Today, myself and others made our way to the park to check out the new area. Here’s just some of my thoughts.

Tornado Springs is a lovely area and really adds another dimension to an already great park. It’s must be amongst the best areas I’ve seen in recent years.

Storm Chaser is a lovely fun coaster with a very reasonable throughput, Cyclonator is surprisingly thrilling, the drop towers are fun and the tractor ride pleasant. Rest of the area further compliments this.

Rest of the park still great and surprisingly busy. The comparison of newer areas to the likes of where Cobra and the Flume are located is remarkable. Hopefully they’ll sort those next.

All in all great park to see if you can. And worth the longer drive compared to say Chessington.

    A few photos.

Paultons was indeed excellent on Sunday.

Tornado Springs is a stunning new area and Storm Chaser is an incredible addition to the park.  I really like how it's a coaster of two halves, you get the calmer first half with views around the park, then you dive into the helix which is packed full of force before the final few turns throw you around a bit before you reach the brakes.

Genuinely, I think it's the best Mack coaster in the country.  It left me with a real "wow" feeling when I hit the brake run on every ride, and had me eager to get straight back on.

As others had said, it does outclass the other rides in terms of throughput, but it also looks very promising for the park's future.  Just a brilliant, delightful area and the very best of UK parks at the moment.

Staying on the positive side of things, it's fantastic to see Pier 13 Pier Oasis keeping it's bright and colourful sponsorship in place!

Nothing else really needs to be said looking at those pictures of Tidal Wave's pool!

    I think...

    £10 for Platform 15...

    £9 if you’re a pass holder...

A maze that was once free for the last 4 seasons...

And now costs more money for both a regular guest and a pass holder than any ScareFest maze did last year...

And the park still have the nerve to charge standard pass holders a minimum of £10/£25 to enter this “Fearstival”...

    This could get... interesting.

For £10 I will expect to have a ball gag in my mouth, made to squeal like a pig and crawl around on all fours whilst being pushed about and then have a big fat man dressed as a baby put a custard pie in my face and throw straw at me #BigTopBraveItAlone #TheGoodOldDays #SharedBallGagNotCovidSecure

Well if it makes us feel any better, a Fright Nights with zero mazes would still be a better event than 2018!!

I have said this time and time again. A fan forum will almost certainly reflect the current state of what it is dedicated to which in this case is Thorpe Park.

If Thorpe Park was performing and delivering to its potential, this forum would reflect that with members getting real excited about the place.

As it is, the park has been a shadow of its old self for a few years now to the point where many who once loved it are now staying away as they are fed up. So ofcourse this forum reflects that.

It would be nice to see positivity.....but when the park is leaving little to find positives in, its hardly surprising that you see more constructive criticism on here

Given the park are still leaving Loggers Leap left to rot, Slammer left to rust and Saw Alive left to sink... is anyone surprised by this?

I can confirm that this stripping of the arcade canopy looks as grotesque in-person as it does through an internet image.

On another note, I was looking on Thorpe's website just now at information regarding their reopening procedure and couldn't help but notice the price of a 1 day ticket has suddenly shot up in price this month which I believe should be highlighted.

As soon as the 10th June just 13 days ago, their website advertised a day ticket as £33. Now however, it is a whopping minimum of £39; an increase of £6 for an advance online booking. To make it worse, this price applies to everybody over the age of 3 now, so there is no longer a discount for those aged 3-11 which was classed as a child ticket previously.

Chessington and Legoland I've noticed are also now doing this new ticketing system, but Alton Towers is not strangely. Here's a breakdown of all prices for a 1 day visit to each of the Merlin parks as of today:

    • Alton Towers (Adult) - £34pp
    • Alton Towers (Child) - £28.50pp

    • Legoland (1 size fits all ticket) - £29 or £33pp
    • Chessington (1 size fits all ticket) - £29.50pp
    • Thorpe Park (1 size fits all ticket) - £39pp

So it appears Thorpe Park is now officially the most expensive theme park in the UK, finally surpassing Alton Towers at long last, yet still no "proper" new ride hardware since 2016...

I think its awful. Chessington is compact and small too, but that is priced modestly..
Thorpe Park does not warrant that price jump. It should be the lowest in price IMO, as it has the least to offer. Lets also consider that the park has not received a proper new ride since 2016 (and that ride will most likely be closed for sanitary reasons and also because its terrible lol).

Thorpe's online price is more expensive than Paultons and Blackpool. So it's not debatable - they are the theme park with the most expensive online ticket.
This is an online ticket at a time when online pre-booking will be pushed more than ever, perhaps even be essential. So regardless of what percentage of people bought those tickets beforehand, that percentage will be increasing.

It may be part of a bigger push on buying season / annual passes, but it doesn't stop the price being high in its own right.
Weird to compare a theme park price to a gig price? Sure, there's some similarities, but they're both very different markets.

When you look across parks in Europe, £39 is at the premium end of theme parks. And whilst, in fairness, the ride hardware on offer at Thorpe is pretty premium, is the overall experience a premium one? Arguably not.

Looking at these differences (for adults only, I think it's crazy that child prices aren't cheaper tbh) is really interesting. Legoland and Chessington are pitched just right, and even Towers' I can accept. But Thorpe's is the one that's off base here. It just doesn't fit.

Unless the other parks are increasing their prices too and Thorpe are ahead of the game, it just feels off.

To raise the online booking price when EVERYONE will have to book online is dodgy however you slice it.

I swear just before the 2019 season started we were told through another one of Sickstone’s pre-season videos that the Dome’s interior was going to be be completed in two “phases”; presumably the first part ripping out the old Atlantis theming early last year, and for 2020 by modernising the interior?

Yeeeeaaaahhhhh, something tells me that idea might have been scrapped. So we are now permanently left with a poor man’s version of the Alton Towers Dungeon - black walls galore.
