There will be a LOT of new rides this year, as the event is set out to be much bigger, including Hangover The-Tower(85m), Airmaxx Smashing Jump, City Skyliner, Heartbreaker and plenty more attractions to be announced.

In terms of pricing, it will be similar to last year with smaller flat rides costing £3-£5 and larger flat rides and rollercoasters at £6-£8. The coasters from last year will all be returning and favourites Air, Gladiator, XXL, Ski jump and Winter Wonderland express are all confirmed to return. A full line up/event map shall be released shortly.

sadly City Skyliner is no longer attending. it was meant to attend BUT the owners pulled out quite a while ago.

CAPRIOLO? :o:wub:

The Turbine was alright but the gondolas didn't seem to flip as fast/intensely as a Capriolo! I've been desperate to get back on one since I went on one 3 years ago, it was one of the most intense flat rides I've done ^_^

The line up looks amazing, I think I'll definitely be spending more time on the rides at the London meet! May have to go twice! It's the only fun fair I ever visit (the joys of living in boring, suburban Crawley, miles from everyone else...)!

How did you guys get the full list of rides, and is it accurate? The only page I've found that mentions the rides is the unofficial FB Winter Wonderland page, but you'd have to trawl through loads of comments and stuff to compile that list like TPJames has :P

Yes it is accurate :) the hyde park winter wonderland unofficial page is the best one for the ride line ups!!! it is a very exciting year for WW!!! also hangover seems like it is going to have a onride video or photo (like a coaster would have)!!!! Hangover has this machine which you use your self and then you can buy either your video or photo(not sure which one it's having!!)

The lineup has virtually been released officially for a few days now via the park map on the official site

http://www.hydeparkwinterwonderland.com/content/downloads/Winter-Wonderland-PRINT-Map_5.11.pdf

Ah I should've made it clearer; I meant how did people know what type of ride each one is :P The map only mentions the names of the rides, it doesn't say what the actual rides are.

Glad XXL is returning too, that was awesome! Kicked Vortex's ass ;)

All those rides (and it does look a very good lineup) but still no Togada? Togadas work so well at busy places like this, you don't see enough of them.

A little less realistically, does anyone think we will ever be graced with Holenblitz's (sp?) presence at Winter Wonderland?

Hollenblitz's owners want it to attend WW but the staff who work and travel with the ride do not want to leave their families at xmas time so therefore it can't attend at the moment

Well they can just employ all the UK based chain-smoking Eastern Europeans who work all the other Winter Wonderland rides then!

Sounds promising though, fingers crossed.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just got back from the Winter Wonderland Hyde Park Preview Event 2015!

The layout is very different this year, please be aware you will NOT be permitted entry at Hyde Park Corner and you must enter through Knightsbridge/Marble Arch.

It was great to take a first look at the event this year and I'm not going to lie I thoroughly enjoyed my evening however I much preferred last years layout, although this years should massively help with crowd control.

Atmosphere was alright tonight, the pathways were pretty bare but most of the rides were going with queues. A lot of rides were operating with little/no atmosphere whatsoever though, for example there was no music on ski jump/turnpike (although this was between 9-9:30 and they were supposed to have closed so thumbs up for keeping them open extra). Snow Jet had a particularly amazing atmosphere tonight, probabaly one of the best ride atmospheres I've seen in a while.

As it was a preview night, you have to arrive and expect some attractions to be SBNO. Topspin, Daemonium Ghost Train(largest in the world) and Bayern Breaker weren't operating all night. To add onto this, Hangover the Tower closed early(I shall explain later) and so did Gladiator turbine as well.

Total ride/attraction count:

Magical ice kingdom x2

Apres Ski Funhouse x1 (Highly reccomend this, it's brilliant!)

Irrengarten Funhouse x1 (also highly reccomended)

Fear haunted house walkthrough x1

Haunted Mansion x1

Euro Coaster x1 (awful ride!)

