Posted April 10, 200916 yr comment_51804 Talk about Altons very own Swing ship.I think it is a good ride a lot better at the back. What does everyone else think?
April 10, 200916 yr Author comment_51810 Something new to talk about and it is a forum where people discuss topics and here is a new one.
April 10, 200916 yr comment_51813 But there is aboustely nothing going on with the Blade at Alton Towers. If it was being removed, replaced or moved then it would be acceptable. However, what is there to discuss about it? It is a bloody swinging ship which can be found at many other theme parks.
April 10, 200916 yr comment_51819 I think the one at chessington and Voodoo at Flamingo Land are better than Blade tbh :s Blade is quite a thrill but next to Ripsaw and Nemesis it just doesn't filter through as a 'Hardcore' ride. Whereas Voodoo and the one at chessington (arg I'm so stupid I cannot remember the name for the life of me ) is better IMO.
April 10, 200916 yr comment_51821 Black Buccaneer is CWoA's swinging ship :oBlade is shockingly awful, there isn't much more to be said on it from me.
April 10, 200916 yr comment_51822 It's nice to a see a swing ship which aint pirate themed and has it's original theme.
April 16, 200916 yr comment_52884 It's nice to a see a swing ship which aint pirate themed and has it's original theme.Mr Monkeys Bannana Ride?!
April 16, 200916 yr comment_52885 Mr Monkeys Bannana Ride?! No, bannana boats and pirate ships are really generic. But I went on Blade yesterday, it goes pretty high init?
April 16, 200916 yr comment_52888 No, bannana boats and pirate ships are really generic. But I went on Blade yesterday, it goes pretty high init?Really, where are the others? And yeah, but it used to go higher. The best "Ship" I've been on is one in Isle of White called "Colossus"
April 16, 200916 yr Author comment_52914 The best one I saw was at Dreamland fun park in Margate but cant remember what it was called it went really high. (Dreamland now has half a ride ) so it is a great place to visit.
April 16, 200916 yr comment_52958 I wouldn't call theming a ride to a banana generic .If a monkey was the design manager then maybe. .
July 1, 200916 yr comment_62084 In all honesty, I think Blade has been a lot better this year. This is probably because the park replaced the tyre at the end of the 2008 season, so this year it has been swinging higher. It still doesn't even compete with Black Buccaneer though.

I Love Swinging Ships. Such a feeling in your stomach (Especially at the back)
March 12, 201510 yr comment_204885 *blows off cobwebs* This season's new map has been uploaded online: https://www.altontowers.com/media/2568/atr-gate-map-map-2015_v9.pdf Worth noting that The Blade is no longer listed on the map at all. Is this the end?
March 12, 201510 yr comment_204887 Hmm, interesting! And Blade always used to be on ERT with Nemesis but this year it's not. Oh well, don't like pirate boats anyway
March 12, 201510 yr comment_204891 Well it was listed as going. I guess it's time is up. Or they forgot about.
March 12, 201510 yr comment_204892 Hmmmmmmmm Lots of trees being removed around the Forbidden Valley, Blade no longer listed on ERT, Blade no longer the map. Sounds like Blade is going to me, plus it would sound most likely SW8 would be built (atleast partly) on the site of this ride (and Ripsaw), seeing that they have to be very clever these days to get anything granted (unless it's lucky enough to be an area where planning isn't needed), especially as the park has its a share of 'local' haters and gets pressurised more and more of the need for a relief road to the park every year. Can see this season being Ripsaw's last as SW8 is planned for 2017 and next year will likely be a construction site.
March 12, 201510 yr comment_204893 Since Ripsaw is still operating then it's highly unlikely that Blade really needs to go just yet. I don't expect that area to be closed until part way through the 2016 season (at the earliest). They probably don't want to start construction in FV itself until they absolutely have to due to the disruption it would cause. If that is the case, then the reason for Blade's closure is almost certainly financial, either to shave some money off the operations budget or faults were found with the ride that were deemed too expensive to rectify.
March 12, 201510 yr comment_204913 Blade will eventually be retired but this season it is purely financial.
March 12, 201510 yr comment_204924 There are cuts to the operations budget at Alton Towers in spite of a roaring 2014 season. There'll be more cuts evident soon.
March 12, 201510 yr comment_204935 Why are the cuts necessary? They make more than enough profit to operate everything so I can't see how they can justify it. This is what I don't like about Towers, as soon as a ride fails to get 60 minute queues on a regular basis they either SBNO or remove them! Rides aren't going to stay hugely popular forever, but that doesn't mean that they aren't a fundamental part of the lineup. I can see them getting complaints about this, especially in the summer as there will now be one less ride in the area to cope with the crowds.
