  1. Fright Nights 2018 - General Discussion

It would be really terrific is somebody could just make their mind up about what on earth they are doing. The erraticness of the delivery this year, from changing times to spelling errors to managing to copy Universal Studio’s marketing campaign is just painful. I have no doubt that the additional six days until announcement gives them six more days to determine what they can realistically deliver. It baffles me that every other resort or attraction across the globe have the confidence, knowledge and marketing strategies to announce their line ups with months until the event to allow for significant pre-book numbers and upsell opportunities. Once again, Thorpe Park’s Fright Nights screams last minute and rushed.

Who remembers when Thorpe did Halloween like this?

I like the idea of having actors in the rides if they can do that.

Baring in mind that I was significantly younger when I did Freezer, the main thing that sticks out in my mind with Freezer is that it had actual different scenes and progression. Asylum was effectively a corridor, a huge chain mesh section, and another corridor. And don't get me wrong, I get the purpose - an endless chain line maze which seems to go on forever where you're target by loads of people, but you don't know if it's 1 or 100, etc. But it just always felt repetitive for me - nothing exciting or interesting. Freezer had progression throughout the maze - you had different scenes (even if it was just 'prison bars' or a wall as opposed to mesh), different characters who would have different things to do. It had a build up. Asylum lacked that for me. As I say, I see why people loved Asylum, but that sort of scare attraction does little for me.

Some unpopular-ish opinions ready for Halloween The Sanctuary was a mediocre maze and the finale was one of the worst things to grace the industry.. A lacklustre strobe finale with barely any actors, even worse when TOTT was right next to it (has a similar finale but unlike The Sanctuary the finale was actually fun) The Cabin In The Woods in 2015/2016 was one of the worst mazes in Thorpe's history, thank god they scrapped it. Scarefest 2015 and onwards has been consistently better than FN in every way and it seems 2018 will be no different. I want FN to adopt the Scarefest style time slot system

Totally agree - Se7en was one of the few Merlin mazes which made full use of your senses, along with great set pieces, clever routes and well placed actors. Definitely underrated.

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the new attractions were just like dead end ?

Top 10 Fright Night mazes (been going since 2004) 1. The Freezer/Asylum 2. The Big Top (2016/17) 3. Se7en 4. Experiment 10 5. Hellgate 6. Cabin In The Woods 7. The Curse 8. My Bloody Valentine 9. Studio 13 10. Platform 15 (2017) I feel bad though leaving the world class Dead End Terror Zone and Sanctum off this list though!! Those two would have made the folks at Tulleys Shocktoberfest and Xtreme scream park think twice!!

Also a fright night related one!! I actually found Se7en to be one of the best mazes in the events history!! The amount of people that didn’t seem to like it to me was unreal. Yes, it wasn’t the chaotic crazy maze The Asylum was and wasn’t the jumpscarefest that Hellgate was and was definitely the weakest maze out of those 3 scares wise. However, it was designed to be disturbing and disgusting and it absolutely nailed that. That to me made it a terrific attraction and still better than most of what’s been at the event since it left by a million miles!! The “gluttony” and “lust” scenes!! ❤️❤️

Halloween is without a doubt, my least favourite time of year at theme parks. Nothing could interest me less then a bunch of dressed up students ignoring me too make some girls scream in a maze, or the park over run with people in the dark looking to make trouble.

My speculation confirmed: Saw, Living Nightmare, Platform 15, Containment speculation for other 6 attractions; 1. Blair Witch(basically confirmed) 2. Sanctum( relocation or different walking dead maze) 3. Walking Dead The Ride comes Alive 4. Zombie Hunt reopens 5. Roaming Actors/ Scare Zone 6. Cinema Show I hope I'm wrong but I don’t think we will see more than 2 new mazes. I think the majority of them will be experiences or ‘encounters’ as they describe it.

"Love Island: Too Late" maze rumours currently circulating, watch this space. Take a trip round the Love Island Like No Other where you witness the scary reality of grammar, the ability to form a sentence and any last semblance of intelligence disappearing before your very eyes ?