Wild Maus XXL x1

Airwolf x1

WW Express x1

Ski Jump x1

Turnpike x1

Yeti Ride x1

Maximum Capriolo x2

I've probably missed something out, there's so many rides this year it's ridiculous and there was no where near enough time to get on everything.

Overall it was a very good evening and some rides stayed open slightly later too (although this meant we couldn't find any open foodstalls after our last ride). However, I was only slightly miffed about one thing. Ovbiously nothing can be done about it and it gives me an incentive to return but we unfortunately didn't get on Hangover the Tower this evening. As I was looking forward to this most, I was annoyed that I didn't snatch up the opportunity to go on it upon entry while it was operating. We went back to the attraction at about 7pm, joined the queue and waited a couple of cycles. The ride would do two drops, at 40m and at 85m. However, after the 40m drop, while we were in the queue, the ride would try to reach 85m but would only go up to 40. The operator would say "sorry wrong button..." and then it would try again. After about 3 attempts, it finally went to the top and then dropped. We were then one cycle off and it happened again. So they cleared the queue and closed the ride to try and fix the problem. Operations were resumed about an hour later for about 5 cycles just before we got over there to try it out again, the same problem happened and then it just shut down for the rest of the evening.

It's a shame we didn't get to ride it but I'm sure I'll have the chance again at WW in the next six weeks and it is a very impressive machine, so I am very excited to ride it in the future!

How is the preview event ticketed these days? I remember getting some through American Express a few years back, but they seem to have stopped that relationship now.

By the purchase of a wristband on the event's charity website:

http://www.supporttheroyalparks.org/events/winter_wonderland

Wristband includes stuff like the Ice Kingdom, Circus, Ice Rink and Wheel as well as the rides I believe. Think it was £40-50 for a wristband this year

Tickets are sold about 2 months before the event through the Royal park's website. Wristbands were sold at £50 and were sold out within 3 days this year.

Preview night is good fun although if you want the "full experience" then you're not going to get that despite paying £50. Lots of stalls, decorations, music, lighting, rides haven't been finished off yet so it's good if you want an overview of what this year's event is going to be like, but if you want to experience it properly, you have to go once the event opens and fork out money for each attraction you want to go on.

I did thoroughly enjoy it and hopefully going back again next year, but I've certainly got incentive to return as I've still got a lot of the event to experience this year due to closed rides/attractions and lack of atmosphere, lighting, scenery etc in certain areas of the event.

I went to WW last night and it's SO much better than previous years! although the only one entrance in is not great since it's far away from any decent tube stations.... anyway though Black Run (extreme) is a great ride and also Rock Rage was working really well! Hangover is an amazing ride like both drops have quite a lot of force to them but it only has one downside which is it has these things which poke you in the back when you are going up and I guess they are meant to be a bit funny but they were so annoying!!!!

what was the fear haunted house walkthrough like?? was it like a scaremaze?? :)

It's a relatively small attraction, which is basically a themed walkthrough experience with anamatronic effects.

It's mildly scary IMO, but if you find the other ghost trains at winter wonderland scary, then you are likely to be terrified. Without going in to too much detail, it's not particularly full on but there are long periods of tension in dark corridoors and there are some relatively disturbing scenes with figures being tortured etc.

As it was a preview night, I don't know if they would do anything to up the "scare factor". They may possibly add one live actor or something as the other ghost trains tend to do this (Haunted Mansion had two live actors last year but none on the preview this year).

Went through today.  No live actors, but the long dark corridors and sudden effect starts make it very un-nerving - and GREAT for only £3.

The huge ghost train (new for this year) had live actors inside and they do startle.  The live actors inside the Haunted Mansion Ghost Train also do startle.

It's ironic... the scare maze has no actors and the ghost trains have them!

I had a lovely time at Hyde Park on Saturday evening. Only did 1 ride (Wilde Maus) because, no matter what anybody says about London, the bottom line is that the rides are a horrendous price (more than 1 hour on minimum wage for many of them).

However, the live music and food was great. Lovely atmosphere.
