  1. Vertical Construction started mid-December, so not a while really. The only update that can be given is that vertical construction is continuing.
  2. Dan, I think there's been a misunderstanding between us.I agree he should go for the job in the summer. It's what I adviced him to do in my very first post about all this. But everything just seems to have diverged between loads of things. In short, what I'm saying: work on GCSEs and wait till summer for the job. :PAnd yeah, I was wrong. I didn't think about personal situations for everyone and all that. All I can say to that is I was wrong and I'm sorry. I just feel that people are having a go at me for the fact my mum was able to give me money..
  3. I totally agree that money shouldn't be an issue if you love what you do. But if you're in it just for the money, Chessie or Thorpe wouldn't be my first choice.. Granted, I was a bit narrow minded at first (ie, not considering what he wants to di with his life, etc.) but I still think that the more time you have to focus on GCSEs the better, which I would feel would be not taking a part time job. As for the whole education vs working after compulsory school argument, well, whatever you choose to do, good GCSEs are prefrable, even if it just ends up as a safety net. I find that quite offensive. Yeah, when I was at school, I lived off my mum. She gave me £10 a week, which was for me to buy what I needed / wanted (excluding breakfast lunch and dinner and school clothes). Yeah, I could have done with a bit more, and when I hit 16 I did talk about getting a job. But eventually I decided against to concentrate more on my GCSEs. Personally, I feel if I had had gotten a job, I would not have coped. Now, if I wasn't going to college, in the big wide world of work I would have gone. But instead, I went to college. Decided not to get a job till I settle into the workload and I probably won't get a job till summer. My EMA covers my travel costs, gets me lunch and what I need each week with a little bit leftover. My mum doesn't give mr money any - at my request - because I feel I have enough. So really, I don't need the money. I don't see the point in getting a job that will not relate to my future ambitions for a bit of extra money. So I do apolgise if my mum giving me some money for a couple of years is so wrong.
  4. Yes, we have been talking about summer jobs, but not JUST summer jobs. I think that in general, summer jobs ARE good things - I've never said they're not. Whenever a friend of mine has looked for a summer job, they've always gotten one. So yeah, for me to say there's plenty of summer jobs is wrong, but I've never known anyone who's been looking for a summer job to not eventually get one...And yeah, I am lucky. And, for the record, my mum doesn't have money to toss around, but she actually went out of her way moreso than was probably required so that I could have some money and concentrate on school work primarily.
  5. Perhaps it's just my personal preference then. I know I couldn't have gotten through my GCSEs with a part time job due to the sheer amount of work I was doing. The weekend was a saving grace to relax, not to be working even more. My mum doesn't earn that much really, yet she was able to give me enough for me to be able to do what I wanted to do / get what I wanted to get.At college, most people need as much money as possible, so I can perfectly understand people wanting jobs then. But personally, no matter what I'd want to do in the future, I'd hold back until after I've done my GCSEs before getting any jobs. Simply put, they're important, and I'd want to be fully focused on them and them alone. So yeah, in my eyes, I just can't understanding rushing into a job ASAP. But each to their own..
  6. Whilst I can understand this to a degree, I don't see why you need to rush into it literally at the first instance. My mum earns about £16k a year, I didn't get a job (still don't for the record due to heavy workloads of college) and I didn't really need any more money than what my mum gave to me. Yeah. when people get to college, I can understand, but rushing in at the first instance, I just don't get it...
  7. Just giving my view on things really. I'm laying on him as it were. If he wants to work there, fine, I'm not stopping him. But why apply at the very first strike of turning 16? Why not just wait a bit, focus on school work. Yeah, getting a job isn't easy, but there's plenty of summer jobs to go around, and I'd guess getting one at Chessie isn't going to be that much harder than getting any other summer job. The point is, I just don't get why some people want to rush into jobs at the very first instant. Seize your youth as much as physically possible and all that...
  8. I like Facebook. It is an easy way to keep in touch with people. It's simple and has helped me arrange so many things and sort things out. It's when you get the silly add ons like Farmville and god knows what else that ruin it.
  9. Seriously? You're 15 for goodness sake. Are you really telling me you want to work at a theme park, doing what will probably be little more than a bog standard job there for minimum wage(?), more than anything in the world? A job that you could most likely apply to this time next your, or in the summer. (Speaking conditional cause I don't know what department and that you're applying to)...Why not just kick back and wait till the summer? Get a job where you can probably earn a bit more money now and concentrate on school work for now. Why are people in such a hurry to grow up for goodness sake?!

    Glee!

Gladly. The story line is just that - a story. Eastenders is not meant to reflect really life situations for goodness sake, it's a drama that makes shocking things. It's not a bad decision to make that story line. Next, you'll be saying that James Bond films are bad because they encourage people to go around killing everyone. As for Glee, never watched it, never plan to. Just not my thing.

