Alton Towers General Discussion

The thing is: we haven't actually had a press release and Alton Towers social media has said very little. All the information has come from people checking the website and writing reports on it.

It took them what, over a day to confirm that the website was wrong? This isn't a PR exercise, it's too much of a shambles for that. The message hasn't been controlled in the slightest.

This is your unique opportunity to make your mark on the Alton Towers Resort. Each brick will be engraved with your unique message and will be installed at the entrance to our Theme Park in our Admissions Plaza. There are two different colours of engraving available, gold and purple. Don't miss this chance to make your mark on the park!

£50 to have a message engraved on the new plaza bricks

For the record, I don't think it's a bad idea, much like the sponsored Stealth seats... And I bet it's a darn sight cheaper than what people had to fork out for the ones at DLP...

Like, I find it kinda weird that people are hating Merlin for such an idea? There's much bigger issues than charging people (who might have some real personal connections/stories to the park) to have some temporary statement of that...

There's a subtle difference between "hating Merlin" and finding the idea stupid. Maybe in the right circumstances the idea would be more well recieved? Like you said Benin, there's far worse things happening at the moment, address them, then give us a reason to want this commemorative brick thing.

Having never heard of this being a thing in other parks, I'd certainly say Disney makes far more sense anyway.

This weekends Services Day event at Towers has been cancelled and new date of 11th March.

Unfortunately, the extremely cold temperatures this week have affected our ability to offer guests our full theme park experience. So after careful consideration, and in consultation with the Met Office and Blue Light Card, we’ve taken the difficult decision to postpone the ‘Services Day’ event until Sunday, 11th March. Our Waterpark and Hotels will still be open this weekend, offering a great family escape and a full programme of entertainment.

We always want our guests to enjoy a fantastic time here at the Towers, and so would like to offer everyone who was booked to visit or stay this weekend the option to return on Sunday 11th March or, if that date isn’t possible, at another point during the 2018 season when we can be sure to offer them the full ‘Alton Towers’ experience.

The park is open this weekend but they don’t expect to run rides due to the weather.

Here at Alton Towers Resort, we can’t wait to welcome guests for the 2018 Theme Park Season.

We intend to open the theme park as planned this weekend, and our hotels are fully open as normal.  However, the worsening weather forecast over the last 24 hours – with below zero temperatures, snow and high winds now forecast – mean it’s looking unlikely we’ll be able to operate our rollercoasters this weekend, including Wicker Man, our new thrill attraction.  We are currently expecting to open CBeebies Land, Mutiny Bay and Sharkbait Reef by SEA LIFE as usual.

We’ll continue to monitor the situation and post any updates about ride openings on our social media channels.

Very poor customer service to not have the revised closed time plastered all over their social media channels and website (unless it’s magically appeared now)

So aside from Wicker Man, Alton Towers was absolutely dire on Sunday.

  • Wicker Man didn't open until 12 noon, broke down again after two trains, so we didn't get on until 12:30 despite having arrived at 8:30 in the morning to be there for the "ERT"
  • Ride testing on Wicker didn't start until gone 9:30am
  • Staggered openings of coasters are awful as it means everyone goes to Wicker first, which inevitably wasn't ready (new ride anyone??)
  • Removal of single rider queues makes it very difficult to get all the coasters done in an already short day, we missed out on loads
  • Skyride closed all day made it even more difficult to get a decent ridecount
  • No extension to opening hours despite terrible reliability, capacity and park operations
  • Hex already feels tired and the sound system in the ride section wasn't working properly
  • Some of the changes in Duel are nice, but the screaming room is still terrible?  Like, the new paintwork is nice but the lights still highlight the workings more than the faces themselves :(

Such a shame to see Alton in such a mess, especially when Wicker Man is such an outstanding coaster... the park deserves better.
