Wednesday 30th July PARK OPEN: 10am - 10pm RIDES CLOSED: Drenched, Bounce, Pirate Ship, Clown Coaster, Train BREAKDOWNS: Megafobia (about 30 mins), Skull Rock (twice, 10 mins each time), Vertigo (about an hour). Before visiting, I phoned up the park asking if there were any ride closures, and was told that the pirate ship was closed but that everything else is open. On arrival, we saw that Bounce was also closed, which was a disappointment. Naturally we went to Megafobia first after entering the park, which was running a one train service with an hour's worth of queue (which took 1hr 15mins), with the fast pass queue going down the exit. Once in the station we realised …

N.B. The Blog seems to dislike the majority of my pics, so have a pic-heavy topic instead! Day 1 – TusenFryd The hype for this jaunt to Sweden had built to unbelievable levels. A massive group of coaster goons, 3 Swedish parks, with Helix at the forefront of this trip, meant that the flight to Gothenburg went pretty quickly. We start our report in Norway though, as a few of us turned up for the weekend trip early for cultural times (of which there are no photos, but Gothenburg is alright), and Norwegian creds. First thing you do notice about TusenFryd is the location and surrounding area. Its hill-side forest setting gives the park overall a…

So this weekend its the river festival in bedford and there is always a funfair for it! Before I get into my report I shall do a ride count Danter's Superstar - 2x Parrish's Extreme- 1x (it was having technical problems and me and luke waited about 3 minutes before the safety bars opened so we could get on the ride!) Stokes's Dream's Live - 1x Ghost Train - 1x Matthew's Tango - 1x Miami -1x Wallis's Vertigo Booster - 1x So onto the rides! Danter's superstar is probably the best superstar travelling in the country and it was my first ever superstar! Very intense yet relaxing! It also had air gates for the exit and entrance which is really neat! It was along th…

In 12 hours, I'll be navigating my way through busy streets of a working day London, trying to embark on a mystical, magical, really really long 4 week trip to America! America, the land of Hershey, Hot Dogs, guns, awesome natural phenomenons and of course... theme parks! I plan (and probably won't follow) to take you on the journey with me as much as I can, by recording parts of my journey in pictures and write ups on this page! I'll try and post pictures from each major visit I go on... E.G. Each time I visit a new state, theme parks, natural wonders (like Niagra falls, Ucemity...) Hopefully my reviews and reports will give people an insight of what I enjoyed and…

[As Blogs are currently not working, I'm gonna pop all my trip reports into one easily accessible area. Love you all.] As some of you may know, I've been over in California for two weeks embracing the west coast. In that time Chris and I visited five new theme parks and went on some of the most well known rides out there. So to start off with; Six Flags Discovery Kingdom I don’t know many people that have been to this park so for me, it would live or die based on how my trip was to go. The day started relatively badly. A heavy hangover from the Eurovision celebrating the night before meant some hangover coffee and food was required from Starbucks. Nevertheless, we s…

Saturday 24th May: Evening Wristband 5pm - 9:30pm Sunday 25th May: Daytime Wristband 10:30am - 5pm The two dark rides are the main draw for us at Fun City (namely Astro Storm and Terror Castle), but there are various other rides and coasters which make a visit worthwhile. Astro Storm is a ride I really enjoy, partly because I like the ride and what Brean have done with it but also for sentimental reasons. In my opinion it is better at Brean than it was at Blackpool because it runs faster and it's better in the pitch black with effects triggering as you go past them. Terror Castle is a ghost train in it's most extreme form. It's a constant bombardment of graphic horr…

Hello everybody! I guess some regulars here will know me as I've attended a meet and plan to visit Chessington with you this weekend. (otherwise I'm quite quiet apart from in the chat). Now, as a few of you are aware, this year exams end quite early. And being in exam season, I get essentially 13 weeks of summer holiday this year. Now, what normal rollercoaster enthusiast would spend this time sitting around twiddling thumbs and playing RCT3. Well the answer is me last year, but this year, after joining this wonderful community, I want to give something back, especially to people who are free, or my sort of age. This year, I plan to organise up to 3 mini meets, with me…

Blackpool Pleasure Beach was in fantastic form all week. Having a season pass proved to be a good move as I was in and out of the park all week. Also, I'm hoping to return later in the year. It's still my favourite park by a mile, nothing else in the UK even comes close! The blend of old and new rides and coasters works really well, and I much prefer the old woodies (aside from Valhalla and The Big One). Wild Mouse was on good form (aside from an annoying trim brake), and the others were good most of the time. Grand National was running really well towards the end of the day, but lacked some of it's intent in the morning. I still prefer it to Megafobia, as when …

Had a few days booked at Barcelona and my last full day there happened to be Friday 11th April which was the first day of the 2014 season at Port Aventura so simply had to have a day there. We took the train from Barcelona Sants train Station looking forward to a good day presuming that the park would be lovely and quiet as it was the first day and schools in Spain hadn't quite finished for their holiday. But how wrong we were. The park was very busy and unfortunately didn't get on too many rides and have to say had the WORST queueing experience of my life. More on that further in the report Upon arrival at around 10:15 the queue time boards were not working and as we …

TL;DR - It was okay. Could do better. Why am I walking through corridors? First Merlin attraction of the year, London Dungeons. The last time I visited the London Dungeons it was based at London Bridge, located under a railway arch. The location was great, however, caused unnecessary pedestrian traffic, this is due to London still being set in the 1600's and having very narrow streets. You'd think after being flattened 80 years ago London would be redesigned for the 20th Century, but no.... we built it brick by brick back to how it was =/ . That's progress for ya'! So, back to the past, when I visited the dungeons a few years back I was left underwhelmed. The props loo…

