Deleted Users
You could try looking at some internet radio stations. I used to listen to quite a few Reddit stations which were pretty good and had a huge selection of tracks. The streams are split by genre as well which is nice. pluk

Luke_A
It's not often I complain about disliking music because everyone has their own opinions of different stuff, but Dizzee Rascal's new song is quite awful. Heard it on Radio1 for the first time today and everyone in the car had the same reaction of 'wtf is this', I understand how he was popular in 2010/ early 2011 but really... This? And it's currently no.10 in the iTunes UK chart. pluk
pluk
I couldn't agree more. When I first heard it I thought it was some sort of joke or an anti drug advert someone had persuaded him to do. Then it turned out to be real I assumed it was just me getting old and out of touch, nice to know it's not (only) that! Funnily enough I was listening to Boy In Da Corner earlier... ...where did it go so wrong?!
Deleted Users
This normally just turns into "Stop liking things I don't like!". I do miss Dizzee Rascals' older stuff but he was still fun a few years back live.
RideAddict
This song is OK. I have to say, Wild for the night by ASAP Rocky and Skrillex grows on me each day. My favourite lyric lately from any song is: I will not lose. No retreat, no surrender.
RideAddict
I was in Hollister yesterday (love that store), and as usual I was enjoying some of the music they play. Whenever I go in I've always noticed how crisp the music quality is and have always looked up at the speakers, thinking they were Bose. Yesterday, I noticed there is a large Bose speaker at the bottom of the shelf where the deodrant and fragrances are, opposite the till desk. Having seen this and then looked again at the normal speakers dotted around the shop, I think it's the 251 Environmental speakers: The only way of identifying these is the shape, as the front grills and logo have been taken off, exposing the inner speaker itself. Has anyone seen these in there, would anyone agree it's the 251 Environmental?
Luke_A
Ahh yes I do love the atmosphere in Hollister, always good loud music. Yeah I think you'd be right that they use the 251's in some stores, although I never have known if it's them or the Panaray 302 A, seeing as they both look very similar! I also noticed some FreeSpace 203's in the changing rooms in my local store haha. http://worldwide.bose.com/pro/en_us/web/fs_203_loudspeaker/page.html The Bass modules they use in Hollister are the Bose MB4 range, just put on their sides and sometimes with the logo taken off - http://worldwide.bose.com/pro/en_us/web/panaray_mb4_modular_bass_loudspeaker/page.html?term=faq&view=tree You can listen to the current playlist played in all stores nationwide here! The playlist changes every few weeks. http://www.hollisterco.com/hol/flash/music/music.html RideAddict
RideAddict
I don't think it's the MB4 range near the tills, the speaker is very wide with the logo badge in the horizontal position, and it's also quite curved. I can't understand why they take the fronts off though, I can understand not wanting to advertise Bose in a Hollister store, but I've seen unbadged speakers at the parks (the speakers minus only the logo badge). That playlist on their current website is out of date, there's songs on it from last summer that aren't played in the stores anymore. If anyone here is a Facebook user and wants to find some of the music, I suggest you "Like" the Hollister Vibe page on Facebook - every so often a picture of the list of latest songs is posted. RideAddict
A few months in and what do people here think of The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw? At first I wasn't too keen after they axed Chris Moyles. I spent half my life hating the bloke before listening for just over a year until they axed him. I only suddenly listened because his views are quite similar to mine, although people don't often like what he says. I never liked Grimmy either, but now he's been doing it a few months I don't mind how he's generally made the show his own. It certainly fits in with the rest of Radio 1's day. I didn't think I'd warm to it as much, but Grimmy is actually a good laugh. I'm also in to the 10 til midnight show with Phil and Alice. I don't listen every night, but what a comical pair! pluk
I had the opposite journey with Moyles to you. I had been a fan since he started on early breakfast and listened avidly for many years, until about two years ago when I just seemed to suddenly tire of him and switched off. I'd still tune in occasionally and find it amusing but kind of hard work to listen to. I really enjoy the new breakfast show. I liked Grimshaw anyway but wasn't too sure if it would work as breakfast (him not being particularly lively or slick), but he seems to get it just right. It feels natural and flows, it doesn't feel forced or fake like pretty much all the commercial station DJs do, especially on breakfast shows. Even though he is not exactly upbeat in his delivery the show seems to have an energy about it that sounds inexplicably fresh (I think they are using a cheeky little trick of slightly pitch bending the tracks up 1 or 2 %, so everything feels a bit pacey). I don't know that this is a particularly good sign though as I am not demographic for R1 and the age group Moyles was attracting was one of the big problems he had. Phil and Alice are OK but go on a bit to much for my liking. They play some excellent new music, but not enough of it with too much guff in between. Some of the night time specialist shows are so damn good, it's a shame they are tucked away in the middle of the night. B.Traits, Rob Da Bank, Benji B, Nihal and the essential mix I listen to on the iplayer every week (and so should everyone!). Such a shame they got rid of Kissy Sell Out, that was the best thing on the radio. RideAddict

