In my defence I'm not just a wimp! 😃 Goudrix has been retracked since I visited and supposedly is immeasurably better than it was before. Imagine your second ride magnified. I'm not going to forgive that contraption its sins.

Sad to hear you didn't like Zeus, I thought it was incredible. Hopefully it's just you having bad taste and not that they've let it deteriorate!

Blimey,  that's a hell of a write up; I feel like I've been there myself after reading that!

I didn't realise how easy it was to get to, certainly on my to do list.

For my part, I continue to occasionally visit Merlin parks because they do have some great thrilling coasters which I want to ride. I can't help wanting to ride them and there really isn't much of an alternative that is reasonably accessible.
Having said that, Chessington hasn't been good enough for me to considering visiting for about 4 years, Alton's reduced line up last year wasn't enough to entice me up the M1, I doubt the coming year will either but I don't suppose I'll be able to resist the woodie.

I can't help but enjoy myself on most rides, I find it fun and that feeling in that moment can't really be lost. For may years though, whenever I'm at a Merlin park, I feel like I enjoy myself in spite of what what the park do rather than because of it. It's like the powers that be actively try and piss me off and sap the fun and escapism out of what they have already created in the way they run and develop the parks. It's a shame.

Looking for the positives in the parks (and in life!) is a good idea; there are things to enjoy, things to be entertained by, small improvements which may have been made. I think it wrong to particularly celebrate these little things though while the very core of the parks is rotting away.

Thanks for these, love reading reports of places I've never heard of and will almost certainly never go to. Some very interesting and unusual parks there, I'm normally up for trying everything but some of those contraptions look genuinely risky!

Their entrance looks stunning at night, I'll give them that!

I really must get myself there again soon. Having been spited by Nash twice it is probably the biggest coaster in the UK I've not ridden. I hve to agree with Marks thought about your favourite coaster; I do love a lot of what is at BPPB, PMBO sucks balls though.

Helix cost just over £21m, but I guess the difficult landscape could add to the cost.  According to Wikipedia, Blue Fire cost between £5.5m-£6.5m without "decorations", which I guess means theming.  Alpina Blitz at Nigloland only cost £5.5m as well.

So they certainly seem quite affordable, and at say £6m, it's not unreasonable to say that one of the smaller parks here could splash out and get a smaller one.  I do wonder if the lack of Mack is because the parks are waiting for more to be made, to see how good the quality is - I don't think Mack have done many major coasters for example.

Great read, I'm glad the SLC never came off!
I don't think the cause of the fire has ever been confirmed, rumours of the cigarette butt have always been about I've never seen it reported as fact and I've looked quite a bit. Would be interesting to know what actually happened, or if they even got to the bottom of it themselves. Fire investigations are often inconclusive, what with most of the evidence being on fire.

You should have packed Storm Surge in your case and dumped it back there.
Looks like a nice clean fresh park, if things like Splash Battle are going round empty is it not doing very well, or was it just a bit cold for it?

Eurgh, the drop n shop sign.
Shows everything wrong about the place sometimes. Attention to detail. A completely white building? Next to a building blatantly designed to show old floodwater damage? Fantastic.

I have to agree that Thorpe have been pretty consistently strong the whole of this season, I also couldn't be doing with Chessingtons poor poor show more than once and even Smiler aside, Alton was all a bit lacklustre in what should have been a year to shine.
The one thing that concerns me about this is what the money (wo)men will read into it. The park with nothing new smashing budgets and pleasing guests, the two parks with new large additions failing horribly on nearly every indicator. What would you do in the future if it were your money? The last thing we need is for any reasons not to invest!
I hope Merlin take something from this season, and that thing is the need for proper, considered, unrushed planning. One way or another, their parks various failings have been almost all their own doing.

I know I rode both a fair few times, but with the passing of time they have merged into one in my head and it's all a bit hazy, which is a shame. I don't recall anything being particularly 'jumpy', it was more an overall spooky and atmospheric thing.
The ballroom scene, the banquet scene and Sweeney Todd stick in my mind. Watching that video reminded me of that bell that slowly rang and for no reason at all terrified me! Had totally forgotten about that. But my clearest memory is of the ride loading station itself, which felt so grand and complete surrounded by skeletons up in the ceiling with the constant procession of cartridges circling around below before disappearing into the darkness.
I remember loving it, I just wish I could remember exactly why!

Listening to that Jeremy Healey mix. This is what I was expecting, opening with Leftfield... why ohh why didn't they play any Leftfield? Even Mars, pump Up The Volume - It really makes me realise how much excellent music they just ignored. Ho Hum, I think Leftism is the album Ill play in the pub jukebox tonight.
