  1. It's all true though. They are designing something from scratch, they could do pretty much whatever they wanted, they choose to do this. Why?
  2. China - Knock off pendulum ride crashes to the ground, amazingly no one killed. Australia - Drunken staff manage to cause themselves multiple injuries on a rather awesome looking slide Arizona - Bumper Boat bursts into flames burning two children.
  3. Cattlepen of doom confirmed/
  4. Horrible Histories would be just perfect. Properly adult funny, kids love it too. If they let them have a proper creative imput I'd be amazed if it was anything but awesome. This is the best idea yet!
  5. Dungeons has a (somewhat diminished) educational aspect though, which makes using real historic events acceptable and necessary to a certain extent. Saw is a work of pure fiction. Swarm is set in a plane crash that didn't really happen. Etc etc. That makes those all very different to a stand alone ride which exists purely for entertainment being based on the real life murders of some real life prostitutes in gruesome circumstances. These things actually happened to real people, I can imagine that not sitting too comfortably with some people. And Thorpe have openly said they want to actively push towards the family market. Just adds up to ripper feeling a bit unlikely to me.
  6. Still holding out for Dr Who, it just feels so right. If it is generic Jack the Ripper that could be a pretty smart move; it comes with a known 'backstory' to build on, is marketable to an extent and importantly is free to use so the money can be pumped into the experience rather than rights buying. It's all a bit dark though, murder and prostitution based attraction doesn't scream family fun, does it?
  7. What is it with Alton and incomplete tunnel based experiences?!

Hmm, they'll have a hard time convincing the planners that they are spending millions on something which will attract no extra visitors, or at least maintain current levels which they already find unacceptable, I imagine that they'll include some other type of concession to reduce or manage traffic, no idea what that'd be though? Can't see it being a success otherwise.

Good luck to them! I don't know the area, are the congestion problems surmountable?
  11. Joking aside, I'm in total agreement with TPJames, that is wholly unacceptable. It's not the users fault, they should be directed to fastrack. Thorpe, what are you thinking?
  12. Not to be 'that guy' but those individual components are not unique components, they are repeated over and over. As a generalisation there's 12 rows (/12 = 1325), most things are then mirrored across the two symmetrical seats / wheel assemblies (/2 = 662) and most of those would then be repeated on each side of that half of the assembly (/2 = 331). I wouldn't mind betting the total unique part count would be considerably lower than even that modest number as many things are repeated over and over within that individual seat/mounting (bolts, wheels, chain links...), apart from main chassis and major lift hill stuff they probably do have one or two of everything in store! Whatever, the reliability record is horrid. They may have the odd bit of bad luck but to be this consistently bad there simply must be an underlying problem in what they are doing with Vamp and across the park. There's only so many coincidences that can be plausible.
  13. It was considered a failure at the time by the park / Merlin because it didn't create the expected uplift in visitors in its opening season. Never mind that it was Olympic year, the weather wasn't consistent, there were mistakes in the marketing, that the preceding seasons had been poor and dissuaded returns and many other things which influenced the gate. Never mind also that it had one of the highest rider approval ratings recorded, showing once people were on it they loved it so word would likely spread and people would be likely to return . The reaction, in terms of gate figure, wasn't instant so it will always be thought of as a failure, and this why we ended up with the crappy backwards seats to give them a gimmick to push and why the unique selling point is now held in higher regard than producing anything good. Just shows what a short term mindset things are operated with, and why there is virtually nil investment on anything other than something new and major (ie marketable) rather than general improvements, which are so desperately required and would deliver long term results. It's all such a shame.
  14. I like that it's got enough power to flip you over if it catches your feet on a jump!
  15. Both of those tunnels were awesome.
  16. The price of neglect. If it wasn't true it'd be funny.
  17. http://www.thorpebreaks.co.uk/flash-sale.html Free stay at local hotel with park ticket, £10 stay at Shark. Both a decent deal by value, and an indication that Thorpes pricing is mental by its ability to exist.
  18. A work of art entitled 'Love Yourself A Little Too Much'
  19. I recon that is a Merlin park-wide cut and paste job. we can hope though!
  20. That could also include the direct track/hydraulics systems; I think it is marked up as 'maintenance' on the plans to convey that there will be no punters down there (for evac/access design purposes) rather than meaning it will be an entirely separate area, if you know what I mean.
  21. Not the first time I've heard that said, and it could be great, but I struggle to see how the building would be big enough to house a decent version of it.
  22. Planning and speculation topic locked, I'm A Celebrity attraction topic can be found here!
