  1. Merged with existing topic. Now that outlaw run is open and appears to have been something of a success I could see them going for something from Rocky Mountain who can provide something a bit different, and I certainly wouldn't complain about that! Looks awesome.
  2. General cable car accident article...
  3. No they are not. 'Use by' is essential food safety advice. Some rather innocuous seeming foodstuffs can do really nasty things when they are off, and often you would have no way of knowing (smell, taste, appearance) that they were harmful. There will always be a margin of error built in, but that is for good reason! 'Best before' could be seen as a con, but the problem is people's lack of understanding and sense with it, not the dates themselves being on there. It is just advice for best quality, a lot of it will be fine years 'out of date', just not quite as tasty.

    Jobs..

McDonalds look after their staff a lot better than most high street retailers. You just have to get used to smelling of chip fat.
  5. That is impressive, well done!! But your are setting the bar too high for me!! No way I'll have shifted that much...
  6. Nicer news on this thread for a change. Remember the girl that wasn't caught by the nets on Terminal Velocity a couple of years back? She's recovering well, and has a dog to help her... http://www.wisn.com/news/south-east-wisconsin/milwaukee/Girl-hurt-on-Wis-Dells-ride-meets-companion-assistance-dog/-/10148890/19704470/-/twr6im/-/index.html
  7. Vampires do exist. Have none of you seen Blade?
  8. See what I did there? 0/10 - Stealing your image from Thorpes website. Put some effort in and take your own pic.
  9. This is a good idea! I think I'll join you on your quest if I may and become your slimming buddy? I've always been big since my late teens but held my weight fairly steadily. Then I gave up smoking last January and in a year I creeped up to a fairly disgusting 17st 2lb. Mid Jan this year I started dieting and was pretty successful losing 1 stone in three weeks. The diet was simple - count my calories and do a sensible amount of activity. I 'm not allowed more than 1500 calories in any day and it is scarily easy to achieve, just showed me how much too much I must usually shovel in without thinking about it! For various reasons though I fell out of the habit and stopped. Today I weighed myself, expecting to have put most of that stone back on, but was pleasantly surprised to find I hadn't. So today I restart at 16st 3lb and am back on the calorie counting. I'm not going to set myself a hard timed weight goal, but just a goal of sticking to the diet instead and that should work for itself. Overall I'd like to get to about 15 stone before this summer, I'll weigh in each Wednesday and report back here...
  10. If this is how it's been then no wonder they've closed it now rather than waiting until Smiler opens!
  11. That was just after it opened. I don't think they toned it down as such, just removed a rock in the middle of the flow just before the tunnel which had caused a kid to fly out of his boat and slice his ear off when he struck it. As far as I know it has been basically the same ever since, I've not noticed any significant difference over the years. Roughness isn't something that can be changed that much

As well as agreeing with that could I also ask that if you see it happen could you report the post please. It doesn't take a sec and we may well not notice it otherwise.
  13. That's what I was talking of too, the one in the queue line is great little gag. Even having seen the films that stretch just makes no sense, I can't see that anything actually happens other than the noise? The flash of prop on one side followed by a twang and prop springing up as if it has just flown in front of the faces of the riders on the other side is one of the oldest tricks out there as well as quite easy to produce and very effective. That would have worked, rather than whatever it is that's there.
  14. The scaffolding company advert, like you'd get on someones house extension, offends me for some reason.

Which is quite right of them, I'm glad they've played it this way. Just let it be there, no fuss or shouting about it. They could have promoted is as the new big shiny turd and disappointed everyone when it turned out to be the old turd polished a little bit, but they didn't. And now people will discover it for themselves and be pleasantly surprised instead.
  16. This year it does feel slightly faster and rougher to me, especially the little wave pool area. It is flowing nicely. It's a great little ride and other than a bit of love to the tunnel and queue line it is pretty much fine as it is. Also... From the thread titled 'Thorpes best water ride' And then today What you on?

    fright nights

The queues James is speaking of are an extreme and not the norm. Towards the start of the FN season away from the weekends are often dead, literally a few minute queues for rides and mazes, which is great but the atmosphere suffers as a result. I'd rather a quiet park and get on everything comfortably but some rather the crowds and buzz, depends what you are looking for really. I'd recommend Alton over Thorpe. It's only opinion of course but Terror of the Towers and The Sanctuary are the best two mazes in the country, there's more to chose from at Thorpe but none of them are quite as good. Towers also has an amazing atmosphere for Scarefest, the park lends itself well to darkness and lighting, Thorpe sometimes feels a bit funfair to me which in some ways can't be helped because of the size and in some ways is because they don't put the park wide effort in and rely solely on the mazes. Either way I'd strongly recommend the halloween events in general, you should give them a try.

    Television

Unfortunately it seems to be passing by a bit unnoticed, but either this is really very funny or I'm just odd http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00wwryv/Its_Kevin_Episode_1/ Been four so far and just gets better. I love it, wife hates it. Reminds me a lot of the Paul Merton series from the 90's, that's another one to watch if you get the chance.
  19. I don't think the airguns work as a scene or moment of interaction at all. I've looked and looked, I can't work out what they are trying to depict. It is just a corridor of noise.

    The Smiler

It's been a bone of contention for forever and I'm pretty sure always will be. For me, you can no longer say you are the right way up beyond sideways at 90 degrees - so at 91 degrees you must be inverted! If your feet are higher than you head you are technically upside down. BUT, I've always thought each time your body passes through the halfway point at 180 degrees (exactly upsidedown) is where an inversion in terms of a coaster should be recorded. Which leaves something like Swarms inclined loop as not an inversion when you are patently not the right way up. Easy to see how it is hard to agree on an answer. I think with The Smiler though, every inversion we are aware of passes through the 180 degree exactly upside down point?
  21. It used to work, as a shower just like the end of the flume. Not sure if it ever does any more, if it is permanently knackered or if it is turned on hot days only?

  23. First Thatcher dies, now this. What a day. (JK, don't get upset!)
  24. All of this would fit in at Adventure Island... It does fit in, they have one called vortex. It's alright - not the best example out there.
