary or whatever bolted on.

It is the only coaster that actually hurts me to the point I really don't look forward to it, but that is from the restraints and not necessarily from roughness coming from the track other than the jolt into the first turn. The pain it inflicts to the front of my shoulders is strong and constant for the whole duration. This only became a problem for me from some time last year, I don't know if that is because my body shape has changed, or is something different on the ride now?
  17. As a balance from this intellectual stuff.... How did I not know this was coming? Awesome!

    Single Rider

Because you've got to assume the single rider taking that seat would have joined the standard queue if SRQ did not exist. So not only does it fill the seat next to the 'existing' single rider that they are paired up with (purely a bum on a seat), it avoids a further pair of sets being used by the single rider who would otherwise join the SRQ line (throughput and therefore standard queue - improved). Agree SRQ does not work if the ride set up was not designed for it. Inferno / Colossus exit ramp shenanigans good riddance, but Stealth was designed for it and it worked well so it seems daft to lose it.

Sounds like the bearing has gone, which is something of a major problem on that ride. Any problem with the bearing, being the only thing holding the gondola to the arm, should immediately cause a shut down for obvious death related reasons. Maybe there is a legitimate setting to lock the gondola in place but I've certainly not heard of it before, could be worth advising the council you suspect it is operating with a major defect. As for being held upside down I would imagine there is a specific H+S guideline for the entertainment industry. I have no idea what that is but would imagine it would be less than 8 minutes, I'd be surprised if it was more than about 30 seconds for general comfort reasons. Although if David Blaine can manage three days upside down I guess it is not actually that dangerous for an otherwise health person.
  22. I'd say 20% less capacity is pretty significant really, especially with a longer ride duration. Queues for this will be horrendous, so it will fit in well with the rest of MM.
  23. It depends where you look though, some of it really is beautiful. I'm guessing you weren't standing in front of the bare frame and crumbling façade of RMT when they said it. They do have funny money spending priorities sometimes. The time and effort they spend on some little things like the ornamental pond and waterfall on the way to Falls must be quite huge to keep them so perfect, yet they let a whole ride sit there and fall to pieces.
  24. But it probably is the 'best' way! Unless anyone has actually invented teleporting yet. Getting to AT on any public transport sucks, I'd say it's best not to bother trying. Make a friend with someone with a car.
  25. Lets not congratulate them for undoing something that should never have been done in the first place though, eh? But woo for someone somewhere seeing sense.
