David Walliams World - New for 2020

Recommended Posts

I don’t think it’ll be a massive redevelopment but at least they are finally sorting the area out as it needed it.

probably an upgrade to the cinema, existing attractions and maybe a kids flat if we are lucky.

“Family IP imminent”!

Honestly if Cloud Cuckoo gets any attention I'll be happy. It really needs some sort of addition after Toadstools and Charlie.. Even if its a IP I guess its better than letting the area rot.

Once upon a time, I thought I heard this area was possibly getting a mini Legoland retheme - Is that still a thing or was this dropped yonks ago?

It's certainly been talked about once upon a time, but I'm under the impression that idea was dropped sometime ago and this isn't what is happening here. :)

This has now been confirmed to be 'The World of David Walliams': https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/whats-on/alton-towers-world-david-walliams-3434435.amp

I'd expect a full Press release from the park today.

Actually a pretty good choice for an IP in my opinion. Relevant and contemporary, whilst also having enough sticking power to be a classic. Seems to suggest a brand new ride plus rethemes are coming.

Of course, there's questions as to whether the park should be relying on another IP and such. However, if they HAD to go for one, I can't think of any better choice.

Also, it's nice this has been officially confirmed, after Walliams accidentally leaked it himself 18 months ago...

Quote

"Would you like me to cut you in with the Gangsta Granny Alton Towers ride?" David jokes, Simon responding: "Are you serious? Why do you think you got that?"

Who remembers the last time time Thorpe Park had a new permanent addition that wasn't some second hand rides? It's getting a touch ridiculous now. DBGTROTD has evidently emptied their pockets and left them with their proverbial pants down.

To keep it on topic - good to see a dead area of the park having some investment at Towers.

There were definitely much worser I.Ps they could’ve chosen, which is why I am quite happy about this.

And as an added bonus it’s a British I.P and isn’t actually a dark modern horror theme for once.

I like this! Sure it is a IP, though this IP is relevant and hopefully will stand the test of time. I really am glad CCL is getting re-themed, its been in dire need for a while now.

Overall decent addition, if only Thorpe got something permanent or actually relevant like this..

Tell you what, as much as I sniff at the use of IP’s in theme parks, if this is executed well, I’ll welcome it. It would be perfect for families and will revitalise a dead corner of the park, which hopefully will mean the reopening of the theatre again if the plans show it.

Only thing that bothers me is if Alton weren’t so insistent on building The Alton “Black-walled” Dungeons for this year, that ride building and system would have been perfect for something like this, especially given the success and feedback of Gruffaloworks at Chessington.

Gangsta Granny seems to be the headline attraction of the area; presumably a new dark ride! At a guess the old Wobble World site or 4D cinema would be suitable locations..

This is exciting. I think Alton are starting the new decade on a positive with this. If its executed correctly it could be a good midway point between Cbeebies and Thirteen/Wickerman.

Its also good to see the most neglected area of the park seeing a new ride and area.

I’d probably guess the theatre and old Nickelodeon buildings combined and possibly extended. Not as noticeable during construction. Wobble world as a gift shop and cafe again then retheme of driving school and potentially a flat where toadstool used to be unless that makes a miraculous return

Am I the only one that thinks the name "Gangsta Granny: The Ride" feels a bit cheesy? Not Merlin bashing or anything but maybe because I'm used to having "The Ride" giving ominous connotations from the rides at Thorpe it feels a bit weird having "The Ride" put onto the end of a presumably children's attraction?

Good for the younger audience I guess, but aren't they both small buildings? Not going to be a very long ride surely?

Alton must be taking lessons from Europa in the 'cramming dark rides into small buildings' department lol

Wait till you try it before judging, this project has been kept relatively secretive who knows what could be built.

Besides, the ghost trains at WW are short but you still pay £6 for them.....

I certainly did not pay for them at WW. I stood with you whilst the rich lot went on! 🤑

Like I say anyway it will be good for the younger audience, not me whether short or not.

So they’ve now released a “behind the scenes” making of video which TTSP have captured this still. Not quite sure which building it is again but it looks like Wobble World to me? And it looks mighty short as others have already said

Too early to say whether this’ll be good or not, but at least the park are getting another dark ride/indoor attraction which they have somewhat needed now. I’m sure it will work though for the target market they are going for.
