Henrymid
Theme does add to a ride, but you can still enjoy a ride without much/any theme just as much as you would another ride. Maverick and it's surrounding land is well themed, but then around Wicked Twister and Gatekeeper aren't themed, but as you are riding each one, you're not focusing on the theme really, mostly just the ride. Project LC
They have been hyping up an announcement and in the end it was saying that mantis is going. Anyone else think that all is not how it seems?
EC!
Or they maybe going ahead with the the main rumour which is that they are turning Mantis into a floorless coaster , makes sense when they say its getting squashed.
Project LC
It would be much better as a floorless. That is the first thing I said when I got off that it should just be a sit down.
Coaster
It seems strange to me the way American parks just rip out huge coasters...
EC!
They don't. 9 time out of 10 they move them to a different park, like Iron Wolf at SFGAm to Apocalypse at SFA and so on and so forth. Its either getting the conversion or being moved to another cedar fair park.
Tom
The 'take one last stand' also implies that they're not ripping out the coaster, but instead turning it into a sit down/floorless. If it was actually closing they wouldn't make such a joke video. Also comments are disabled to not allow public speculation.

EC!
Yes turtle but did the coasters I mentioned or mantis for that matter have major problems in reliability and did they injure people... No they didn't. in the case of B&M all of them that have been taken out of 1 park have been moved to another apart from time machine at freestyle which is still sbno. So I'm just saying if it was removed from cedar point chances are very likely it would be moved to another park. But IMO I think it would be a conversion. Benin
Whether it be via modification or removal, it'll be better than it existing in the current format... Stand-Up coasters are hideous... EC!

Deleted Users
Well have there been any B&Ms removed worldwide?
EC!
No in terms of scrappage which is not what I was getting at but as removals from 1 park to a different park then there are 6 different B&M's according to RCDB, 1 was relocated twice. Benin
The New Orleans Batman relocation wasn't really out of choice though it must be said...
Mark9
You could say the same for Monster. B&M's seem to have longevity on their side it seems.
Tom
Sign of a quality product? Or are they just too expensive for parks to justify scrapping? Bit of both; they're great and will often have more value as a coaster than as scrap metal
Benin
Hey look, it's a park that markets stuff towards enthusiasts as well! (from Twitter) pluk, JoshC. and coastercameron98

Project LC
mantis is becoming a B&M floorless sit down called rougarou. It seems to feed on screams.

Mark9
mantis is becoming a B&M floorless sit down called rougarou. It seems to feed on screams. Interesting. When I rode Riddlers at Magic Mountain, I thought it would be a much better sit down roller coaster then a stand up coaster. I'm sure this won't create a precedent for stand ups being converted with the Mantis change but it is kind of weird to see one take on the change. Benin
This is a good change, because I've never met a Stand-Up coaster I've enjoyed... Personally I'd rather see them burn, but retro-fitting to an alternative train type is a decent option as well...
pluk
If it feeds on screams surely this change will leave it hungry compared to now; no one screems like a man whos testicles are exploding. Has the potential to be dull, a stand up layout is generally quite tame to keep that position comfortable, the thrill itself coming from the standing novelty. Without that what has it actually got going for it? Kerfuffle
coastercameron98
So today is the day to "Take the last stand" - a competition to be on the last two standing trains is running. Guests have to find the tickets for the last two trains on certain staff member's lanyards or badges. The track itself has all be re-painted to orange now and the supports have been started. https://www.cedarpoint.com/online-fun/live-video-cam/camera-3 shows the progress so far
Project LC
Mantis was good but it will be far better as a sit down so not sad to see it go. Also Thorpe park seems to be doing a sort of tweetup thing today like cedar point does. Its one tiny step towards improving.
