coasterverse reacted to MattyMoo in Hyperia - New for 2024
Not being funny but if it takes 20 minutes to get up the lift hill the queues are going to be horrendous and in my view this is just another way of Merlin exploiting fasttrack sales.

coasterverse got a reaction from Stuntman707 in Hyperia - New for 2024
this project has turned out to be one questionable decision after the other to be honest - don't get me wrong - I absolutely cannot wait to ride - but everything from the station building, planned landscaping, lack of a viewing platform, queueline etc has been pretty disapponting thus far.
I also personally find thorpe's generous (putting that lightly) overuse of the gold colour super tacky. if it was used as a highlight colour against a black station, it would look so much more elegant. also a little confused by the black and gold colourscheme of the station, queue etc but the actual coaster itself is white and gold? wouldn't a white and gold station have fit the aesthetic better than a black and gold one..?

Yep, Detonator really looked nothing like the concept art did it... Oh wait.

I love it when Jack comes back every year or so to complain about Fastrack at Thorpe.
It's like when Steve posts every now and then to tell us how **** Merlin are. It's like a comfort blanket.

Damn I'd forgotten about this.
Swarm was also meant to have a viewing area of sorts that took you up to the helicopter.
There's a reoccurring theme here....

I wonder if you’ll still be able to see the splashdown?
if not, it makes you wonder what’s the point of that, since splashdowns really are better for onlookers than for riders.

The lack of viewing area is a real shame.
At the same time, it was always in a silly location, since it could only be located after going on the ride, or by going through the exit shop. So logistically it was a bit weird.
Still, that's not enough to have put a damper on it. Just wish it could have happened; overlooking the lake and getting the view of the ride would have been awesome.

They have kept the sign so i'd say it seems very possible 😂.
You can see it down Monks Walk by Rumba Rapids.

Where's the stupid post guy when you need him? Nowhere to be seen? I'll fill in...
Ding dong, the Express is dead
Which Express?
The Rocky Express.

Whilst the park have been pretty good at tarting up the park in recent years, I will hold my breath on Slammer's removal. They've said it before (internally, admittedly) and they've publicly said stuff that hasn't happened or been delayed (Tidal fire, Stealth SRQ, etc).
Obviously it makes sense to remove it and put a ride in its place, given the proximity to Hyperia, but we shall see.
As for Labyrinth, obviously it's been a prime spot for Fright Nights mazes. And of course, it's good to have a permanently set up maze, rather than having to re-build a maze each year. At the same time, it's not the largest space, and with mazes being upcharge, I'm not sure they can create a standard maze which is worth the £10 charge..
So it might be a prime spot for a different type of experience. Whether it's an alone experience, a non-maze experience or something else, I think that's the direction the park should go with that space, if they choose to use it for FN. I'm also not sure 4 upcharge indoor mazes is the way the park needs to go.

Any construction vlogs I can watch yet please? I reckon Jack knows all the info already but can't say.

Opening times for this season have been released on the website.
Overall I'd say its an improvement on last season, and its nice to see that Thorpe continue to have the best opening times out of the UK Merlin parks.
Less closed days than last season and more 7pm openings, however Oktoberfests seem to have been cut as no 7pm closes during Oktoberfest this year.
I've said it plenty of times before and I'll say it again, the only improvement I'd like to see is the return of 10pm closes for Fright Nights. The extra hour in the dark really makes a big difference.
I'd love to see the return of a 10pm closing event during summer but I doubt that'll happen due to demand unfortunately.
Also, the Sunday opening this year is strange? But I assume thats due to a buyout day on the Saturday.

Not really people pouring their heart out over it? It’s an end of year round up over the course of 2023 of different rebrands.
I’ve personally got used to it, but it’s still ultimately a crap logo. And that’s what this thread is dedicated to. The park hasn’t even opened its doors yet following the new rebrand!

If anyone's interested, I decided to have a bit of fun this evening and cobble together a rough Planet Coaster recreation of Hyperia to gauge a rough idea of the sort of forces and speeds we might be hitting through some of those elements.
I'm aware that the profiling and such aren't perfect, and as such, I'd take some of the exact g-forces with a pinch of salt (for instance, I don't think we'll be pulling 5.6G at the bottom of the dive loop...), but I built the large elements to roughly the same sort of height as they will be in real life (lift hill 236ft, Immelmann 157ft, large outerbank 164ft, dive loop 137ft, small outerbank 65ft, final airtime hill 48ft), so I think it should give a rough ballpark idea of speed in particular. I hope you like it!
Here's a POV and some cinematic shots of my creation:
And if you don't want to watch the video, here is the heatmap of vertical g-forces throughout the ride:
As well as the heatmap of speed throughout the ride:
And the stats of the ride:
And just for fun, here are some shots of the layout in the day and at night:
In terms of speed and forces; I think it paints a very promising picture! If my recreation is at all accurate, it suggests that we could be absolutely flying through the Immelmann, with the ride maintaining a speed of nearly 50mph even at the Immelmann's highest point! The other two large elements maintain speeds of 35-40mph at their highest points. In terms of trimming in the splashdown; I erred towards the more fierce end of the trimming spectrum and went for a deceleration rate of 4m/s2, which reduced the speed by 10-15mph. And even then, the outerbank and final airtime hill still appear very potent, with negative g-forces of nearly -1G still being registered in both elements! So overall, then, I reckon Hyperia could pack some brilliant g-forces throughout and hold its speed really well!
I hope you like my recreation! I have to say, this has also reminded me just how much fun getting stuck into a good Planet Coaster build is... I really need to get back into Planet Coaster, as I haven't really had too much time for it as of late and it shows. I haven't updated any of my ongoing park projects for the forum in nearly 2 years!
If you'd like to play with my recreation yourself, here's the Steam Workshop link where you can download it from: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=3113374891

Am I the only one that actually likes the fact it turns white at different points? Think it breaks it up from looking too basic personally. Guess a fade would have looked better though.

According to the top secret (?) Thorpe Park Passholder Facebook group it's on the cards for a bit of lovin' soon... exactly what that entails is anyone's guess but blimey does it need it. I don't think I've ever gotten even a single drop of water on me on that ride and the theming (or lack thereof) is abysmal.

There's noting "wrong" with it - I just find the logo a bit bland, but as simple as possible seems to be the modern way, though others are a bit more clever with their design.
Just feels like something is missing from it...

I have a feeling they are gonna remove reference to it being a resort. I’ve noticed it’s used a lot less…

coasterverse reacted to JoshC. in Thorpe Park 2023
I expect this is the idea. Slowly fading out the old and then bringing in the new.
Changing the whole name of the park, even if to Thorpe Island, would be a huge thing, and quite risky, for ultimately very little reward.
