Scarefest

TBH I might just try "pretend" to look older, I am very tall, hopefully they don't ask for ID.

Who the hell carries ID at a blimming theme park!

It's probably a marketing thing, especially if they are going to have the Smiler open as suspected, they are going to get some **** from the fear porn obsessed media, so they have answers to all the accusations that will no doubt be slung in their direction.

If you have not had to give your dob for your hotel booking, am not a MAP holder, are tall and look older than you are, then nobody will know your true age - there's always a point where the world has to stop making decisions for other people and let people be responsible for their actions, so if you want to go into the maze, you do so.

I agree with the age 'recommendations' (I certainly wouldn't take a 8 and 10 year old into a maze like a friend is planning to) but if someone wants to ignore that recommendation, it's not really the parks fault if they get scared ****less as a result.

Has the park even confirmed this? A quick look at the website seems to give no indication of an age limit right up to the point tickets are booked. There is a specific 'terms and conditions' section for scarefest and all that mentions is Lockdown being over 18 and strictly enforced, which is fair enough for what it is and the numbers involved, but nothing for the general mazes which would be unmanageable.

I don't believe it would be true. Giving a suggested age is sensible, having an enforced limit is madness. It would actually open them up to criticism as when someone underage gets in, as they inevitably will, and goes of to the Mirror with their tale of horror it will be the parks fault, rather than the persons fault if it is just a guide age.

Alton Towers have confirmed it on their Twitter.

Well selling the tickets without it on their terms and conditions should land them in a spot of bother then. Poorly planned and marketed, like many things they do. Stupid stupid Merlin/Towers/whoever.

I agree that changing the age restriction with a little over 2 weeks until Scarefest starts is very poor, however they won't have done it without a good reason.

They have also said that anyone under the age of 15 who has already bought maze tickets will be able to get a full refund from the Resort Box Office.

For me a age restriction should be enforced, but like 12 and older can enter the mazes.

Anyway called guest services, and they said it will be fine. hopefully just a marketing scam, like the Th13teen age limit thingy.

Really annoyed that the age limit has been moved up to 15! I don't get that personally. Alton have said on their FB that it's due to its horror content, the fact that the actors can touch you and because it's more like a 15 rated horror movie. Thorpe Parks Fright Nights is a 13+ and you can be split up, the actors will touch you and they are based on 18 rated horror films! I hope that it's like the th13teen age limit thing (as said above) cos I was really looking forward to trying out these mazes

Some photos from around the park
The speakers are still outside the new construction, which seems a bit odd But if you notice it looks like there is dividing wall that goes between the two speakers.
P1190168.JPG
Not much going on inside the first oustide section apart from black walls.
P1190171.JPG
But there was some construction happening in the circle of containers.
P1190173.JPG
I wonder what the wire mesh is for?
P1190174.JPG
I am still not sure where molly crow is going to go But string lighting posts have been put up on the way to the Tea House. I wandered down to look and peaked through the window. Not much happening in there. Maybe molly will be in the towers then.

SO I wandered to The old Zombie scare zone to see if anything was afoot there. The answer is no. Nothing has changed at all.
P1190185.JPG
There was though work going on in Her Ladyships Garden.

Zoomed out you can see what they are doing:

Interesting giving it such a high rating - wonder if it's solely because "YOU WILL BE MADE TO WEAR A HOOD SO IT IS SCARY" or if it's something more.  I'm curious to find out what End Games will be rated, as I felt like that would be the more 'extreme' of the two.

On a complete off topic note, I'm surprised Thorpe never gave one of their mazes an 'Unrated' rating (or even advertised Face it Alone like that).  It would have suited the film theme perfectly, and would be a great way to get people talking.

lets be real though, none of the thorpe mazes (except if they're during face it alone) are extreme enough (compared to something like sub species, from the early reviews at least) to recieve an "unrated' rating this year. I have a feeling next year they'll try to one-up towers, who seem to have introduced 2 quite extreme mazes this year, in terms of scares and extremity...thorpe has always been the more "extreme" park overall so it wouldn't suprise me. I'm quite dissapointed this year at how tame and normal the big top seems, I was expecting something a little different and more extreme from the marketing. that's just me though

The most frustrating thing about this for me is that four years ago Thorpe produced Experiment 10, which was without question one of the most extreme horror mazes in the UK.

Fast forward to 2015 and you have black curtains and a theme which has been done hundreds of thousands of times already (unlike E10 which had a unique theme).

It is a crying shame that Thorpe removed The Asylum - whilst some people on here didn't rate it, it was a solid maze and easily the most popular amongst the public reaction-wise, as well as being a good queue shifter in comparison to the current mazes (although they do seem better at batching them this year).

As for Scarefest, I did enjoy TOTT a few years ago and The Sanctuary was good, but a blindfolded maze doesn't really appeal to me as there is nothing to see.
