May 8, 201213 yr comment_137293 Maybe they weren't in their right mind? Lucky nothing worse happened... Very, very lucky...
May 11, 201213 yr comment_137379 Ooh er that pic! That pic is also on this article, and it also says that he was arrested for "public nuisance". Good! http://riderater.co.uk/?p=1758
October 23, 201212 yr comment_143055 http://www.altontowers.com/events/half-term/ Alton Towers have announced some details about next year's February half term event. Much like Chessie did over the some, Alton host the Moshi Monsters during the half term. The ride line up is also up, which includes: Air Nemesis Blade Sonic Spinball Duel Hex Runaway Mine Train Ice Age 4D Sharkbait Reef Along with many of the rides for younger children. No Oblivion or any X-Sector rides this time a round, which isn't surprising really, as I assume the whole area will be shut off to be kept a secret as much as possible / to allow for any spruce ups to the area to happen (if they happen, of course..). Surprised in a way Sub Terra isn't there though; I'd have thought all the dark rides would be included during the half term.
October 23, 201212 yr comment_143056 Strange how no nemesis sub terra, it's an indoor dark ride, surely useful for half term? When its cold
October 23, 201212 yr comment_143057 Can understand why no X Sector obviously but abit disappointing they've not added to the line up to make up for the loss of attractions. Maybe the list will be updated closer to the date
October 23, 201212 yr comment_143058 No Sub Terra or Tea Cups is a big downer really... Dark Forest is never open early though, maybe the Hydraulics on the two attractions do not like the cold weather... Not a surprise that X Sector will not be open though...
October 23, 201212 yr comment_143059 Dark Forest is never open early though, maybe the Hydraulics on the two attractions do not like the cold weather... Not a surprise that X Sector will not be open though... I wondered if this could be related, but then Stealth was one of the few rides thorpe actually managed to get working in February
October 23, 201212 yr comment_143068 Rides working at Thorpe in February? Arguable... But considering the state of Thorpe during their Half Term times, it's too difficult to judge... The different temperatures that affect the two parks (due to location, etc) will effect each a lot differently, it's a strange one, although I'd imagine if it was really cold Thirteen and Rita would be much more likely to stall...
October 24, 201212 yr comment_143073 I'd imagine running costs is a large contributing factor to rides opening or not during feb as well as mechanics.
November 4, 201212 yr comment_143672 Rumours abound that there is some sort of fire in the actual towers. Oh dear!
November 4, 201212 yr comment_143673 Update from TST: UPDATE: fire is believed to be minor on the roof of the towers near wobble world, fire brigade are on site but we currently don't believe there has been significant damage.
November 5, 201212 yr comment_143682 And there was me thinking it would be one of the skyride stations.
January 11, 201312 yr comment_147709 According to TowersStreet, The Sanctuary will be making a comeback for the 2013 season. Also, Oblivion will receive a much needed repaint and some TLC. Excellent news!
March 31, 201312 yr comment_155245 Some reminders on Facebook today about the past Chocolate Towers event. I never went during it, but it looked wicked, and being Easter now, would like to see this return as an annual event.
June 14, 201312 yr comment_160811 Apparently sayings have now emerged that Oblivion's lift hill chain snapped yesterday and may have a lengthily time closed. Seems to be going heads up for towers ATM especially with all the Smiler problems recently.
June 14, 201312 yr comment_160814 Officially from Theme Park Logic: Breaking News: Oblivion could be due for a lengthy time closed due to the lift hill chain snapping yesterday at 10:15am and from Towers Times: Alton Towers have confirmed on their website that The Smiler is still unavailable. On the positive side of things however, parts of the Towers ruins are now open for guests to explore!
June 14, 201312 yr comment_160843 The lift chain did not snap. The gearbox went. It'll probably be open tomorrow, as all their efforts were on opening smiler whilst awaiting the part.
June 15, 201312 yr comment_160858 Since when did chains snap? That doesn't sound like theme park "logic" to me. Must be more complex than that. Oblivion was out of action for a while last year as well, also because of a lift hill problem... Lift chains can and do snap... Enough wear on them after constant operation will cause potential weakening of the material, like in any situation... Moreso with the chains because they are constantly changing speeds as well... Shock absorption could be a major culprit in some cases if the ride runs onto the lift like Inferno... Not too regular an incident, but I've seen it happen mid season...
June 15, 201312 yr comment_160903 We know what happened last time something snapped... "Oblivion- now with scaffolding!"
June 20, 201312 yr comment_161447 Officially posted by towers street's facebook page Alton Towers have confirmed to us that last year's new maze The Sanctuary and Terror of the Towers will return at Scarefest. To allow for construction of the mazes, The Towers will close to the public on 11th August, with the chapel remaining open throughout.
