Posted June 21, 201312 yr comment_161500 The Discovery Channel documentary about John Wardley that was filmed last summer at Thorpe Park is being shown next month on the UK Quest Channel (Freeview channel 38). It is in the "World's Strangest Jobs" series. Provisional dates and times are 17, 19, 21 or 22 July, but this might change. It is the documentary that John mentioned in his autobiography, and features Emma Bassett, whose life was saved by a ride on Colossus!
June 21, 201312 yr comment_161501 Dates to save for the diary...is it a whole hour dedicated to Wardley and The Swarm or a segment?
June 21, 201312 yr comment_161511 Bout time. Last time John had his own documentary was in the 90's with 'Themes, Dreams and Scream Machines'
July 16, 201312 yr comment_163341 Just a reminder that the first epsoide of this series starts tomorrow at 9 on quest but not sure if its the thorpe one
July 16, 201312 yr comment_163346 Oooh I *think* I can get Quest on Freeview - if not I am gonna throw a tantrum and cry (or get my sister to record it for me). There just isn't enough coaster programs on the telly! Though I have seen a few programmes on a random channel about coasters a while back but I've forgotten the name of the show - it was America based though but was really interesting and I remember on one of the shows they were discussing launched coasters and showed how they work - tres interesting
July 16, 201312 yr comment_163352 I think I saw that a while back! Building the Biggest I think it was called. You should definitely be able to get Quest on Freeview. Channel 38. If you can't then just re-scan for channels

July 16, 201312 yr comment_163370 I'm intriuged by the girl whos life was saved by a ride on Colossus? Can only assume she got a headache from the roughness and went to hospital, at which point they found something wrong with her?
July 16, 201312 yr comment_163372 (btw this Youtube channel has loads of these programmes if you're interested ) And there goes my days off!
July 16, 201312 yr comment_163373 According to this article, it says that it was Nemesis Inferno that was the life saver - although take into consideration it IS the Daily Mail! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2155276/Student-20-hours-death-developing-huge-brain-tumour-survives-thanks-ROLLERCOASTER-RIDE.html
July 16, 201312 yr comment_163376 Thanks for the Youtube channel I'm subbed to it now going to watch this on my days off work.
July 17, 201312 yr comment_163503 I think 'his section' has finished now. It was a nice little feature actually. Gave a couple of little snippets of when Swarm achieves certain Gs, which is fun for the geeks amongst us. Other than that, just talked about how there's a focus on G forces and how they help make roller coasters...roller coasters. They gave Wardley the usual portrayal as some guy who gets his kicks from making people scream and that. Noticed that some of the shots of Swarm were flipped for seemingly no reason though? One little problem though...they called Colossus, the ride which saved Bassett's life, Nemesis. D'oh!
July 17, 201312 yr comment_163506 Gutted I missed this as I came home late from work. Does anyone know where I can catch up and re-watch the program, both on tv & online?
July 17, 201312 yr Author comment_163513 Damn, missed it all about thorpe park, only saw abit at the end It's repeated on Friday at 8pm, Sunday at 8pm and Monday at 10pm
July 17, 201312 yr comment_163517 Was a decent little feature, made the park look nice. It's a long time since the Alton and Pleasure Beach documentary which I remember being popular at the time, shame we so little of this stuff on the TV.
