Six Flags Fiesta Texas are getting an RMC Raptor (single rail) coaster.  It's started to do test runs:

It looks bloody quick and intense.  Ugly too.  But quick, intense, snappy, and perhaps a tiny bit terrifying.

It's weird, I guess Cedar Fair parks have gotten better since my last visit to one, but my memories of the two operators are one of relatively equal measure...

Neither terrible or fantastic, just... Adequate...

I don't think it'll be a typical buy out in the sense of Six Flags over Cedar Point, but more in the top end of management changing...

It could mean even longer videos with the CEO announcing the new stuff, and that I can get behind...

I really hope this doesn’t happen because this would be a disaster for Cedar Fair parks and a large chunk of the American park industry.

Ive seen and heard so many negative things about Six Flags parks, whether that be operations, maintenance, park reliability and the like.

Cedar Fair have their imperfections but I definitely think they are the better operator. Their parks look cleaner and better maintained although some of their rides and bag policies are questionable.

Would it though? They would almost have a monopoly in the states, I think investments would slow down, budget cuts made and they would focus on rebranding current attractions into their branding they use in most six flags parks, and then not really adding new stuff that often.

Thing is, combing the attendances of those two companies together, they would only have slightly more than Universal. And of course Disney is still a huge powerhouse in the states. To even keep those number up they'd have to invest regularly in most places.

I'm sure there'd be some changes in investment and it would have a knock on effect, but if they were to do it, I don't think they could treat it as if they've monopolised the market.

The main problem I have with this if it does happen is I find Six Flags parks to be utterly soulless, commercialised to high hell and corporate. Half the reason Cedar Point is so far ahead of every park I’ve visited is because it has charm to it. It has a rich history and even though it belongs to a chain, does not have an overly corperate feel to it whatsoever. Six Flags get their hands on it and that charm will possibly disappear in a flash. The other factor as to why Cedar Point is ran as well as it has been is down to the fact it is Cedar Fairs cashcow and the flagship park. Under a Six Flags ownership, it will only be playing second fiddle to Magic Mountain.

The other issue is that a takeover or even a merge would kill one of the greatest amusement park rivalries in the world right now and with that, Six Flags will have monopolised the thrill park industry in America and the states will be left in a relatively similar state to what the U.K is going through with M£rlin right now and that’s a lack of competition. Yes Disney and Universal are also a thing in America obviously, but Six Flags and Cedar Fair cater to an entirely different audience to those two chains. So any sort of deal between Cedar Fair and Six Flags could be a complete disaster for the industry especially in the states.
