The thing is the park probably are working on it, just not visibly. The ride's shut and whilst it's a pain, everyone just needs to be patient and see what they do with this. If it's in the same state in 2 years time then yes you can start to worry :P

I'm not sure why it seems to have always been a thing with Thorpe and Chessington where they offer very little transparency as to what is going on. They should just be honest and say "Yeah, it's knackered, would cost £50,000 to fix it up so we're going to get some plans in to demolish it and build a new coaster" which I'd say is the most likely scenario at the moment.

True, but Loggers Leap should have remained open throughout this process. Unless, as I am guessing, the cost of keeping it in a state where it is able to run was too much, so they are just letting it rot whilst making up other plans for the area.

I agree in an ideal world it would be - but let's say for arguments sake it would cost x amount to keep it open and they had plans to remove it within 5 years then it makes sense why they don't spend on it - there are obviously reasons behind its closure but as you say we don't know them!

If loggers leap is removed and a new ride opens in its place, it has then been redeveloped.

This is not rollercoaster tycoon, you can right click on loggers leap, delete it and place a new ride in its place over night, ideas need to be thought up, plans drawn up this is before they even apply for any permission needed but is all part of a re-development process.

It hasn't been redeveloped or rennovated throughout 2016, which was the official line from Thorpe.

I'm not sure why you're bringing up RCT3, it's obvious to me that Loggers can't open for whatever reason, what I'm getting at is that Thorpe's handling of the situation is absolutely atrocious.  Telling people it's being rennovated throughout 2016, which whilst not directly stating it gives the impression that it will reopen in 2017; and when combined with the phrase "we hope for it to make a splash back in 2017" is blatantly misleading people within the boundaries of not quite stating it as fact.

I think it's wrong to make excuses for the fact that it's "just" social media, they are representing Thorpe and as such any information given to people should be accurate.  If they don't know, then they should be honest and say that the ride is "closed."

Regarding the ride itself, any park worth its salt would realise it was coming towards the end of its working life, therefore plans for whatever (refurbishment, replacement, or anything else) would be drawn up well before the ride is in a state where it can't open.

If this was refurbishment of the ride then I would be forgiving of it being closed during some of the season, if there was work going on!  Take Valhalla for example, the entire facade was replaced over winter 2011/12 which then ran into the season until May, but there was work constantly going on and then it reopened when it was ready.  Another example is the log flume at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach where large portions of the trough were replaced this year, which can't be an easy task; it was closed until summer but work was going in the winter before that and throughout the season up until summer.

I don't pretend to know why Loggers Leap is closed, and I don't doubt that there is a good reason, but it's the combination of the awful handling of the closure and the fact that it's going to be closed for at least two seasons (and subsequent closed seasons) with absolutely nothing happening to it.

To add insult to injury, they're STILL saying things like this;

Apart from insult to injury take it as positives - until they announce it's being removed then we can only assume it will reopen at some point in the future.

Who knows what will happen - hopefully something concrete is announced soon either way!

I see what you mean, but frankly I don't want to look forward to it reopening to then be let down, as they've already shown that their communications on social media are misleading/not accurate;

How do you honestly know that absolutely nothing is going on with Loggers Leap? Enlighten us all, please do, you clearly have inside knowledge.

Whatever the condition of the ride, I think this situation is emblematic of the way Merlin's UK parks are being run at the moment. They don't have the commitment to say "We have set the ride aside for redevelopment for X amount of time, so that it may open at the precise date of Y", nor "We won't be reopening the ride, since we have deemed it unfeasible for redevelopment". Whether or not "behind-the scenes" work has been done on it, the fact is that we're almost a year later and we still have no idea whether it will reopen, let alone any indication of a reopening date. The fact is that this project has basically been stagnant for a year, much like the "redevelopments" across the other parks.

Frankly I'm tired of these parks being run in such a haphazard way, and once the next screw-up like this happens at Alton Towers (which, to my displeasure, is very likely), they won't be getting any more of my money until they turn their attitude around and bring some damn professionalism to the table. In the meantime, I have plenty of other great and enthusiastically-run UK parks to enjoy and discover.

And how long ago were those pictures taken? How do you know work hasn't been done on the rest of it?

Who even has time to care about Loggers Leap, Goldberg beat Brock Lesnar in under 2 minutes lmao

When the main event is nearly an hour shorter than the Survivor Series match you have a problem imo

Those pictures were taken in September, the ride looked the same during Fright Nights (it was visible from the queueline of Platform 15).

The rest of the ride was visible from Platform 15 during daytime walkthroughs, and it is in the same condition as the sections in the photos.

And what about behind the scenes? They could have postponed it while they make a decision.

By behind the scenes I'm assuming you mean in the station, seeing as the rest of the ride was visible from P15?

The possibility of a decision having not been made yet has already been said (more or less).

No, by behind the scenes I mean at Merlin.

I can assure you, nothing has been done to the surrounding area of LL for the entire 2016 season, After going on BTS of Platform 15 on the 29th October, there was literally no change, apart from a bear in the trough.

The way Merlin are handling the situation is frankly embarrassing, it feels as if nobody there knows what's going on with it which is what is winding everyone up. Considering they've had a whole year to look over the ride and make there decision its pretty piss poor and highlights there lack of professionalism that there sending out mixed messages in tweets really isn't helping the situation.

I will be gutted if the ride has been removed even if they plan to replace it with a roller coaster in the future, I don't want a roller coaster I want a log flume/water attraction as a like for like replacement if you will. Without it they only have Tidal wave as I would rather have a coffee enema than ride storm dirge.

comment_245368

Social and media departments wont be in the loop as much as people always credit them for, they might not even be experienced with the kinds of decisions theme parks make or the way Merlin likes to flip flop. People inside Chessington didnt even know their "New ride for 2016" was cancelled at first. Then of course the "Dragon River refurbishment" announcements, "Hex are Charlie are currently being refurbished" situations at Alton Towers.

Also, we'd know for sure if renovation was being carried out on Loggers because the maintenance it needs is all stuff out in eyeshot like replenishing the building, fixing the troughs and drop, etc. They havnt been secretly taking things away in the night so that nobody notices.

What you see isn't what you get with a company like this, anything could happen really.  We know guests are badly affected by this and Loggers' loss with no replacement would really detract from the park's offering. But the only certain way to get their system to take notice is if visitor numbers and their shoddy iPad satisfaction stats fall off.

I'm really disappointed in how they are treating this I think the best thing for Thorpe to do is to announce the permanent  closure and then just remove it and construct the GCI wooden coaster

I'm not sure where people are getting the idea of this GCI Woodie from?

It hasn't been confirmed, nor hinted at and there are certainly no planning applications around, Just because Towers have replaced their Log Flume with a Wooden Coaster, doesn't mean Thorpe will.

With the state that LL is in right now, It's probably wise to remove it despite the backlash they may recieve, I know a lot of the GP were asking about it throughout the year so it does still peak the publics interest despite it being SBNO.
