Hocus Pocus Hall was actually a recycled attraction idea originally planned by John Wardley in the 1990s.
Here is a collection of the concept art for the original plans, featuring Lord Chessington (then renamed Dr Chessington for the adverts). A later revision is with Count Limburger, a vampire mouse.

Part 2 of a video project I'm producing is now published, documentary on the creation of the 1990 BubbleWorks with new interviews from the team behind it. This was a really special video to make so I hope you enjoy watching. A lot of questions will be answered!

A couple of names spring to mind. Field Of 1000 Chavs, Carnival Of No Halloween Decorations, Terror Of The Fastrack: What Lies Within.

If the Lionsgate mazes do go (not that I've been in any - or will go in any), then why not use an idea from Alton - They have Terror or the Towers, so how about Terror of the Dome! No? Why not Flying Fish Sub Species: Tsunami! Still not convinced? How about The Haunting of Big Bob Jones?
On second thoughts, Thorpe should use their own ideas.

To be honest it works quite well. The problem with the zombie scare zone which is what these are replacing is that poeple see it once. This, even though much cheeper, seems to get more squeels and screams and giggles than zombie did. We stood at the dark forrest one watching the zone for about 30 minutes and the reactions were good. The main problem was asian teenage lads 'bullying' the actors. Whilst we stood there we saw 4 different groups of lads, all about 12-14 and all Asian pushing and poking and kicking the actors. There was a non character based actor in the area and we saw her tell all 4 groups off and threaten to have them thrown out of the park. Security was called on one of the groups.
I would prefer this than nothing at alll and that is all they could afford.

Chessington's mazes had each of those. Take Vampire: The Haunting In The Hollows for instance, using your points:
A reason why you are there: Van Helsing needed your help to find out what was happening to the residents. The promo video from 2012 also featured a letter from him, urging visitors to "meet him at the gates to Black Hollow". A reason for you to have to go through the maze: Van Helsing sends you into the village to speak to the residents. An engrossing possibly real story: Chessington achieved this by slowly piecing together an immersive story as visitors progressed through the attraction, like pieces being added to a jigsaw puzzle. Atmosphere: As it was an outdoor attraction, fog and low lighting were used to really amp up the atmosphere, especially after dark. A climactic end: Visitors finally encountered Count Dracula and were forced to continue through a strobe maze filled with his fellow vampires...which could also happen to be the missing residents of Black Hollow. -
