Is this in relation to the thing they've already built?!

I've had to take the walk of shame before now. It's not nice, but you have to see the funny side of it. Luckily us fatties are all jolly. Peaj's post isn't particularly nice, but for the majority of larger people there's truth in it too. I know I could carry less weight, and it's only me that can make it happen. One thing I do take issue with is the initial false outrage of fat people moaning about the scales; as far as I can see that hasn't happened, so who is it we are throwing our rage at? See, this attitude is why I'm fat! This is wandering rather off topic. One great result of these rules can be thinnies being sat behind fatties and the huge imbalance this causes the ride vehicles. I once sat next to my even larger friend, we'd have been well over 30 stone between us at the time, and were sat with the scrawniest little 8 year old you ever did see. That car span like you would not believe, best ride on Fury ever, the kid loved it too even though he pretty much couldn't walk when we got off.

That look wasn't shock, it was a look of someone struggling not to verbalise 'go away and stop talking nonsense you buffoon' (or less pleasant words to that effect) for fear of losing their jobs if they opened their mouths. But I'll do it for them "you are a buffoon. Go away and learn what 'discrimination' means". They don't do it not to offend people, they do it for simplicity (and therefore speed of operation) because weighing everyone is a pain in the arse, counting up to 2 is easy and quick.

That 'can't believe no one's guessed it yet' line seems to have been something they've been told to say; a good few people on these tours have come away saying the same thing. I smell a fish.

So effectively it's braking capabilities on that section of track. You'd think sticking an extra bit of braking in would be a simpler and more cost effective fix than messing about with the weights and numbers of riders.

Quite a shame if true. People seem to enjoy tidal as a cold wet challenge / aren't we wild and crazy statement through frighnights. I always think it stays surprisingly busy late in the year. The very action of the boats going round making the waves creates atmosphere in the heart of the park, always feels like something is missing from the atmosphere when tidal isn't running, it's very big obvious SBNO.

Probably because the ride system will need protecting from the elements, it's not a coaster remember! Most buildings are built before their contents are put in place.
-
Why any weight limit at all though? I can only presume car overspeed or brake capability issues with too much weight? Surely it's not down to the weakness of the track or lift chain? Those things should surely never be that close to the limit.

Quite. For me, the problem with Silent Hill is I'd never heard of it. And I'm no dinosaur with my head in the sand, I'd say I'm a pretty average punter, but with no great interest in gaming this one is not known to me while many many others are in my consciousness. Look at other IPs used by Merlin; Cebeebies, IAGMOOH, Ice age, Shrek. They're all pretty much universally recognised. Silent Hill is unknown outside of a certain demographic; it would be an odd and obscure choice in my eyes.

No, but then the launch on TTD is over twice as powerful as Maverick. It is an event in itself. Stealth, in the scheme of things, has an average launch which would likely be near equaled by another launch coaster, so would no longer stand out against a ride which lasts longer than 15 seconds and does a whole lot more than a launch and one top hat. Although I am thinking more from a marketing to the GP point of view, not my preference.
-
The last line is pretty much the whole point of all that they do! Find safety issues, do all they can not to let them happen again anywhere else.
-
I agree with this entirely, it's my view that it'd be just as daft to say not to have more than one chain lift coaster! But from a marketing point of view I can see them struggling, and another coaster with a decent launch would greatly devalue Stealth with it's one trick.
-
Why can't it? Sorry, but it is a nonsense. The implication is that a male is not capable of being impartial and dealing with a matter fairly because of their sex in any given situation. I refute that. Just checked the reports... there are none. How is the team supposed to deal with a problem they are not told about?
-
Not necessarily (but partly) for the ride experience, but more for the marketing, there are certainly problems with some ride types and their similarity to Thorpe's current line up... Flyer - Swarm similarities Dive machine - Saw similarities Any launched coaster - Stealth similarities I don't think they're allowed a hyper with the airport and residential relatively close by. So, what's left? Wood!

It's probably worth considering the statement HSE made the day after the incident.

I don't understand Rugby. Run along a bit. Fall over a bit. Repeat.

If any individual is prosecuted, which is entirely possible if company procedures had not been followed, then they will be named as our courts are open and public. Unless they are under 18, then there can be reporting restrictions.

Merged with existing (but long dormant!) Thorpe Park Photos thread. Some great pics, twisty coaster against angry sky always looks good!

HSE are a public body /prosecutor, carrying out an investigation on behalf of the public to ensure and reassure the public of their safety. They want to shout about the work they have completed and publish their results practically daily as seen here. I have no doubt the report, or at least a redacted one, will be published when it is ready. When it is I'm pretty sure it will conclude with confirmation that the measures put in place by the park mean this incident can not happen again and therefore the ride is now safe, and it's my guess that's the point the Alton will reopen it as it counters all the likely press outrage before it occurs. I doubt Alton know exactly when it will be published, and it might be delayed if a prosecution is necessary, so their 'foreseeable future' unspecified time-frame is probably quite genuine.

I refer the right honorable gentleman to the age and 'ride per day' restricted, most intense experience in the world physcoaster with post watershed advertising - the jumped up mine train that is Thirteen.

A further clip from todays BBC episode, with Victoria speaking about the crash itself.