Woo for going to Cambridge Uni 10th-12th next month for tasters courses!
  12. Twitter. Says it all in the name.Only twits use it.
  13. I quite like Vortex. One of the better flats at Thorpe for me.Oh sorry, I think I've got the wrong topic?
  14. ^ Personally, I don't find the layout of Saw bad at all. I haven't really experienced the jolt and it's a fun ride - the indoor drop is great and the airtime hill onwards is pretty powerful. Theming is alright, but feels very lacking. I wouldn't say it's the best in the park - Tidal Wave - but it's got some rather good aspects. No where near what I'd call world class.Nemesis is world class. Being dug in the ground, the clever layout, the imposing monster and the way it's aged is just brilliant. The ride just flows so well. The thing is, I see a difference between 'world class' coasters and 'world setting' coasters. By world setting, I mean rides like Colossus, Air, Oblivion - being the first of their kind and setting a trend or a feat or something. But I couldn't class them as 'world class' (Air, possibly, but I'm not too sure to be honest). As for world class coasters, I'd say they'd need to be coaster masterpieces as well as commonly known. However, I don't think they can be very quick layouts (such as Intamin Accelerators like Stealth, Kingda Ka, etc.) That's why I'd put Nemesis there. Though having not rode it, Troy would have to go there as well. The Incredible Hulk is another one I would class as world class. Not sure of others though..
  15. I wouldn't say the insie was tacky, just very much lacking and reeking of missed opportunity (bar the bathroom). Not necessarily. Thorpe tend to market their coasters for 2 years (so in this case, 2012 and 2013). So if it is based around the world ending in 2012, then they could easily create a sort of secondary story line, perhaps having face the inevitable of what 2012 was going to be? Thorpe may have bad points, but they aren't stupid enough to create a ride theme that only lasts a year.To be honest, I don't think LC12 will have an end of the world theme, but more a monster / beast preparing to cause havoc and meaning that the end will come of Thorpe..

    SAW: Alive

Whilst this is true, for Thorpe, an effect is an effect and at least it would be something that is... different. Not the best argument I know, but I would have liked to have seen an electric shock included.

    SAW: Alive

To be honest, you're going into a horror maze. You expect something a little (sorry for the pun) shocking. I'm pretty sure that on the sign and just before you enter the maze, staff would say that "this attraction uses smoke, strobe lighting and electric shock effects, and anyone with asthma, pacemakers, epilepsy should not enter..."It wouldn't be that bad really, just a little pop. I know some argue that it would be abused, with people pushing each other on the fences and that, so maybe just having it on the gate would have been better, but hey-ho/
  18. Eurgh, Biology is the worst Science. Not Mathsy enough for me Though I agree with you Ellie about English Lit and RE and stuff, just waffle on and on about a load of rubbish and get high marks. I was good at those sort of subjects.

    Your Thorpe Park

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/Neilfever/MTDP0.jpgImage © to NeilfeverThis is the current MTDP. On Island C (the middle island, behind the Flying Fish), which is stated to be the home to the 2012 coaster, no flat ride is shown to be there. Therefore, it is highly unlikely (99%) that a flat will be placed there. Someone said a few posts back about 'why would anyone go there for one ride, it will be packed, etc. etc.'. As the MTDP shows, there's 2 possible flats by the entrance of the island, as well as another island (Island A - behind Stealth, which is one of two possible locations for the 2015 coaster that the MTDP outlines) that would join onto it, that homes a coaster a possible 2 flats. So, whilst it may be busy on the opening season (like it would anyway), in the long run, it is a clever idea.No actually ride is on the MTDP, but where Storm Surge is located was said to be a possible location anyway, so yes, Storm Surge was technically on the MTDP. Also, the plans for Storm Surge (and possibly other rides that could have gone there) were made in March / April time, and the MTDP was probably being finalised after that time, so they could easily just manipulate it around that.
  20. Take a post out of a context why don't you?It would be funny in am ironic way is what he is saying. Anyway, isn't it predicted in late 2012?The whole end of world thing in general is just meh really. If it ends, then it will be quick for us when we die, so no worries.
  21. Intamin have had a 12 inverter for a while now, I think this is just a new layout. I think it looks much nicer then the 8 or 10 inverters, but we shall see...
  22. Well, I'm slightly going against what everyone is saying here, but hey-ho..Lust can't be defined in concrete. Just like anger, rage, happiness, etc. For example, dictionary.com defines lust as "intense sexual desire or appetite." But what is intense sexual desire? Can there be a definition to that that is universal? No. Therefore, I would define this 'intense sexual desire' as to want to be with some because of looks (or beyond - like wanting to have sex with them). So, whilst lusting may be defined to do with sexual desires, what people class as a sexual desire can differ completely...
  23. Staines is hardly a terrible place, it's just... rather chavvy. But if all goes to plan, it will become Staines- upon-Thames..Anyways...
  24. Simple topic really, just for updates and that over the closed season. (By the way, mods, can this be put in the General Thorpe Park Section? )Not much I can say really, and unfortunately I don't have any pictures, but there's a chance of some in the nest few days from me. Vertical construction of Storm Surge is not visible from outside the park yet. The majority of the slide is still in the staff car park, however, the lift hill section has been moved (whether it's just been moved out of site, or somewhere slightly more productive I dunno. Rush's swigs haven't been taken off (which is different to previous seasons I believe?) and Slammer doesn't have any scaffolding on it (for a change ). Samurai's arm is still in its ordinary position, though I'd assume the pods have been taken off like usual. Not much else I can say really. Photos will probably come from one member or another sooner or later, so until then...