I don't know that this is a particularly good sign though as I am not demographic for R1 and the age group Moyles was attracting was one of the big problems he had. I used to think Moyles was a moron. Yes, he said some stupid things before I liked him, but then I suddenly realised how good he actually is. I miss the show and banter, even if there was a lot of it. At the time of announcing the axe, I was thinking "no, not now, give him more time", but looking back now I'm split 50/50 on that opinion. If there's anything I do miss it's the jingles. Maybe I should be called JingleAddict. I listen to them online sometimes and also Nick's breakfast theme. At first I could see how Grimshaw would work as breakfast, but I wasn't sure how well it would be. But now he's been in a few months it seems better than I thought it would be. Sometimes he would cover Scott or Greg on drivetime and be an arse. But Nick knows where to draw the line with things, whereas Moyles didn't and would keep clutching at straws. The new breakfast show is definitely more refreshing and feels more inline with the station's branding. To end; Zane Lowe - mad, a legend, and many other good things! Annie Max - just a legend for a girl, she rocks! I've never heard such good music from a female DJ! I'll miss her when she goes on maternity leave! Will
In the last two years, I've really begun to take a strong interest in 4 of these upcoming artists. Natalia Kills, who was signed by Will.I.am and is releasing her 2nd album in the Summer. Her best song is called Mirrors and she makes a lot of dark-sounding, pop music. She works with Jeff Bhasker (fun, Kanye West) and Emilie Haynie (Lana Del Rey) Neon Hitch, a gypsy who is known for her songs F U Betta and Gold (written by Bruno Mars) works with Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen, Pink, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Britney Spears). Randomly, someone I know from work, is actually good friends with her, surprise, surprise. Sky Ferreira, who has worked with Shirley Manson of Garbage as well as pop producers, 'Bloodshy & Avant' (Most famous for Toxic by Britneyy Spears) and has some really good songs like One, Obsession, Elevator, Red Lips and Everything Is Embarrassing. Porcelain Black, US female solo artist who went under the name of Porcelain and the Tramps was known for making industrial-sounding music and has finished making an album which is due in the summer. She is working with and was discovered by my favourite producer, RedOne of Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Nicki Minaj. What I really respect are 'artists' who write their songs and have creative control over their music, as opposed to other Popstars, who rely on songwriters to write their 'hits'. Seeing artists like Adele, Janelle Monae, fun, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran writing their own songs, maintains my faith in this industry. rollerross11
Smidget
Yeah but all Taylor Swift can sing about is falling in love and breaking up. Hardly original I'd say. RideAddict
A-Kid
It bugs me massively when everybody says that, because quite frankly its not true, if you look at the songs that arn't mainstream here. To be fair it is her primary subject she is interested in, but here are two examples off top of my head, Long Live (created for fans) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwsSvU2oNrg, Mean (about a critic) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFV6IkLx3Wc . But those songs are Country, so you will never see them over here unless its some obscure channel. Her current Pop'ing/'Urban'ing up kinda depresses me though, she was good at what she was doing, not so much this. Similar subject, I hate the way the music in the UK is forced by the media. Its like entire genres are made invisable. Its almost like its not because of popularity, its because they want to control what you see. According to the media, only 'trend Pop', R&B and Rock ever existed. But fortunately its still possible to see outside the box with a little effort. I just wish they would vary it up a bit. I tend to like most music, quite a chunk of it is Country, but personally I can only properly concider people "Artists" if they actually make the music. So songwriting, playing the instruments, (excluding effects like reverb) singing without vocal minipulation, control over their music/brand and how they are presented. Heres a nice few... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZgpVDNdrDo Suppose on the plus side, its different from the norm, so it makes me feel a bit unique over musical taste... thats good right?
