Garyy
I don't really remember the ride but I thought it might be worthy of disscussion.
S Bundy
It was nothing speacial and I was glad to see it go and now that samurai is there I think it was a great replacement.
NickD
I find it a shame that Calgary Stampede was replaced by Samurai , this is because Samurai was alot better at Chessington as it needed a Thrill Ride.

Was a Spinning flat ride or something? I don't remember ever seeing it.
Cringle
Some kinda Waltzer probably - but more importantly...Me and Chelsea from Sp found the old Calgary Stampede!!! in Mudeford of all places in the summer. IslandSheriff
I always thought that ride was hideous.
richy2001
to be honest, calling it calgery stampede was a bit wierd, it never resembled a horse or anything even horse related, but it was a good ride when it was in operation, but samurai is more at home at thorpe than calgery stampede, for one it gets the queuescalgary stampede in operation at thorpe before it was replacedimage from thorpeparkguide.com:
treeis
wow that looks fun
Jamie_Hk
It was. It was like, the scariest ride for me back when it was at Thorpe =]I definitely agree with the fact that it was out of place and didn't really suit its name.Never mind anyway, Samurai was indeed the perfect replacement. Dan9
I'm not sure it was the best idea to put a control box where the GP can go though.
Fred
I'm not sure it was the best idea to put a control box where the GP can go though.Yeah I know, that is stupid. No other rides at thorpe do that.. apart from rocky, all the small rides, rush to some extent..
AJ
I really miss that ride, when it left the park I was gutted. I remember at one point how scary I thought it all was and for some reason the ride attracted a lot of wasps - the amount of bins in it's queueline...That was one of my favourite rides at the park at the time, and for me samurai just hasn't replaced it properly for me (not that I'm saying it's a bad ride, I just can't move on from the fact when it was once great)With regards to it fitting into the area, I can understand even though at the time didn't really notice that much - it just belonged - but regarding it's name after a hard long think the only conclusion I could think of how the name came to be was:1) Needs that cowboyish name to fit in with Canada Creek2) At the time it was one of the fastest most intense rides so that's how 'stampede' came into the equation3) (far fetched one) 'Calgary' relates to the horses/ cowboy, and on horses cowboys did Lassos(?) Lassos(?) are circle shaped at an angle, which was how the ride kinda operated....
Elliot
It was a fair ground ride but it looked relaly fun, the year I was tall enough for the 1.4s it was repalced by samurai, I was dissapointed as it looked really fun but I've always loved samurai. TimR
It looks like a fairground ride which doesnt suit thorpe park since its a theme park
themeparkmad
I am glad Calgary Stampede went as Samurai is much better!
Matthew
I enjoyed Calglary Stampede while it lasted, despite its camp colour scheme, it was pretty 'nifty'. Samurai seems just a bit out of place.
Sam P
Samurai was a good replacement.
Paul
If they just got rid of those hidous bulbs and re-themed it to a canadian style, it would have made a mush better attraction. It was a good ride, but visually, just out of place.
Sam P
It was to colourful to fit in.
Paul
It was to colourful to fit in.I agree, it was very colourful, but for me those bulbs just made it look like more of a carnival attraction that a permanant one in a theme park. However, with all of those bulbs it must have looked pretty impressive at night
Sam P
I never saw it at night lit up bet it looked good.
BBQChris
Click HERE for some information on the actual Calgary Stampede. I read something about it a while back, and in my opinion, it couldn't have had a better name for the ride/area. Great ride too back in the day, but looking back, the colour scheming wasn't all that good, along with the actual ride structure. I do remember the queue line being a massive cattle pen alongside a rock facade, like the back section of CCR.

pluk
I believe some found it recently on the travelling circuit on Facebook? Ā There should always be a place for simple old flat rides, a bit of theming would be nice, but not essential. I still miss it from the line up. Queue chewing fun. Lewis.
I used to love this ride. I remember running straight back around into the queue more than once during a visit. I must have only been 6/7 years old, maybe even younger. Back in the 90s when Thorpe had a lovely warm atmosphere and wasn't run by an evil corporate machineĀ ?