My first visit to anywhere of 2014! so I visited Kings Lynn Mart for the first time on the 17th of feb and it was awesome! John Bugg JR presented his brand new Kmg booster which looks awesome! His KMG freakout Oblivion was there and I have to say it was running well and I actually now quite like it! My favourite Extreme was there and it was running very well and fast! There was a superbob which was VERY loud haha! If anyone is interested then here is my pictures from kings lynn on my facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.654710211257393.1073741826.373674509360966&type=1

Thought this was an interesting topic last year, so may as well do another one this year! So, what are your theme-park related plans for 2014? For me, there's chances of hitting up a couple of new UK parks. After not managing to fit a trip to Drayton Manor last year due to breaking my ankle, I'm very hopeful of getting my first trip in this year around summer-time. I'm hoping to make it to TPM's Oakwood trip this year as well, depending on dates and what exactly I'm up to during summer work-wise. There's also a slight possibility that I'll be making it to Adventure Island as well, though no idea with that one. Then, of course, a fair few visits to Thorpe, a couple…

As some of you may or may not know, today, the Derelict Dreamland site in Margate opened up to the public for the first time since 2006. The day offered people the chance to "take back Dreamland". This involved an inside look of the site as it stands now, proposals for its future as a Heritage Amusement Park as well as giving the community the chance to get involved with clearing the site for a 2015 opening. (I actually took so many pictures that even after shortening them down, the update is still too large. For that reason, I will split it into 2-3 sections.. Note that most of the pictures are of me touring the derelict site.) Having just disappeared into town for a…

Tired doesn't really cut the cheese when it comes to describing my state on Sunday 6th October at 07:00. Let me guide you quickly through the reasons why I was so tired. Firstly there was Friday, a day that started for me around 3:30am with me leaving the house at 5:45am and then this happened http://live.thorpenerd.com So after that I drifted off to sleep in a Travelodge at the end of a runway at Britains busiest airport back aching like a pitbull in a tutu. Till I woke myself up at 5am snoring. Saturday was here and I was awake, listening to Rob gently snore to himself. I lay there, trying to mentally mend my back by sending my internal repair nanobots to that area (I …

Last thursday me and Mum headed to Blackpool for a day in the park on the friday, but more importantly for me to Walk the Big One. Thursday night was to see the lights from ground level, and finally got on the Big Wheel on Central Pier. Friday in the park, headed straight to the Big One for the first ride of the day. One train on, and the last 2 cars were sandbagged all day, leading to the biggest queue of the day. Everything else was walk on, and on Big Dipper several times we had to wait for more people to arrive. Put it this way, it was nice to get on some woodies again, including 7 goes on the Wild Mouse, and managed to get on the last car of the day, Miffy I think.…

Oakwood is a park that I really enjoy, but always feel frustrated at in some way or another. This year it had much improved operations and staff wise, but some of the same problems were still there (although this didn't ruin our enjoyment too much). Megafobia was running brilliantly this year, and due to their After Dark event we got some rides on it in the dark! It was running well all day, but in the dark with rain at the end of the day (it runs faster at the end of the day) it was flying round the track! The staff running Megafobia were brilliant. It was only running one train, but dispatch times were very fast and the staff were really friendly, talking through t…

Hi all, I'm looking to head to Orlando for 2 weeks+ next year - due to work limitations this needs to be early in the year as well. I was originally looking at April, however after doing a bit of research it seems with Spring break this isn't a good time to go. I want to find a month that has nice weather (doesn't need to be scorching) along with the parks being quiet - the latter being the most important over weather. Would any of you be able to recommend a good month and any other general advice for Orlando? It seems International drive is the best place to be in terms of accommodation. Also would you be able to recommend any sites to keep an eye on in terms of …

Brean Leisure Park is a brilliant place located in Somerset, with an indoor and outdoor swimming pool (with waterslides), a brilliant crazy golf course (and huge proper golf course, although we didn't do this) and most importantly Fun City - home to Astro Storm (which was formerly Space Invader at Blackpool Pleasure Beach ) Fun City has two brilliant dark rides - which is great for an amusement park which in reality isn't massive (although does have quite a few quality rides). TERROR CASTLE is probably the scariest ghost train I have ever been on, and I have been on a lot. It is a constant array of loud noises, strobe lighting, scenes of horror (very gory) and fa…

A trip designed to visit one of the lesser countries in Europe known for its parks, even if it has 6 big parks, including one of the most visited in the continent, not much ever seems to come out of Denmark, so as such, this trip was created, organised and visited. Day 1 - Arrival and Copenhagen We arrived in the afternoon to a warm and humid Denmark, a certain surprise to the 4 of us who were travelling along, and it wasn't long until we realised the Danish way of life was completely different to our own. Very laid back, no expectations and a good versing in foreign languages, leading us to just speak English all week, such is the way of life. We picked up the car, fo…

SInce my little trip at Thorpe went so well I have decided to create another trip but this will happen some time in late august as it will involve at least 1 overnight stay but will mean, you get to come to Oakwood and see its new Themed area Neverland and also have a day out in Cardiff. Obviously this is a overnight trip so I wouldn't advise anyone under 15 to go. but this will be a great trip, we might even be able to visit the world famous Barry Island Beach and amusement park. Obviously it will be a tad more expensive then other day meets, and it does need planning so that's why I'm creating this now The confirmed dates are: August 31-september 1 plus it will be a…
