Imagineer
Just seen on facebook that apparently MAP day is when they test out 'Code 100' which is the evacuation of the park when a dangerous animal escapes. Is there any truth to this? Sent from my SM-G361F using Tapatalk This used to happen on Friends and Family day which was, traditionally, the day before MAP day. And it isn't so much of an evacuation as "get everyone inside".
yeah
Cos everything on Facebook is true eh?That's why I'm asking. My Mum saw it, I highly doubted it, came here to check.Sent from my SM-G361F using Tapatalk Ryan
Mysterio Ka
The last couple years they've dressed someone up as Alex the Lion and have got people to go to the buildings that can be locked (like shuttered places). Whether or not it's been AP day I'm not sure, but it's certainly been the first public weekend.
TraX
Yes it's usually F&F day, so this isn't a surprise. Additionally, it's *usually* done right towards the end of the day. Just get inside basically.
Ryan
According to email from Merlin, Rattlesnake won't be open this weekend and they're hoping to get Bubbleworks/Tomb Blaster open for the afternoon.
Coaster
Starting the season in classic Chessington style... At least they've got the decency to let people know about the closures in advance though.
Mitchada04
However, we are sorry that Rattlesnake will not be ready for Celebration Weekend. We may be running the ride over the weekend but this will be for testing and staff training purposes only. We are finishing some last minute touches to Bubbleworks and Dragon’s Fury and we hope these will be open in the afternoon. Nothing about Tomb so you can assume that it's actually finished ready to go. Bubble and Fury to be open in the afternoon but on both days strikes me as staff testing or something in the morning. Rattlesnake was due to a delay in receiving essential parts. A typical start to the season would be having Vampire closed.
Ryan
Sorry for some bizarre reason I thought it said Tomb Blaster not Dragons fury!
Adam P
Bit of a shame there is no Penguins show until May half term, does drive people to Pandamonium.
Matt 236
Considering the state of last year (no bubbles, fury, vamps and more), this is a pretty okay open season ride offering. After all, Rattlesnake has suffered a fair bit recently. I guess, until busier season starts they don't want people distracted by Cheesy Dibbles and to watch the new one instead. Benin
Back in the day, anything closed for opening would be frowned upon, now it's deemed ok because the other year it was REALLY bad... Need to get out of this mindset of settling for the mediocre and poor performances... TPJames, TraX, Ian-S and 1 other
Ryan
Well its annual pass preview day so a full ride lineup shouldn't be expected. If it's the same on the proper opening day then yes that's bad. Han30
Benin
But just what are the parks 'previewing' to MAP holders? DBGT won't be open, Towers never do one and Chessie only has a show... Calling it a preview allows the parks to get away with not having a full line up, which is a poor show...
Zach
Isn't it just a training day for new staff?
Marc
Isn't it just a training day for new staff? Pretty much that yes.
Mattgwise
Oh dear. Lots of unhappy customers and negativity again for Chessington on social media. Seems to be long queues and lots of rides closed.
Ian-S
They'd be better off going after school next week, oops, I didn't say that, just ignore me, I'm talking bollocks, carry on.... I'll forever be amused by the lady last year at Thorpe demaning to be taken to the front of the queue because she was 'an Merlin annual passholder' and expected priority over 'Thorpe passholders' with her frantically waving her blue MAP around...... Adam P
Most of the rides have now opened, there are a few unhappy people around but staff have been great, the sun's come out and it's starting to come together!
Zach
Griffin's Galleon, Kobra, Rameses and Rattlesnake are currently closed.
Mark9
Oh dear. Lots of unhappy customers and negativity again for Chessington on social media. Seems to be long queues and lots of rides closed. Social Media is a source of misery. We'd all do ourselves so many favours by not reading too much into the complaints on official fb pages. Mattgwise
Good point! Doesn't help that most complain at the slightest of hiccups, yet when things go well they never bother saying anything! Ultimately many don't realise that the main purpose of AP days is to rehearse and use it as a training tool for new staff. Of course things won't be perfect. MachoMachine
Few rides down this morning but aside from that it's been good, nice to see effects working! Staff have been great also.
Coaster
To be fair if people have made the effort to visit and lots of rides are closed then they have a valid complaint.
Zach
Don't know if anyone noticed, Chessington has a new app which is actually pretty good. Haven't used it for very long, but it is very snappy and seems to have quite a bit of info.
