People (usually just ride area managers or in-house scenic people if you're lucky) who do these zero-budget revamps don't often realise you cant actually just paint over a surface that's already been painted and expect it to last. That whole Rumba revamp was drab, drab, drab. But it's not really their fault, it's more that Merlin will just never pay for a proper job for something like that sadly2 points

TPM TP Opening Weekend Meet - Sat 30th March
Matt 236 and one other reacted to terrortomb for a topic
Thanks @Mattgwise for another fantastic TPM meet!! It was thoroughly enjoyable seeing the team again and discussing the best (and not so best XD ) moments of the new theme park season. For me personally, my highlight was seeing the new animatronics on Walking Dead the Ride, which I actually forgot were there until they popped out at the end of the ride in all their glory. I definitely feel animatronics are the way to go! For any members who haven’t been to a TPM meet before, I highly recommend coming along as we are like-minded, friendly people and it is great hearing the banter in person lol. Hopefully see you all again at the Chessington meet 2019!!2 points -

Based off previous tweets where they've mentioned times, they go off MST (since Tornado Springs is American, etc). 5pm MST is midnight tonight. So if something is going to happen, it may well be then. I'd personally only expect a hint at another ride and name rather than anything full blown though, if that.1 point

Can confirm, got wet. The rapids definitely seemed more intense than previous years.1 point

The new advert couldn't make it clearer the park was about being like other, instead of carefully placing it like the 2014 advert. In 5 years, we've gone from something professional to a YouTube top 5 video for why you should visit Thorpe. It really annoys me as island like no other has so much potential.1 point

Maybe it was her first day? Did you not have to learn on your first day at Thorpe? Also, suicide is no joke.1 point

Really? Our boat found it to be far more enjoyable and a couple got a soaking. I'm sure some of the pipes have been moved as well as there seemed to be one or two different rapid sections. As well as that the wave machine seemed slightly more aggressive as well. The paint work around the ride though, that's another story.1 point

That advert was so corny it made Love Island look authentic! Right, so I actually visited the park yesterday because it’s now back and open for another year. The dome looks both better and worse with the theming gone. Sure it was looking a little dated, but gave more character to the place. Whilst they are ‘’supposedly’’ doing it in phases, I will believe it when I see it as Merlin have a tendency to abandon stuff after Phase 1 because of funds and the managing team not being there. Nemesis Inferno didn’t look as clean as one would like and it’s a shame p, especially with their videos ‘’supposedly’’ saying it was. Shame they ran out of paint on the bridge. Least the operations seemed noticeably better and the ride experience excellent. Colossus does not look much better with it’s ever rusty paint scheme and the hideous looking concrete where there used to be water. Least it should maybe help with upkeep and reliability I suppose. The old theme being back is nice! Swarm somewhat looks the worse now which is shocking for the park’s newest coaster (7 years? Blimey). Even more theming has been removed (and not replaced) and whatever is left of the station building looks poorly maintained. By next season who’s to say all the station theming is removed leaving just an empty metal structure? Rumba Rapids just seemed tedious and less enjoyable compared to previous visits. Nothing really interesting seems to happen with the attraction now and the capacity seemed much worse than normal, probably because they are refitting the boats. The paint work they did just a couple years back looks dreadful and lots of the old colours are noticeable. Staff were hit and miss. Some were lovely and friendly, whilst others less-so and msybe didn’t know what they were doing, can’t say I blame them with how well they are treated. The ticket girl was useless (as it took 15 minutes to sort a pass ticket) and she had to ask two TLs/managers before actually sorting our ticket. Most of them looked unhappy tbh. I did not eat at the park and brought lunch (meal out after), but heard many say the food this year wasn’t as good. Fins had a limited menu, Pizza and Pasta noticeably less tasty and Wilderness not being anygood at all. The car park was just as awful too! The Old Town area just looks a right dump with it’s abandoned rides, rundown buildings and garish clashing kids rides plonked into the corner. I honestly just wish the park would redevelop the area whilst somewhat keeping Rocky, which is the only draw to the area now. Right onto more positive things. The Walking Dead Ride was great and loved the addition of animatronics at the end of the ride and live actors. Saw looked more refreshed and aesthetically is probably the best looking coaster, ironic for a horror theme. The Tidal Wave Area looks nicer, but the ommitted shortcut bridge is disappointing. The Coke Freestyle is great and makes me happy to see at the park. At £10 (£8 for pass holders) it’s acceptable value especially when you can fill it up several times from anything from cherry coke to Fanta fruit punch! So not a brilliant day, but not terrible either. Some of the smaller things seemed better, but the bigger things not so much. There was still a feel of the ‘’Classic Thorpe problems” despite 90% of the staff/management changing in the last few years, but I guess Rome wasn’t built in a day.1 point

I thought the opposite and that it didn't look as bad in person compared to the photos. The dome especially didn't really bother me. You should have said you were on park, we could have said hi!1 point

Colossus yes I agree with, however Inferno + Swarm and the dome I completely disagree with! I see no problem with Inferno apart from the chewing gum which is hardly a big issue if you think about it. Swarm I see no issue at all with great operations. The new dome looks modern, clean and in the 21st century!1 point

Thorpe deserve some credit for a lot of the small things they've done over the closed seasons. New restriction boards for basically all rides, signs around the park directing people, continued good quality landscaping around the park. Then the small touches of paintwork are good. Sadly this is largely lost and overshadowed by the big things, like the state of Colossus, Inferno, Swarm, the quality of audio, the dome's stripped back emptiness, etc. And these are the things that truly matter and should be focused on. Hopefully the small touches are a sign of things to come. But when they're easy things to get right, and the big problems have been problems either for years or a long time coming, I remain cautious.1 point

Small family park makes huge 'second in the world to Disney' multinational organisation look like amateurs. This is the most exciting development in the UK as far as I care to remember. This century probably. I adore everything about Paultons.1 point
