pluk
Excuse my ignorance. Suspended Thrill Coaster? As in Vampire style swinging cars, but with inversion? Or is it a name for what is really an inverted coaster?
Hethetheth
Given their non swinging family coasters are called Suspended Family Coasters I'm assuming it's the latter. This is still great news as I love SFCs and Vekoma's latest non SLC/ boomerang output has been great.
JoshuaA
I'm pretty sure its a new gen of SLC's, so no swinging. I'm guessing they dropped the name SLC due to their reputation, hopefully this new name solidifies that Vekoma are now a company who are far past head smashing machines. I think this is a great fit for Tayto, Vekoma right now are really on the up so working with them for a major thrill ride is a smart decision, its probably a more affordable option too. JoshC.
Sorry, yes, the STC is the new SLC effectively. See the Vekoma thread for a bit more detail - There's also a fan made POV that's been made...
Mattgwise
The coaster has had planning permission refused! A shame and probably means this park will now struggle to grow with larger attractions. http://www.pleanala.ie/casenum/303869.htm
Matt 236
This feels somewhat appropriate. I honestly hope they can get appeal or tackle these issues. Highly disappointing news.
JoshC.
Tayto have confirmed that they're going to appeal the decision; so watch this space re that... -- In other news, the Viking water ride received a queue line upgrade thanks to a English company. Worth checking out as it looks pretty damn cool: https://www.katapult.co.uk/work/tayto-park-viking-voyage
JoshC.
So Tayto Park ultimately decided to put in a set of new plans for the combined coasters, which they hope to open in 2021. Plans can be seen here: http://www.eplanning.ie/MeathCC/AppFileRefDetails/AA191588/0 They're still going for a Vekoma Suspended Thrill Coaster (STC) and Family Boomerang combo that are intertwined, but have made some minor changes, including a shorter and rather different STC. Main stats: STC: Length: 728m Max speed: 80kph (~50mph) Height: 31m Duration: 99secs Boomerang: Length: 244m Max speed: 58kph (~36mph) Height: 21.8m Duration: 70sec The coasters that were originally planned for Tayto are ending up at Tripsdrill and opening next year (something which was apparently rumoured to happen before all this happened). Hopefully this is enough to convince the council of approving it, and it looks like it'd be a decent investment for the park! JoshC.
After much back and forth, the park have finally got permission to build the two new rides. The issue? They won't open till 2023... https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=4188849437822675&id=184031211637871
Matt 236
To be honest given the current madness worldwide, that time frame may be the most beneficial to the park, as long as they survive what’s happening. I'm just glad they are able to open something new at all.
