Whatever
Would be cool to see Colossus given a re-track like hulk at Universal NEVER going to happen. Merlin won't take action unless the ride is literally falling apart (Tomb Blaster, Logger's etc)
tomglazed
Really hope that after the treatment X got and even Vampire before it, Merlin will see the merit in doing periodic updates to their rides: not only as a means to maintain rides but even as an alternative to churning out rides which could be arguable half assed at a lesser cost. Colossus could get new trains, Vortex could get new restraints, heck even Inferno could have updated trains. A few options I really think Merlin should consider more before rushing to new rides. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Colossus yes, Vortex yes, Inferno no thanks. I agree with periodic updates, there's always room for improvement. I can think of a lot that Inferno could get before it gets new restraints, such as proper rock work around the station shed and the music being put back to how it was. Back to Colossus though, new trains would be perfect. I wonder how many complaints that seating plan has at guest services (if any).
tomglazed
Don't worry I wasn't suggesting Inferno would be top of my new trains list either. Merely examples [emoji5] I would defy anyone to tell me that Colossus' current trains do not get the most complaints out of any of their coasters: possibly even across all their rides... Matt 236
Colossus needs new trains as much as it needs a repaint (both of which haven't happened again). As a result of this it may now be my least favourite of the big coasters (I even prefer Saw now somewhat). Safe to say Colossus is now also probably the most rundown Merlin coaster (Smiler may be the exception) with Nemy & Vampire receiving much TLC this year. I do think Thorpe need a TLC scheme like the other parks as much of the Park is looking fairly tired in places (notably Old Town, Colossus, Rumba and to a lesser extent Inferno, Stealth & even Swarm). Whilst it's not quite Towers pre-2016 the park just needs more non ride/shop/food improvements. Tidal Wave is a start however.
Ian-S
If you think Colossus is bad go ride anything at Blackpool then you'll reconsider, Colossus is positively smooth in comparison. OldFarmerDean and ImLucifer
Matt10
I would honestly say, that unless Colossus has got significantly rougher, it will be smoother then the smiler this year, because that ride was really rough on Saturday through the faster inversions, and failed to hold its speed well throughout like it used too... Project LC
The smiler and Colossus both suffer a lot from temperature when it comes to speed and smoothness. Ride the smiler again when its warmer and I'm sure it will be more enjoyable.
Celia Mae
Smiler was okay today, think which train you're on has an effect too though. One train we rode today was significantly rougher than the ride before, definitely on a different train pognoi and dragon2000
Binki101
Colossus re-paint would be nice, new seats a must...the ride is now akin to that of the corkscrew at Alton Towers prior to its removal. Having said that, it looks like they re-painted part of the heartline roll randomly, and AFAIK both Colossus and samurai haven't actually ran this year AFAIK. coastercallum
I'm on park Thursday, hoping for it to be open and as much as people find it rough, I genuinly prefer it to Saw.
Matt10
If you know how yo avoid bring thrown around it is far better then saw as especially through the last inversion the restraint throws you around in a more uncomfortable, uncontrolled manner then Colossus. coastercallum
Yeah I definately agree with you there. if you keep your head forward on Colossus it's not actually to bad and I find the layout to have a fast paced flow and I love the dive under the shop! Saw is just violent and as you said the last inversion is really painfully. OldFarmerDean
Binki101
All I know is that if I plan on riding Colossus I keep the paracetamol on stand by
coastercallum
All Colossus needs is new trains with lap bar restraints and then it will be one of the best rides on park.
Ian-S
I find trying to keep your head forward makes matters worse, I tend to hold my head up and lean it on the left/right side of the restraint depending which corner I'm going through. coastercallum
Also Different seats provide a different experience, some seats are significantly rougher than others. I don't think I have ever actually done front row on Colossus.
Binki101
Its just as rough in the front as it is mid train and as to be expected slightly worse at the back, I like the idea of lap bar restraints, and wouldn't mind over the shoulder ones if they got rid of those pointless stone bricks either side of your head Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk coastercallum
coastercallum
as much as I find them restrictive, even vest restraints would be nice. But yeah a nice Intamin upgrade is well due
Matt 236
If Thorpe were to ever do a TLC scheme [which I think they should], Colossus should be the first ride on top of the list. Replace the trains [ones like Sky Rush or even like that clone in Italy] Repaint the whole track tidy up the trees and shrubbery jetwash the pit [and maybe even sort the drainage] paint and repave the queue line fences The ride would look fab if most of these came in to fruition ever. Matt10
Everyone says that new trains will make it smoother, but I believe you will find, that a large amount if the roughness is from the actual track itself, as well as some parts of the track where the paint is worn differently creating bumps which the train does not absorb... Binki101
For me its just that my head ends up bouncing between the 2 blocks either side of it when you at sat in the seat, remove those and the job is a gooden Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Ian-S
If your head bounces around that much then the restraint isn't the issue, and removing it will only make matters worse, or worse still cause you serious injury. Your problem stems from a lack of neck muscle, not the ride.
